Guideline for additions
edit- Please insert names in alphabetical order
- Please use superscripts for individuals with duplicated names
- Please use names for listing, rather than titles; "Benjamin" rather than "King Benjamin". But...
- Feel free to enter alternate identifications but please reference them to the common name. For example:
- King Benjamin (see Benjamin).
- Add enough information to uniquely identify the character but save most information for articles.
- If the individual or group doesn't need a separate article but does deserve some mention please add them to Various Book of Mormon people.
- Don't add people merely mentioned in the Book of Mormon. For example, don't add Moses.
- Exception: Add Hebrew prophets mentioned in the Book of Mormon but not found elsewhere, such as Zenock.
Table??
editThese articles are also lists of BofM folk -- merge?? common format??
Would a table such as the format below be of any use? What columns would be best for reader reference? Would we want chapter and verse for source/reference material? Distinction between Nephite and Lamanite? The example below is only a suggestion. WBardwin 03:10, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Name | Date | Description | BofM Source
Nephi | circa 600 BCE | son of Lehi | I and II Nephi
Jacob | circa 590 BCE | son of Lehi | Jacob
- My two cents: I think we can ultimately merge the list of BofM prophets and BofM rulers into this list, but perhaps with markers (special font, color, char?) to indicate which are prophets and/or rulers. On the other hand I don't think we should rush into it -- I'd rather wait for this list to settle into a preferred format and content.
- I don't have any objection, per se, to a table format BUT at the moment I see it as more trouble than it's worth. Part of the problem is the relative inflexibility of a table -- some entries might need different information than we build into the table. It seems to me that an alphabetic TOC would be helpful though. I just don't know how to do that.
- The one big thing I'd like to add to the current listings is a spread of dates rather than the "circa" date (which is taken from the LDS index). But that will take more time than I've got at the moment.
- Finally, I'd like to see a Book of Mormon chronology article. There would be a lot of shared content with this list but in chronological rather than alphabetical order.--andersonpd 18:25, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Formatting
editI suggest the following --
- Prophets -- bold font
- Rulers -- italic font
- Prophet Rulers -- bold italic font
- BofM writers -- underline
Mission Accomplished!
editI think I've got all the entries in place. Some are still missing dates, etc.
I split off the groups to a separate article since this one was so big.

Merge Proposal
editI am copying our merger discussion from the page Persons in the Book of Mormon to this page, since the other talk page will be archived. I just want to be clear what was happening without people having to follow the archive links to figure it out. --Descartes1979 (talk) 07:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

I propose we merge this article with List of Book of Mormon people. The two articles are awfully redundant.
- Merge --Descartes1979 (talk) 03:51, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Certainly; these are redundant. Merge the other into this one, or move them both to List of persons in the Book of Mormon. If the list is too long, make List of persons in the Book of Mormon (A-M) and List of persons in the Book of Mormon (N-Z) and make the original a disambiguation page. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 21:27, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Merge OneWeirdDude (talk) 00:31, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Merge agreed, redundant articles are a nuisance and only create difficulty for readers. --Storm Rider (talk) 01:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Merge I didn't even realize that there were 2 lists. At a glance, they look like they overlap. Leon7 (talk) 02:39, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Merge — I don't have a preference of one article name over the other. Keep as much of the information from Persons in the Book of Mormon as possible. — Val42 (talk) 05:23, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like the vote is pretty unanimous - so I will move forward with the merge rather than waiting for any other discussion. The merge itself will be a little tricky, so I will work on it piecemeal over the next few days. --Descartes1979 (talk) 06:10, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Merging Succession Boxes
editThere were 5 people that I could not easily merge from Persons in the Book of Mormon because of the succession boxes associated with them. Please comment on how we should include the boxes (if at all). They are given below for preservation (since we are changing Persons in the Book of Mormon to a redirect. --Descartes1979 (talk) 06:46, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

editArticle name
editIt may be too late now, but I would have preferred that the name of the merged article contain the word "persons" rather than "people." I notice that there are no groups of people included in this article; should it? Leon7 (talk) 15:50, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Its never too late - can you elaborate why "persons" is preferable over "people"? Also, I believe at the end of the article there is a link to List of Book of Mormon groups. --Descartes1979 (talk) 16:09, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Individual Articles for each Book of Mormon person? (The Splittist in me speaking)
editNow that we have combined the two lists, I think we could use an article for each of the people in the list. This would solve the problem of the succession boxes above. This is obviously from a splittist philosophy, and maybe a mergist will come along and disagree. --Descartes1979 (talk) 21:42, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
List of Bible people mentioned in Book of Mormon
editA list of People in the Bible, who are mentioned in the book of Mormon would be helpful. 74.75.91.82 (talk) 20:10, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Jared 2 and Jared 3 are the same character
editHi, I'm confused why there are Jared 2 and Jared 3 as two entries, but even more confused at the different relations to them listed. Ether 6:14 clearly states "And Jared had four sons; and they were called Jacom, and Gilgah, and Mahah, and Orihah." Of these names, the Brother of Jared belongs to Jared 2, and Jacom is listed as the Son of Jared 2, but Mahah is listed as the Son of Jared 3, and Gilgah is listed merely as "an early Jaredite" without any relation, likewise, Orihah is listed as the first Jaredite King and yet his father is Jared3 who is listed as.. a Jaredite King. I don't want to untangle this mess myself if there's a reason it is the way it is. But, this needs to be either cleaned up or addressed as to why its both confusing and contradictory (in the case of the "first king") 216.110.215.70 (talk) 01:51, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- If I'm reading correctly, Jared3 is son of Omer, and father of Esrom and Coriantumr3 (Ether 8:4). Jared2 (Ether 6:14) is father of Jacom, Gilgah, et al. So two separate Jareds. DesignatedGrammarian (talk) 11:12, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
Amaron and Chemish omitted
editAbinadom is listed as the Son of Chemish, but Chemish is omitted, in spite of "writing" all of Omni 1:9 as an autograph. Amaron is also omitted, "author" of Omni 1:4-8. 216.110.215.70 (talk) 05:40, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Nimrod from Ether 7:22 is missing

Cohor 1 and 2 are the same character
editCohor 1 and 2 are the same character (brother of Noah, Ether 7:15), and only Cohor 3 is different (Ether 7:22.) Should this be noted somehow? 216.110.215.70 (talk) 20:23, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- I believe Cohor2 is the nephew of Noah, while Cohor1 is the brother of Noah. The entry as written is confusing. DesignatedGrammarian (talk) 10:51, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

editAmulon isn't listed. See Mosiah 23:32. 216.110.215.70 (talk) 11:21, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
