Talk:List of Duino Elegies translations

Start of List of Duino Elegies Translations

edit

Duino Elegies has myriad translations in English. I didn't want to house them on the website for the article, which contains many citations and argues for the notability of the topic. The list would just overwhelm the main article. The current article is really just a stub. I added 20 of the English-language ones to start the list, but am hoping that editors will grow this over time. Wtfiv (talk) 17:30, 4 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Further notes on why this list was created: The original article on the Duino Elegies mentioned a few items, but during a Featured Article Review, the list was seen to be aging badly (only older sources), and the choices seemed arbitrary, or definitely could be argued about. Creating a list here as a "child article" of Duino Elegies allows:

  • The list of translations not to overwhelm the text and sources in the main article.
  • A more comprehensive list of translations as space limitations are less of a problem.
  • Updating this page without impacting the main article.
  • Reduces the need to restrict translations to most "authorative" or "notable", as for now, there is room for all.
  • Has the potential to give readers a more concrete sense of how many translations actually exist, rather than relying on a summary statement that quickly goes out of date.
  • Provides readers a functional resources: actual works that they can look up to read or compare.
  • Addressing the fact that Rilke translations are international, something that was not addressed in the main article.

Could you also add this 2023 Spanish translation?

Thanks. DieHoren (talk) 14:24, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Y Both added. I'm not sure anyone monitors this list frequently, so please feel free to add them when more come up. Besides using the cite template, the only editing request is to respect Dlph's sorting them from earliest to latest publication date within language. Wtfiv (talk) 16:58, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Removed two maintenance tags

edit

I removed source and notability tags from problems. An inspection of the parent article Duino Elegies shows the topic to be both notable and sourced. It's my understanding that the list doesn't need to have sources, though each item on this list is a source. Globalization remains an issue. Wtfiv (talk) 01:29, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Removed last maintenance tag

edit

It looks like this list has enough sources to be more worldwide. I've removed the "World Wide" maintenance tag. There's more versions and more languages that can be referenced, but it is on its way!

Alphabetical vs. chronological

edit

Is there any reason to favour alphabetical over chronological ordering? Dlph (talk) 17:07, 10 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
