Closed eyes for the first time?

It says in one of his pictures that when he died that it was the first time he closed his eyes. Is there any sort of proof to this? Viewtiful Rekk 21:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Uhhhh... I'm not totally sure if there is proof for that. Sjones23 01:56, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
Bah it just adds drama, I'll change it. --BiT 10:49, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Hallewhisper2.jpg

Image:Hallewhisper2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:06, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Teru's Catchphrase

Doesn't Mikami, in the English translation of the manga, say "Eliminate....Eliminate...Eliminate..." as oppposed to "Delete...delete....delete..." (as the article currently states) when he kills fellows with the Death Note? I know the fansubs use "Eliminate," but that's not a reliable source. Anyone else think "Delete" is wrong? -Metroid Bishop 76.185.148.226 02:35, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

No, Delete is what he says in the English manga. I have the volume open right in front of me, and it says "Delete" in every speechbubble. Maybe scanslations used 'Eliminate', but the official English manga says "Delete". Nique talk 04:09, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Sakujo translates to Eliminate/Elimination. Furthermore, the English Wikipedia will follow official English work, not the Japanese one, when any is available. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.113.59.233 (talk)
I think "Delete" makes more sense in English anyway. As I've said before in edit summaries and on other editors' talk pages, Mikami saying "Delete" is likening it to hitting the Delete button on life's keyboard, so to speak. We do follow the English manga for Death Note in most cases, except for names and most of the information given in How To Read. Nique talk 16:49, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing that up for me. -Metroid Bishop 76.185.148.226 16:40, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

I'd be interested in knowing what his catchphrase was in Japanese. Is that something worth having on the article? If not, could someone post it here? Haze01 09:59, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Oops, just noticed that I'm not supposed to add to the archives. Sorry. Adding this and other things to the main discussion page here. Haze01 10:01, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Higuchi

I added a new picture for the Higuchi character. The old picture titled Death Note Yotsuba Group EP 17.JPG was of all the Yotsuba group, and I think it should be also displayed in somewhere in that section, but I can't do it. So if someone else could do it for me, that would be great. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yokv (talkcontribs)

At first, I was considering against it, but the box that serves as the frame of the picture is about Higuchi, and he is the only real important member of Yotsuba. I support this move. --Delf 07:34, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Also in the near future, there will be added more information about the Yotsuba members, alongside with a each one. --17:36, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Reference to L as an antagonist

This wording might not sit well with some fans of L, but there is no denying that Light is the main character of the series and despite his questionable morality and what some would call acts of heinous evil, he is the series primary protagonist (as stated by this article).

Please keep in mind an antagonist does not have to be evil, merely an obstacle to the protagonist (in this case, Light). I think all can agree that L was the largest obstacle to Kira while he was alive, in terms of institutional opposition and his skills of deduction intelligence which is rivaled in the anime only by Light himself.

I'm not calling L evil, in fact I believe L is/was probably the only 'good' main character in the anime series.

It's pretty simple. Light is a villainous protagonist, L a heroic antagonist. (Arguments over whether Light is truly evil or simply corrupted by power can be saved for a forum.) --tjstrf talk 20:27, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Indeed. Some might also argue that Light is not evil but is infact acting in the interest of a "greater good". But definitely forum fodder 68.54.212.170

Light's Death

Under "killed by" shouldn't Matsuda be listed. I know that Ryuk wrote his name down and that is what kills him but without the gunshot wounds Ryuk wouldn't have written the name down and Light wouldn't have died. So technically it is the gunshot wounds from Matsuda that cause his death. I think at least that both names should be listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.106.182.101 (talk)

Not really. Then we'd have to list Light under L's and Watari's "Killed by", since Light was the one that manipulated Rem into having to kill them. And under Takada's, we'd have to consider putting Light and Mikami because they both tried to kill her. There are too many manipulated deaths in the series, and Matsuda's shots were not fatal. Thus, no, it should stay just Ryuk, for simplicity's sake. Nique talk 13:05, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. Following your logic would mean that Mikami's anime Killed by would be Fountain pen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.113.59.233 (talk)
LOL!!. On a more seriosu note - "Matsuda's shots were not fatal"

How'd you arrive at this conclusion? Ryuk could have written Light's name anytime he wanted. But he's supposed to do it according to Light's lifespan, which was coming to an end due to the gunshots. Does that not seem to simple enough? eZio 17:24, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Matsuda didn't shoot Light in a fatal area of the body. He shot his wrist, and it was a graze. A couple of other shots were fired, but later frames in the manga clearly show no fatal wounds on Light's body. Ryuk didn't have to go by Light's lifespan at all. Where did you get that conclusion? Ryuk just had to write Light's name in his Note, whether Light was still alive or dead already when he did it, before he could go back to the Shinigami realm. Nique talk 18:57, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
I think the important point here is that Ryuk simply did not want to wait. He clearly says "...waiting is a bother".
Though one would be lead to assume Matsuda's shots were indeed fatal, it could also be asserted, based on Light's belief he still had a chance of winning, should Ryuk write the investigation team members' names on his note, that he was hurt but not seriously.

In the light of the above outlined theory, the possibility Ryuk was referring to Light's impending death by exectution at the hands of Near and the SPK is indeed a reality. -- Ishikawa Minoru 19:16, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Nique, why do u think Ryuk didnot have to go by Light's lifespan? What else could he been waiting for? eZio 09:43, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Why should he have to go by Light's lifespan? He seemed to just be waiting for Light to get desperate enough to ask him to help, so that he could "betray" Light in that moment, going back to when he said he would never help Light any more than he would help L. What makes you SO convinced that he was waiting for Light's lifespan? Nique talk 18:01, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm NOT convinced either way. I just think its more logical to assume that Ryuk was waiting for the lifespan rather than just claiming that Ryuk wanted to "betray" Light. eZio 07:58, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
How can you betray someone you never sided with? --BiT 16:19, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I used "betray" for lack of a better word. Ryuk could see that Light was getting desperate, he probably thought it would be fun or interesting to trick Light in that moment. He sure seemed amused when he did it, anyway. Nique talk 16:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
And I still don't see any good reason explaining why Ryuk would have to wait for Light's lifespan to give out. He is, after all, a Shinigami. However, this is getting into forum territory. We've long since decided that Matsuda didn't kill him. Especially since Light did die of a heart attack, Ryuk was the sole cause of that. That's all that should be listed on the page. Nique talk 15:24, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
At the beginning Ryuk promised Light that he would write his name down in the notebook. He also stated that Light would die in prison anyways but he was going to keep his promise.68.145.57.2 05:23, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
