Meredith's hair is often refered to as blonde, but isn't it brown?

Good looks??

Good looks??

Not quite sure those statements belong in the descriptions as they're quite relative. Panda

What was Dr. Ellis Grey's specialty?

edit

Hello, as a recent convert to Grey's Anatomy, I don't know what Dr. Ellis Grey's specialty was. The reason why I bring this up is that perhaps it should be mentioned in the character description of Dr. Meredith Grey.

And yes, I do have the DVDs of seasons 1 and 2, I just have to find the time to watch them! Thanks.--Kyoko 13:41, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I know she had a specific technique named after her, but I do not think that her specialty was ever mentioned. - Xtreme680 04:55, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think she was Cardio...because I have a feeling that's why Cristina asked her a question about Cardio when Ellis was lucid and she had replied that she had to be strong and blah blah blah...I might do some searching for a definite answer...or might just watch a few eps. (Never need an important reason to watch it)Nisior (talk) 00:13, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

She was a general surgeon. In a deleted scene of season 3 Meredith told Cristina that she's thinking of following in her mother's footsteps and be a general surgeon. - JaterGirl (talk) 02:50, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

And the technique that was named after her was the Laparoscopic-Grey Method. Laparoscopic surgery is common among General Surgery as it often has to deal with gallbladder removal. This was mentioned by Ellis herself in Season 2 Episode 3, Make Me Lose Control, when Karev had to step in and give Ellis an exam because she would not allow O'Malley to do it. A most recent example is this type of surgery is Season 5 Episode 16, An Honest Mistake, Christina Yang is seen calls into question Seattle Grace's longest standing general surgeon for using an dated-method of laparoscopic surgery to remove a patient's gallbladder. This adds onto the evidence that Ellis Grey's specialty was General Surgery.

In S06E16, Harper Avery mentions it's plastics. But then, in S08E12, Hunt says it's general. -Magda Narima

In S0E16 Meredith introduces herself as Dr. Grey to which to Dr. Harper Avery answers that they most have the most talented plastic surgeon on staff (since he thinks Dr. Ellis Grey should be in her late 50's/early 60's), he was not saying Ellis Grey was a plastic surgeon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:908:FD51:AA60:78EF:98BC:CCB2:456D (talk) 23:35, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

In S08 E12, Dr. Owen Hunt confronts Meredith about choosing her specialty and suggests General Surgery to her. He says this because of her work under Bailey and then mentions that her mother was one of the best general surgeons there has ever been.

I've been watching "Time Has Come Today"

& "I Am a Tree".

In "time", "Cristina Yang" says that she's Jewish. She sits shivah|shiv'ah {not shiv}, regarding "Denny" Dennison Duquette. Sandra Oh is Korean-Canadian. Is there a page w/ Cristina's family-tree?

Thank You.

Something may have been wrong w/ my machine's various search fuctions.

I've just found:

"*Dr. Cristina Yang: A doctor of Korean descent raised in Judaism (her mother converted on re-marriage) and a native of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Yang is not religious, but has mentioned Jewish customs from her upbringing like Shiv'ah and at times has referred to herself as Jewish."

Thank You.

Not sure this is relevant, but I'm perplexed by Christina's last name. Yang is more commonly a Chinese name than a Korean one. (I've actually never met a Korean-American or Korean with Yang as a surname) Also her mother took the name "Rubenstein" when she was three. Granted this isn't an issue the show has dealt with, hence I'm uncertain of its relevance.--T. Anthony 15:34, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think her mother is Korean, but she may have a Chinese father that gave her the name. Anyway, to clear things up, yes, her mother remmarried a Dr. Rubenstein, an oral surgeon in Beverly Hills, which is why she was raised Jewish. - Xtreme680 04:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I sort of got an answer to part of it. The episode where George's Dad died she talks about her dad dying when she was nine and what that meant to her. It's fairly clear she doesn't mean her stepdad, so she might have went with her father's name as solidarity. Still being a nine-year old with a different last name than both your living parents is a bit unusual, but not impossible I guess. On it being a Chinese name I've since found a few Koreans with the last name Yang. Yong is a bit more common, but I guess it's not too odd as there was some Chinese intermixture in Korea.--T. Anthony 06:46, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

In the 2nd episode of season one Cristina said she's Korean, after Izzie asks her to translate for an chinese patient.

