Splitting proposal
editThis page only covered 1973–present until February of this year, when Wbm1058 moved it to 1956–present. However, the page now exceeds the Template include size so the navbox doesn't render, and it will only get worse as more years are added. Therefore, I proposing to split the article back into List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1956–1972) List of NCAA University Division independents football standings (1956–1972) and List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1973–present). --Ahecht (TALK

- Support (with modification) split into List of NCAA University Division independents football standings (1956–1972) and List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1973–present), since "Division I" didn't exist until 1973. Eagles 24/7 (C) 15:42, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I updated the proposal. --Ahecht (TALK

- I was wondering what happened to everything before 1956 and found Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football/Archive 22#Independents football records templates prior to 1956 which explains that. I was working on clearing pages from Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded on 20 February 2019 when at 21:41, 20 February 2019 I moved page List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1906–1972) to List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1906–1955): splitting due to transclusion limit exceeded. I copied the "NCAA University Division" section from List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1906–1955), and added the 2018 season. Hence my move due to the change in the scope of the list, avoiding a three-way split. Eagles247's proposal makes sense. – wbm1058 (talk) 16:45, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Re: List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1869–1905), LOL. There was no "Division I FBS" back then. Some of these teams' seasons consisted of just a single game, against a cross-town "rival". College football was truly just a game back then, not a professional sport. wbm1058 (talk) 16:58, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- wbm1058, yes, those pre-1956 lists were deleted here as the independent standings templates prior to 1956 have been broken up by region; e.g. see 1955 college football season#Independents. Jweiss11 (talk) 17:20, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support Univ 56-72, FBS 73-present. However to be more accurate FBS and FCS split in 1978.-UCO2009bluejay (talk) 00:45, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
