– Many state highways in Kentucky numbered 500 and higher are considered either rural secondary or supplemental. I propose to rename these articles more broadly and allow any highway not important enough for its own individual article to be placed on these pages using Template:Infobox road small. Afterwards, the articles List of state highways in Kentucky (1000–1999), List of state highways in Kentucky (2000–2999), and List of state highways in Kentucky (3000–5999) would be deleted to be replaced by the aforementioned articles. • Oppose per confusion of purpose:
    • The purpose of the List of Kentucky supplemental roads and rural secondary highways (X–Y) lists is to contain rural secondary or supplemental highways. These classes of highways are not important enough for their own individual articles. In fact, most of these lists comprise content merged into lists from articles about rural secondary or supplemental highways that were stub-class or start-class. These lists include prose that would not neatly fit into tables.
    • The purpose of the List of state highways in Kentucky (X–Y) lists is to hold tables of information about all Kentucky state-numbered highways. These tables would include the state primary and state secondary highways, routes that deserve their own articles. Eventually, tables will be created for all ranges of numbers, and those tables will be combined into one master table at List of state highways in Kentucky. Tables are good for succinct information like mileage and have the option of sorting.  V 02:59, 8 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Splitting proposal

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to split. Matthewshill (talk) 14:22, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I propose that sections containing state highways in the 600s, 700s, 800s, and 900s be split into separate pages called List of Kentucky supplemental roads and rural secondary highways (600-699), List of Kentucky supplemental roads and rural secondary highways (700-799), List of Kentucky supplemental roads and rural secondary highways (800-899), and List of Kentucky supplemental roads and rural secondary highways (900-999) respectively. Thereafter, the current article would be renamed List of Kentucky supplemental roads and rural secondary highways (500-599).

Today, I became aware of a unique problem relating to how many files can be generated on a Wikipedia page, in this case route shields. As it currently exists, all route shields past Kentucky Route 617 do not generate. I inquired of the issue at Wikipedia:Teahouse, and there was a consensus that the article needs to be split. You are more than welcome to view the discussion here. Matthewshill (talk) 02:03, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Partial Support. You're on the right track on why the files aren't showing. There's no limit to how many files can be on any one page, nor is there a template limit (per se). There is an expensive template limit, of which {{Jct}} is a grievous offender. On lists like these, you should really ask yourself if a junction list is necessary at all. Some say yes, I personally say no. So from a technical standpoint, I support splitting this page into five lists. From an editorial standpoint, I say scrap the junction lists and move on to more important issues. –Fredddie 03:12, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
