It appears an IP is very insistent on changing Joe Tate's name within the article (also adding an uncredited middle name), so I'm opening this discussion to gain consensus on what it should be. The character is credited as Joe Tate in the show's closing credits, and various magazine cast lists (Radio Times, Inside Soap, Soaplife). From a quick Google hits search I did earlier, it seems Joe is his WP:COMMONAME, and the hits box seems to agree. - JuneGloom07Talk01:30, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
I would agree with the name being Joseph Tate. I've watched all the episodes of Emmerdale so I'm going with the facts. The character Joseph Tate was born on-screen on 8 June 1995 and named Joseph Mark Tate after his mother's stepfather Joseph Sugden (who had just recently died in a car crash) and her brother Mark Hughes (who died during the 1993 Emmerdale plane crash), it's mentioned in the article. No one is disputing the fact that he is popularly known as and mostly called Joe Tate, (he is sometimes referred to as Joseph Tate) and credited as Joe Tate on the show but even the character revealed himself to be Joseph Tate when he revealed his identity on 4 January 2018. Ned Porteous who plays the part of Joseph Tate is credited as Joseph Tate on both his Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Porteous) and IMDB (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7504614/) pages. The character is also referred to as Joseph Tate on the official Emmerdale Website (http://www.itv.com/emmerdale/tom), the official Emmerdale Twitter account (here is an instance; https://twitter.com/emmerdale/status/1006240113817522187) and the official Emmerdale Facebook account (here is an instance; https://www.facebook.com/emmerdale/photos/a.165828538848.145594.117443273848/10157908955453849/?type=1&theater). 80.2.250.99, I'm glad you decided to join in, although blanking the discussion wasn't a great start. IMDb isn't considered a reliable source as it's content is user generated, much like Wikipedia. So, ignoring those, we have three sites that refer to him as Joseph once. Is it possible to find some more posts from the official sites that mention either name? As I don't think that's enough to show that Joseph is his WP:COMMONAME at the moment. I'll also add that I believe the majority of characters also refer to him as Joe on-screen.
It appears that his common name is Joe Tate as demonstrated above in the hits box. We are not disputing his actual name - just what is common from the real world perspective. All you did really was relay a fictional history written by writers aka In-universe. Unsure why you chose Wikipedia itself as the source because that is what we are discussing here. Plus IMDB is edited by anyone like here.Rainthe 116:13, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, it would have to be Joe Tate he is credited as Joe, so he is Joe, and I defiantly disagree with the uncredited middle name been added in as it does against consensus at WP:SOAPS. I watch Emmerdale and he is most often referred to as Joe. Besides, every other article only uses the credited name, so why should this one be so special? — Hatio93Talk15:04, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
