Barclays

According to Venn, the C Barclay who rowed in 1886 and 1887 was Cameron Barclay. His brother C T Barclay only rowed in 1887. There was no F Barclay at Cambridge, so presumably the F Barclay should be CT (winner of goblets) and the other one just C. Motmit (talk) 18:44, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, that's interesting. When I looked at Woodgate, I wasn't even thinking of Cameron, because I had just come from Charles Theodore Barclay, which states that CT rowed in 1886 and 1887. But as you say, that is not consistent with Venn. Your suggestion that F should be CT sounds likely, but do we have any other reference to support this? – Wdchk (talk) 19:27, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

The UBR histories by Richard Burnell and Chrid Dodd each have C Barclay at 7 in the 1886 and 1887 crews, and C T Barclay at 2 in 1887. - David Biddulph (talk) 21:36, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I have added the Burnell and Dodd books as references. I don't have the actual books, so what I know about them is taken from Google Books. Feel free to sanity check me. Presidents

There seems to be some confusion with those marked as President in the list. For example, Brian Lloyd was President for the 1951 race, but is shown as 1950, and James Crowden was shown as 1951 but was President for 1952. I haven't yet found a full authoritative list, nor have I yet found when the erroneous information was inserted, nor for which years the errors apply. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:02, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

It appears that the asterisks for presidents were added in January this year by Special:Contributions/46.253.38.71, with no edit summary or indication of source. I have now checked & corrected the range of years covered by the IP's edits (including correcting one year's individual race page). The list is in Burnell's book. how many men are eight?

I don't claim to know the first thing about rowing but it seems odd that there are ten names in the crew for 1862. do you think having that extra man in the boat might explain why they lost? Cottonshirtτ 09:31, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
