Improvement?
editWould it be an improvement if I added a couple of columns that displayed engine sizes and number of cylinders? Would it also be an improvement if the list included vehicles that are well reported to have been made though not yet covered by Wikipedia? Eddaido (talk) 09:36, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'm undecided about the engine details at present but I'm certainly all for adding any models that we can reference as having been marketed as Austins, regardless of their Wikipedia article status. GTHO (talk) 10:26, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- Tell me, why would you not want the engine details. Eddaido (talk) 11:04, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- I think it's more information than is needed in a "List of". Best keep it for the actual model pages. GTHO (talk) 09:23, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

- Any cars missing should be added to the list whether or not there are articles. It might encourage them being written. Looking at a few of the other Lists of Cars there does not seem to be any fixed ideas of either format or content. Some are purely alphabetical listings with name and date and others have engine sizes, dimensions and model codes. I am a bit undecided about what should be added but think that engine size and cylinders would not overburden the existing format so give it a go. Malcolma (talk) 10:13, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
Austin Marina engines
editDo we have any proof that all of the six engines listed were actually offered in "Austin Marinas". The 2262 six powered Marina for example was developed in Australia and was only ever sold in that country as a Leyland Marina. GTHO (talk) 23:37, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'd have thought that at that time Austin belonged to Leyland and so there is no difference? What do you think? Eddaido (talk) 13:20, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- UK Marinas were quite different from Australian Marinas in terms of engines. UK Models used 1275, 1798, 1695 & 1489 units, the latter being a diesel. Australian Marinas used 1485 & 1748 engines and also a 2262 six. I don't believe that the export Austin Marinas would have used Australian engines, but regardless of this if we cant verify which engines they did use then how can we list them? GTHO (talk) 10:59, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- I've spent 20 minutes thinking about this and I am not yet sure I properly understand the problem so will sleep on it but will be busy elsewhere first thing tomorrow. Cheers, Eddaido (talk) 12:24, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- I have just assumed if it is an Austin made by the group anywhere in the world then it fits but I do realise I was not around when the parameters for this list were fixed. Are those really totally different engine sizes so near others? I mean 1485/1489 and 1748/1798. Cheers, Eddaido (talk) 12:37, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- The 1485 was an OHC "E-Series" petrol engine used in the Australian Morris/Leyland Marina and the 1489 was a pushrod diesel available in the UK Morris Marina. The 1748 was a an OHC "E-Series" petrol engine used in the Australian Morris/Leyland Marina and the 1798 was a pushrod "B-Series" petrol engine used in the UK Morris Marina. GTHO (talk) 07:37, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, how was I to know? I see they are both listed under E-series for Austins. Anyway what do you think of my response to your question? Eddaido (talk) 08:32, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- I think that a "List of Austin motor cars" should only includes models that were actually marketed as Austins and should only include engine displacement and other details that were actually relevant to those models when sold as Austins. How the manufacturer (including BMC, British Leyland etc) packaged the same model under other make names is not relevant to this list. GTHO (talk) 22:42, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi GTHO. I found the list as it was to be no use to me. I've fixed it and over the last few days have referred to it constantly (maybe 25 times a day?) so I'm happy with the list. I did comment it suffered from omissions, I've noted some. After that why don't you take up this discussion with someone else because I've lost track of your (to me mysterious) goalposts and I don't mind that I have and I don't mind about the A105VP and I do not comprehend your current trouble you'd need to explain more carefully and fully. I don't think I agree with the statements you make but I now feel that if I went to discuss them with you your target(s) would just change! Cheers, Eddaido (talk) 02:17, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- My target remains the same as it was when I first began this thread, i.e. to ensure that only engines that were available in the "Austin Marina" are listed against the "Austin Marina". GTHO (talk) 01:29, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Anyway I like that you seem to be being rigorous with the rest of the entries. Eddaido (talk) 13:08, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
