editThe new table does not allow for making note of EMI Columbia artists such as Frank Ifield. Can it be altered to indicate performers on EMI's Columbia label?
Still waiting for the table to indicate which artists recorded for EMI's Columbia label. Steelbeard1 23:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Merge proposal
editWe have two redundant articles, List of Columbia Records artists and Columbia Records artists. The first one is in a table format and the other is a straight list. They should be combined. Which article and which format should prevail? I perfer the former with the table format. Steelbeard1 20:25, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. Merge the two. Let the List of Columbia Records artists version (with the tables) prevail. The table format looks more professional. Dogru144 22:12, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Hint: If you are intimated against editing with the table format, simply cut and paste existing performers from the table, and just replace the pertinent information, such as name and dates. Dogru144 22:12, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I support this merger as well. A worthy list. I'll try to move a few individuals myself as time permits. (Mind meal 22:40, 30 July 2007 (UTC))
Alphabetical order
editJust to throw a curve ball in here: on what alphabetical basis do we include our entries? Should Barry Manilow be under 'M' or 'B', and what about Chuck D? I would propose that they be listed in order as they would appear in wikipedia except possibly for the "the"s, thus there will at least be some uniformity - the added advantage is that it will prevent an entry of 'Nas (rapper)' from reappearing under 'Nasir "Nas" Jones'.
Also, should we break up the table, at least into sections, so that it can be navigated more easily from the TOC? Ohconfucius 06:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Broken tables
editAs of the time of writing this, the tables are broken. I'm not too great with table code, can someone help fix it? --William Graham talk 23:26, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Splitting this article into List of Columbia Records artists and Columbia Graphophone Company (EMI) artists
editThe easy way to split this article is to spin off the artists who recorded for EMI's Columbia Graphophone Company into a separate article. What do you think? Steelbeard1 (talk) 22:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Splitting the table into a list
editI'm planning to make this into just a raw list, just like all the other "List of ______ Records artists" pages. This way, it's much easier to edit. Does anyone object to that? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 21:59, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- That's fine with me. Steelbeard1 (talk) 22:30, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Too many acts without Wikipedia articles.
editI just cut two acts not supported by articles about them in Wikipedia. I also fixed the Ray Bryant link. Unless there is are articles about the acts in Wikipedia, I think the dead link acts should be deleted from this article. Steelbeard1 (talk) 23:51, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
I just deleted all the dead links. The next thing to do is note EMI/Columbia artists so that it would be easier to create a separate List of Columbia Graphophone Company artists article. Steelbeard1 (talk) 16:58, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
- I know this is an old edit, but I was wondering if deleting artists without pages was a good decision. My thought was a paper based encyclopedia would not necessarily include only folks that had a corresponding article in this kind of situation. Folks may be coming to this article for a complete list, not just for links to other articles here in Wikipedia. No worries either way. Thoughts?THX1136 (talk) 21:27, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
Creating separate article for Columbia/EMI artists
editI've added additional EMI/Columbia artists to the list to make it easier to create a separate article. Steelbeard1 (talk) 18:03, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
I created the article List of Columbia Graphophone Company artists. Feel free to add additional artists who had recordings released on EMI's Columbia label. Steelbeard1 (talk) 03:19, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
The split is now complete. Steelbeard1 (talk) 17:14, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Useless list
editWhen were these artists signed to the label, and in which territories? I see from previous comments there used to be a table; why is just a list of names now? Totnesmartin (talk) 15:28, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
- My guess is that the info you mention can be found in the artist's main article so there is no need to include that info here. THX1136 (talk) 21:47, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
Peter McIan
editEven though he doesn't have a Wikipedia page (yet), I can prove Peter McIan (whom I added to the page recently) was a Columbia recording artist: https://www.discogs.com/Peter-McIan-Playing-Near-The-Edge/release/2100786 This is a Discogs listing for Playing Near the Edge, his only album as an artist. It featured the singles "Solitaire" (a #52 Billboard hit) and "Light in Your Eyes". 2600:1700:5854:10:B820:3344:9E70:E1AC (talk) 23:48, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
