I added a new picture

Picture is nice, but zoomed in too much, hard to tell over all shape. Perhaps a similar pic with a wider field of view would do?

The picture currently used in the box

is 90 pixels by 90 pixels. A similar shot at 125 pixels or more would be better. However, don't simply enlarge; it should be nice and sharp. Thanks! - Gavin

Why does the target reticle

turn red when you lock on to 343? - John-1107

343's rescue

156.34.183.89, I'm not sure where you got that information from, but I pulled mine from the "Conversations from the Universe" booklet in Halo 2. 343 GS says: "Revolution ETA-Condition: Excelent! I believe I see assistance approaching... <ends>" --Khaim 22:45, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Cleanup

The following sections seems like they could be worded better and backed up with some sources:

The number seven could also relate to the English alphabet: G is the seventh letter counted from the beginning of the alphabet and so is T if counted from the end, "G" and "T" being the initials for "Guilty" in Guilty Spark and "Tangent" in Penitent Tangent respectively.

The word "penitent" means "Feeling pain or sorrow on account of sins or offenses", and "Tangent" means unrelated, hence "2401 Penitent Tangent" is most likely not guilty of firing the Halo systems and killing the Forerunners. "343 Guilty Spark" is so named because he may have helped, or had a part in, the destruction of all sentient life including that of the earlier Forerunners, though this can easily be discounted due to the fact the A.I's were quite possibly named before firing of the rings.

Despite the literary and mathematical depth of the source of 343 Guilty Spark's name, his blithe disregard for the hero's peril and endless prattling about irrelevant facts earned him the common Halo player nickname, "that little blue bastard."

Continuity

This has led many to dismiss the continuity of the third novel, as it is probably seperate to that of the games.

Question

In The Gay Science, a novel by Friedrich Nietzsche the quote "God is dead" appears for the third time in section 343. Ironically, the year 343 was also when the Pope became the leader of Christianity.

Multiple Monitors?

"There are seven Halo rings in the Halo world, and it appears that each ring has one monitor (or oracle) such as Penitent Tangent 2401." (from the 2401 Penitent Tangent article)

Unfortunately I cannot remember (or find) the location of the actual source, but I do rember reading that a Halo installation has 3 monitors:

• One for repairs and upkeep of the Installation protocol denies this monitor from fulfilling the jobs of either of the other two although it was aware of the Protocol of all three monitors. It had control over the smaller 'repair' drones seen in Delta Halo's Library and could communicate with both other Monitors
• One for communication and basic containment; this monitor would locate any and all reclaimers with the hope of activating Halo, and would also deal with small-scale flood outbreaks. As such It had control over the Sentinals as well as the Teleportation Program of Halo - 343 Guilty Spark was of this designation
• One for a "backup" that had control over all the programs, subroutines and protocols of the other two and could potentially override their programming. This designation of Monitor could deal Directly with the Index, including re-uniting it with the core. This designation of Monitor would only come into effect if both of the other two were incapacitated somehow.

However, due to the fact that I have no sources to verify this from, I doubt that this should be in the Article. Does anyone know where this is from? Tar7arus 14:59, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Minor?

Minor Charactar? What?! Tarturaus is a main charactar? He is...but so is the Monitor, and pretty much half of the people on the minor charactar list.

Tone of voice

It might just be my ears and interpretation, but at the end of Halo 2, where he says "Why, the Ark, of course." he seems to say it in a sort of tone, I don't know how to describe it: "Why, the Ark, of course. (WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS EARLIER?!)" ThirdEchelon 23:32, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

He says it in a tone of voice like he's surprised they don't know it and feels embarrased to state the obvious. --Doncroft 14:58, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I think he still thinks their Reclaimers and thus that they would know everything about the HALO and ect. and so they would know about the ark (kind like he acts all the time... like the chief know whats going on.

Yep, he thinks that the Master Chief (in his veiw, a Reclaimer) knows about the Flood investation and knows what must be done. Thats why he sounds surprised because he thinks that we should already know all of this.Wild ste 08:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Spark and Tangent

Have anyone noticed the likeness of Guilty Spark's and Penitent Tangent's names? Okay, first off sparks and tangents could be taken as the same thing because they both go fling off course. Where as Penitent means to forgive sins and guilty is to have them. This is just food for thought I have no idea where I'm going with it so just think about it. P.S. they seem like covenant names then again that could be because they got the style of names from the forerunner, like they did everything else. Lol, thats odd!

Connection with Gravemind

Did anyone else pick up on 343 Guilty Spark adopting the same style of speech as Gravemind when he attacks the Chief, the Arbiter, and Johnson?

"You are the child of my makers
Inheritor of all they left behind
You are forerunner
But this ring is mine"

It's very similar to the style with which Gravemind speaks (i.e. alternate rhyming lines). Is this supposed to imply that 343 is somehow infected by the flood? Betterlucknexttime 01:57, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Also, Gravemind spoke mainly in trochaic heptameter (lines with seven syllables) where Guilty Spark's dialogue has a pattern of 9-10-5-5 (not quite sure what that is). 66.24.227.23 04:57, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

"Guilty" Spark?

Accessing one of the terminals in Campaign, before it turned red and moved to the conversation between Didact and the Librarian, I noticed some text where some form of conversation was going on. The conversation revolved around unauthorised access of Forerunner database, and the person trying to access the info was 04-343; I know it's not concrete but is it possible that indicates Guilty Spark (Installation 04), and if so, culd that be what he was 'guilty' of? I know it's just broad speculating so I thought I should ask for other thoughts on this, in case we wanted to add anything in. Dac 23:44, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Unless Bungie says anything (which I doubt they will), speculation would be original research. An intruiging question, though. But for that matter, what would 2401 be "penitent" for? David Fuchs ^(talk) 23:48, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