Why to secondary characters have links to the actors that portray them, but not the leads? Let's have the actor names (and wikilinks) for all characters. --24.249.108.133 18:36, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Callie's surname

edit

Just bringing this over from the main "Grey's Anatomy" page, since it's already come up a few times. Based on canon information to date, Callie's surname has not changed as a result of her marriage to George. George himself referred to her without "O'Malley" tacked on, and until the opposite happens, it should be assumed that she is keeping her maiden name, ala Miranda Bailey. DarkandTwisty29 21:49, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Callie's middle name

edit

Three reasonable possibilities:

  • ABC's episode guide gives the spelling as "Iphegenia".
  • It's undoubtedly taken from the Greek mythological figure Iphigeneia.
  • The article on Iphigeneia gives the alternate spelling "Iphigenia", and uses it here and there. Per Google, this spelling is an order of magnitude more common than either of the others.

I think we have to take the ABC reference as definitive, though, until/unless they issue a correction. Emurphy42 06:21, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

New Resident?

edit

Should there be a section of the resident Sydney? Her character is now been seen quite a few times now. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mclover08 (talkcontribs) 00:28, 13 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

Sydney already has a passage under the "Recurring Characters" section. She is not classified under "Residents" because Kali Rocha is not a series regular. DarkandTwisty29 00:49, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Source for Bailey's alma mater?

edit

Where did the information that Bailey is an alumna of Wellesley come from? I don't recall that ever being mentioned in an episode. If there's not a source for that claim, it should be removed from her character description. DarkandTwisty29 02:22, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Joe the bartender

edit

Hi, I'm translating the article for it:wiki. I read "Joe and his boyfriend Walter" and i was wondering whether Joe is gay or Walter and Joe are just friends. He's gay, I've just read the rest, sorry :) --Absinthe88 14:14, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ellis Grey

edit

Should she be in "Deceased Characters"?! I know she's in the "Meredith's Family" section but if we were to put her in a non-deceased group like what's stopping us from putting the other deceased characters in other sections?! I'd love to here some comments..I won't change it until I here someone thinks it's a good idea Nisior (talk) 00:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can someone put a spoiler alert on this page for people from countries other than America...I just ruined a story for myself Nisior (talk) 00:19, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Medical Personal or whatever!!!

edit

Why you put nurse Tyler there i mean he is but when we put him there that mean that we should put this woman who is acctually Richard assistant i think she is old and she often in the show you know. And this indian guy he is all the time around too. I mean if we put Tyler there that means that we should put these two too. Just the problem is i don't know their names so please tell me what do you think about that. --77.29.66.217 (talk) 20:53, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rebecca Pope & Bonnie Crasnoff

These characters' descriptions are way too long. I also think that Thatcher Gray and Adelle sections should be shortened too, but it's less critical -NineInchRuiner (talk) 12:12, 2 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Organizing Lists of Characters

edit

How should we organize the lists of characters? The list of main characters is alphabetical, but the lists of minor characters do not seem to be in any particular order. I already reordered the list of deceased characters to be in the order in which they died. Sarahjane10784 (talk) 20:17, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think we should abandon the table format. There was a condensed version of this table on the main page and to better place GA among FA articles, there was a consenses to go with prose-style descriptions vs. organizing it into a tabular fashion; the table was removed and replaced with prose. If we compare GA to House, which does have FA-standing, their character listing organizes the information in prose. Ace(TCON) 23:00, 31 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I happen to agree with you Ace. Prose is usually used in FA. TRLIJC19 (talk) 02:16, 2 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

What is FA? Mrplastic (talk) 18:46, 6 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

He has been mentioned in Miranda Bailey's description, but he doesn't have his own section. I don't know if he should or not, but just an observation.

Bokhee

edit

It would be nice to add scrub nurse Bokhee because she appears in almost every episode, but I can't find what actress plays her. All I know is that she is a real scrub nurse in real life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cantlivewithoutgreys (talkcontribs) 01:26, 19 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Listings under families

edit

I have a few questions 1) How is it decided whether someone is listed as a family member in their own right or not? Callie's uncle Berto and a couple of others are alive but never seen and are mentioned in their own right. Christina's father is not mentioned in his own right, only under her mother. Should he get a line of his own since he's significant, even if he is deceased?

2) What order do family members go in? They are not alphabetical, nor do they seem to be listed by generation. Should listings start first with parents, then siblings, then spouses then children? Where do ex spouses fit in?

3) Should April Kepner get her own section? If Denny gets listed under Izzie, should Matthew Taylor be listed under an entry for her?

Also, Alex and Izzie should be listed as exes in each other's family. Naomi Evans should be listed as Alex's step-mother. Jimmy Evans doesn't need his entire character's history listed. Maggie Pierce, Catherine Avery, Jackson Avery and by extension, all of Jackson's family, should be listed under Dr. Webber. I think it would be fair to list Ellis Grey under Dr. Webber as well as the mother of his child. Owen Hunt should be listed as Christina's ex husband. Thoughts?
