I believe this page should be repurposed to simply list devices using the stock/vanilla Google Experience GUI for Android. It has been stated in the press since the release of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One on the Google Play store that they will NOT be receiving updates directly from Google services (which is the assumption/basis for most of this page).

Following my repurposing suggestion, we would then add phones like the Motorola Droid (1), Motorola Triumph, T-Mobile G2, etc., that all use the Google Skin.

Personally, for all devices before the "Google Experience" page of the Play Store, I think this page should list all the Android version's flagship devices (I.E. first stock device to have a particular version of the Android OS) that are not in the Nexus Brand. For Example (Including the Nexus devices for illustration purposes only, not suggesting they are added to the page):

• Android 1.0: HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1
• Android 1.1: (No flagship launch device, update only?)
• Android 1.5: HTC Magic/T-Mobile MyTouch 3G
• Android 1.6: (No flagship launch device, update only?)
• Android 2.0: Motorola Droid
• Android 2.1: Nexus One
• Android 2.2: (No flagship launch device, update only?)
• Android 2.3: Nexus S
• Android 3.0: Motorola Xooom (WiFi)
• Android 3.1: (No flagship launch device, update only?)
• Android 3.2: (No flagship launch device, update only?)
• Android 4.0: Galaxy Nexus
• Android 4.1: Nexus 7 (2012)
• Android 4.2: Nexus 4/Nexus 10/Samsung Galaxy S4 (GPE)/HTC One (GPE)
• Android 4.3: Nexus 7 (2013)

To be clear, I propose adding the HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1, the HTC Magic/T-Mobile MyTouch 3G and the Motorola Droid to the list, and consider the list complete for all previously released devices. Potatman (talk) 18:59, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

I agree that the definition of what makes a Google Experience Device may need some touchups. However, unless those devices have ever been called GEDs by a reliable third party, no, they're not suitable for inclusion here. --uKER (talk) 19:02, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Once upon a time, www.google.com/phone had most Android devices listed, with some of them marked as "with Google" (and described as being a pure "Google experience"). Amongst the devices listed as "with Google" were most(all?) of the ones I mentioned above (as well as some others IIRC). Unfortunately, the only way to see the page anymore is with web archives, and I cannot find current source for this. Move page to "Google Play edition device"?

There may be a good reason for this, but I was wondering why this page is under "Google Experience device" when the devices are pretty much always referred to as "Google Play edition devices" (by Google and others). Again, there may be a good reason for this that I do not know about, so please let me know it there is one. Feynman1918 Talk 01:19, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I am the one that created the redirect page. I knew that was a good idea, but I just wanted to ask if there was a reason not to just move the entire page. I see what you mean by the Motorola Xoom not being a Google Play edition device, though. So does "Google Experience device" just mean that the software is basically stock Android? If so, should devices like the Moto X also be listed here? Sorry for all the questions, I am just not familiar with what the term "Google Experience device" includes, now that I know that it is not synonymous with "Google Play edition device".

I think that the main problem is that there is not really a consistent definition of "Google Experience" device. Any new "Google Play edition" devices seem to be included in the "Google Experience" device category, but I see no real consensus for what devices in the past constitute "Google Experience" devices. For instance, the Motorola Xoom was made before "Google Play edition" devices were introduced, but is it a "Google Experience" device? It it listed as such in this article, but the only reference I could find elsewhere was here. Also, none of the more recent "Google Play edition" devices have been described as "Google Experience" devices. Since "Google Experience" seems to be an old and little used term for which there is no consistent definition, I think the only way to make the scope of this article clear is the move it to "Google Play edition device" and remove the Motorola Xoom. Okay. So do you think that the new name should be "List of Google Play edition devices" instead of "Google Play edition device"? I guess it is mostly a list but there is also some descriptive information about what the word means. Either way seems fine to me, although I think "Google Play edition device" would be better because that way more general information such as the introduction can be kept and in the future things like history could be added. Again, it seems that we have reached a consensus and after we decide which title to use, we can request a move move the page.

Motorola Xoom

If I recall correctly, Motorola Xoom was a Google Experience Device in the US. Since Google Experience device redirects to this page, is there a reason it's excluded? Thanks, 15zulu (talk) 09:05, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

It was a pure version of Android but it was not a google experience device. That program wasn't announced until later. - Galatz^Talk 13:17, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
