The campaign is over
The election was a week ago. Why are endorsements still being added to this article? It's kind of the past the point of being relevant. Liz Read! Talk! 06:42, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- If the clear endorsement was published before or on election day and that is reported by a reliable independent secondary source, I don't see why it cannot be added any time. There were quite a few outstanding edit requests apart from anything editors find later. --Mirokado (talk) 01:01, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

still to be considered
These involve, at least mostly, performances at campaign meetings. --Mirokado (talk) 20:02, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
I am not sure about adding these.
- Does performing at a campaign event count as an endorsement?
- The IP has recently updated the requests with more detailed justifications, so it is worth taking a fresh look.

Mirokado, they didn’t just perform at a concert. It says they helped out or supported or campaigned with Biden which is considered an endorsement. “ A Night at a Pub for Joe, a virtual rally, is inviting Irish Americans to come together in support of Joe Biden.“ is different from just saying “James Galway and Matt Molloy performed at the event”. “ Musical entertainment has always been used as a way to promote, whether it be for an ad or a movie. In this case, Biden is not only raising money for his shot in the White House, but also may increase his chances of getting more votes with well-known artists showing their support” is different than saying “these artists performed at a Joe Biden event”. 2600:1002:B113:38BF:C0CC:220D:DBA8:B3CD (talk) 16:55, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- Mirokado, thank you very much. Now for the jazz artists, I think you can add those as well as endorsements since it says they are joining forces to benefit Biden’s campaign and are also part of a group called Jazz for Biden. However if you don’t agree, please let me know why. Thank you! 2603:301B:2702:AE00:41E3:A46D:319E:FAEC (talk) 02:40, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Portugal. The Man and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club https://www.laweekly.com/music-pick-livestreaming-team-joe-sings-again/ “Portugal. The Man and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are the latest artists to get involved with the Team Joe Sings campaign, which sees musicians posting videos on YouTube to show support for Joe Biden’s run at the presidency” is already an endorsement (first line) 2601:8A:4102:B3A0:79D9:6525:6755:B900 (talk) 06:38, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Pennsylvania2:, wonderful! Much appreciated. Would you mind taking a look at some of the above artists? I personally think they are all endorsements but maybe some are not. At least please add the ones referring to performing at “Team Joe Sings” which is a campaign where musical artists perform in support of Biden. Also please add Jim Bolger, former pm of New Zealand. Thanks!
- I added Bolger and the musicians that I had heard of. Thanks for the sources!Pennsylvania2 (talk) 22:46, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- thank you @Pennsylvania2:, I know everyone’s so busy today! Below are just the two references for those participating in “Team Joe Sings”. Even though these aren’t the most well known musicians, these are the ones who probably campaigned the most and most directly for Biden. It looks like some other members of this campaign have already been added but those performing at the last two concerts were not. If you wouldn’t mind taking a look, that would be great, thank you! I’m the meantime I’ll be scouring the internet for more additions! 2600:1002:B113:38BF:E4B8:B6B9:7CA6:B9F2 (talk) 22:58, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Village Pump discussion
I've started a discussion at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#When_are_endorsements_notable? about when endorsements are notable, with this page as a prime example of things working badly. Your comments are welcome. power~enwiki (π, ν) 01:00, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Page size, redux
As I noted in September, this page is far too big. Thought it has shrunk sightly since then, it has in fact grown considerably since two large sections were split off in the inetrim; and now has 663,588 bytes of markup, and needs to be split into several parts. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:11, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
- Entertainers, artists and athletes should be split into its own article as celebrity endorsements, first of all. Onetwothreeip (talk) 07:46, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Definitely. Politicians, non-politicians. Two articles at least. pauli133 (talk) 15:00, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Break the sections chronologically instead. it could be split into endorsements before/after clinching the nomination/Bernie dropping out to distinguish primary endorsements and those given for the general election. As on Elizabeth Warren and Bernie endorsements pages, the endorsements are also chronologically dated and indicate if someone endorsed another candidate before. ucimatty (talk) 04:48, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing, Pauli133, and Ucimatty: Page is now 516,132 bytes. Any further suggestions? Onetwothreeip (talk) 03:33, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- Progress! Keep repeating the process, section by section, until the article is down to notable individuals and organizations, as the lead claims. pauli133 (talk) 15:28, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
Here are tables of the current number of entries per section (col 3), with index being the sequential section number and level nesting level starting at 2:
index | level | count | name |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 2 | 650 | Former federal executive officials |
13 | 2 | 86 | U.S. Senators |
17 | 2 | 2 | Former federal judicial officials |
18 | 2 | 292 | State, territorial, and tribal executive officials |
39 | 2 | 10 | State, territorial, and tribal judicial officials |
42 | 2 | 161 | Municipal and local officials |
55 | 2 | 29 | Party officials |
63 | 2 | 18 | Other 2020 candidates |
64 | 2 | 131 | International officials |
77 | 2 | 155 | Academics and scholars |
78 | 2 | 224 | Activists and public figures |
79 | 2 | 98 | Business executives and leaders |
index | level | count | name |
---|---|---|---|
2 | 3 | 3 | Presidents |
3 | 3 | 2 | Vice Presidents |
4 | 3 | 76 | Cabinet-level officials |
5 | 3 | 263 | State Department officials |
6 | 4 | 190 | U.S. Ambassadors |
7 | 3 | 142 | Defense Department officials |
8 | 3 | 56 | Justice Department officials |
9 | 3 | 10 | Homeland Security Department officials |
10 | 3 | 6 | Energy Department officials |
11 | 3 | 49 | White House officials |
12 | 3 | 43 | Other Executive Branch officials |
13 | 2 | 86 | U.S. Senators |
17 | 2 | 2 | Former federal judicial officials |
These may help us decide how to split further. It looks as if splitting federal-level officials would be a possibility. Number of entries is not the only criterion, since some sublists have far more detail for each entry than others. I like @Ucimatty:'s suggestion of distinguishing primary-contest endorsements from the main contest ones: they have a different significance in any case, and party-member endorsements for the selected candidate are not independent. Sorting the entries like that may be rather a lot of work though. --Mirokado (talk) 22:59, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- Picking this back up: I'd still like to see Academics, Activists, and Executives split off (either together or separately). That's another 120k or so.
- Then maybe we can do something about the questionable international section (the former mayor of Bogota? Really?) pauli133 (talk) 13:34, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
