editI disagree with designating the position as being "vacant" for periods of time. The position is not created by statute. In other words, there is not legal requirement for there to be a Deputy Prime Minister. When there was no Deputy Prime Minister it was because the position did not exist, not because it was vacant. Why didn't he just appoint a Deputy PM? Gets some under-represented region some representation. Not like the Deputy PM really does anything anyway. Makes things so much easier. Colipon+(T) 00:29, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
might make things earlier for wikipedia users, but the whole point of the Reform Party was that there should be no hierarchy. Look at it this way, if Martin had kicked the bucket, McLellan would have just taken over, likely just as an interm though. If Harper kicks the bucket, the entire Caucus would have to find a replacement, as opposed to just sticking the last person appointed as DPM into the position Pellaken 12:26, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
