Article title

edit

Despite the assertion of User:Gentgeen in their edit of 18 Sep 06 ("moved AFL umpires to List of Australian rules football umpires: better title"), I think that the title is misleading.

A List of Australian rules football umpires even of the major Leagues would be far more extensive than the current list, and the intro says that it is in fact a "list of umpires in the Australian Football League". To be more precise, what is listed in this article is actually a list of VFL/AFL umpires. Personally I have no intention in the immediate future of adding a list of SANFL umpires to the current (large) list :) , nor, I suspect, will anyone be adding a list of WAFL or TFL umpires. Perhaps renaming the article to List of Australian Football League umpires or moving it (back) to AFL umpires may be more appropriate?

p.s. Why is the Complete List sorted by first name? Pudgey 11:35, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

TBD

edit

At the moment, entry number 20 of the 2006 list is TBD. It seems unlikely that they haven't worked out his name yet, if they let him umpire last year! COuld we at least put his nickname in if we haven't determined his real name? --Scott Davis Talk 08:26, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually in 2006 it appears that number 20 was not used - at least according the umpires themselves! AFLUA Shirt numbers 2006
Maybe we should put a non-linked TBD or similar in there? Edit: done. Pudgey 08:52, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

References

edit

Some secondary references would aid in asserting the notability of this group of people. It would also help (if it could be sourced) if their first run at the top level and their final appearance could be added to the list (for those who have retired).

A sortable table header would also help I think. 01:12, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Deletion

edit

I tried and failed miserably to add this page to discussion of proposal to delete for the second time. Perhaps someone with more editing experience can have a go. The article has sections that are 5 years out of date, long lists of umpires (boundary/goal) with no data that seem to serve no purpose, has retired umpires on the current list and current umpires not listed at all. A list like this needs to be maintained regularly or deleted. FlatOut 07:17, 15 April 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flatoitlikealizarddrinking (talkcontribs)

Removed directory of referees

edit

This page is/was in very bad shape. The entire directory of every single referee was extremely unwieldy and it violated what Wikipedia is not. So I removed it. There is absolutely no encyclopedic content to it. These people are marginally notable, so it can't be used to find articles. Also, it's not verifiable, especially since one of the entries was a single last name of "Smith". It was also ~7 years out of date, and with a list that extreme, it's next to impossible to keep it updated. Instead, there should be a renewed focus on the lists that are still there. The current list only has 1/3 of the referees, so that needs to remain up to date. Otherwise, this could hit WP:AFD. Tavix |  Talk  07:35, 27 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
