Page Overhaul

edit

This page is very large and jumbled. I feel like it could greatly benefit from a group of editors going through it and neatening things up and taking things out. Would it be good to split the page into two, and have "List of Doctor Who DVD releases" and "List of Doctor Who VHS releases" or something? Even then, the page would still be long and complex. How about another split for the classic series DVD releases and new series DVD releases? I feel like this is an important discussion to be had. @What doing: Please explain your constant removals on this article and at "The Woman Who Fell to Earth", concerning the home media release for that particular episode. -- /Alex/21 22:58, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Splitting proposal

edit

@TheMysteriousEditor and AlexTheWhovian: I propose that this article be split into separate pages called List of Doctor Who DVD releases and List of Doctor Who Blu-ray releases. The current mixing is confusing and hard to navigate. JonathanDP81 (talk) 06:33, 3 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that split would make sense as (aside from 'The Collection') the Blu-ray releases have had identical DVD counterparts. It might make sense to give 'The Collection' its own section as it's a separate range from the single-serial releases. LostTL (talk) 22:00, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree with @JonathanDP81: . The releases should be separate. DVD is standard definition and Blu-ray is high defintion, so it makes sense to split them. TrixieCat123 (talk) 15:07, 8 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
The use of superscripts (A), (B) and (D, B) messes up the date sorting in the column headers. Additionally, (A) appears in the table but not in the legend, so I'm not sure what it is for. If this were split into DVD and Blu-ray pages, then the superscripts would no longer be necessary and date sorting would work again.--Legalize (talk) 23:32, 1 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I've made split articles in my sandbox:
Any thoughts?

I agree with the split as well. The blurays are grouping whole seasons together which (with two exceptions) the DVD's did not do. The blurays include new extras like the "Behind the Sofa" featurettes. Now I know we aren't listing each extra for these but it does point out that the blurays are not identical to the dvds. I like your split Etron81. Thanks for your work! MarnetteD|Talk 23:22, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
My initial thought was to disagree, but I think a split makes more sense after looking at the drafts. My only suggestion might be to include a note on the DVD article next to serials that also received Blu-ray releases, with a link to the Blu-ray list; for the Eighth Doctor onwards, this can just be noted in the opening paragraph before the table. – Rhain 00:12, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I LOVE this idea and the drafts. Support this 100% Rcarter555 (talk) 13:52, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
As part of this proposal, I intend to change List of Doctor Who home video releases to a disambiguation page that links to the videotape, DVD, blu-ray, laserdisc and UMD lists Etron81 (talk) 00:23, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Split completed - feel free to clean up anything I missed Etron81 (talk) 00:22, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

For anyone who can get the book or access it online The Classic Doctor Who DVD Compendium is a comprehensive look at the DVD releases. It could be used alongside Amazon refs or even in place of them. MarnetteD|Talk 02:25, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have an ebook version of this and will work on this - it only covers the UK releases fully - US/AUS releases are not covered in detail Etron81 (talk) 15:09, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
You are right Etron81. It has been a few years since I read it and had forgotten that fact. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 15:56, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I started with the 2nd Doctor section as the first doesnt seem to have amazon links - I'm removing amazon ref for the R2 releases as I go Etron81 (talk) 16:06, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
