Title

edit

I wonder if the title implies it includes LGBT acronyms for specific experiences, such as women who have sex with women (WSW) or same gender loving (SGL), or gay–straight alliance (GSA/SAGA). SAGA, for example, is used in a way for community. --MikutoH talk! 22:20, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think the title suggests that this list is inclusive of any acronym related to LGBT topics. So those would be appropriate additions. Rublamb (talk) 22:23, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

List of LGBT-related acronymsList of LGBT acronyms – Would this fit better? Or add "variants" to it could improve? --MikutoH talk! 23:32, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Mathglot: tagging as discussed in WT:LGBT. --MikutoH talk! 23:38, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. Part of me feels the "related" is implied, but part of me feels as though to remove it implies that related acronyms are no longer appropriate for inclusion. I also feel as though the realm of non-heteronormativity has deepened/expanded to the point that to remove the "related" might read as offensive to some. What are the arguments in favor of making this change (presumably there are some or this wouldn't have been proposed to begin with)? DonIago (talk) 13:02, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Move: Naming guidelines can be found at WP:CRITERIA. One of those naming criteria is Precision. My quick review indicates that this list is LGBTQ+ acronyms, rather than related terms. Thus, the proposed article name would be more precise. The criteria also call for Concision, specifying that "the title is no longer than necessary to identify the article's subject and distinguish it from other subjects." The new name would be more concise, yet still recognizable. The naming criteria also looks for Consistency, meaning that selected titles are "consistent with the pattern of similar articles' titles." My quick search indicates that the term "related" is rarely used in the name of list articles. As @Doniago indicates, "related" in implied. Rublamb (talk) 20:02, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Move: Just now I was looking for this page and was confused when I couldn't find it after putting "LGBT acronyms" in the search bar. I don't think the word "variants" should be added to the title though if that's what you're referring to. I recently added some acronyms like SGL (same gender loving) and TGE (trans and gender expansive), so I think LGBT acronym variants would be confusing since I would think it's only for variations of LGBT ( LGBTQ, LGBTQIA, etc.). I think LGBT acronyms is fine though since it's acronyms relevant to the LGBT community rather than just variants of LGBT. Plus we can always add a redirect for "LGBT related acronyms" if need be, but I think one will be automatically made with the move.

Gender affirming care acronyms

edit

Would acronyms for aspects of gender affirming care such as FFS (facial feminization surgery) or GAHT (gender-affirming hormone therapy) be applicable for this list? They primarily describe treatments used by transgender people. Urchincrawler (talk) 19:04, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Urchincrawler I think they are within scope. As well as AGABs. --MikutoH talk! 23:25, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok you got it. Urchincrawler (talk) 21:51, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think if we expand it in this scope, we may want to sectionize this though.
Like create a section for terms and alternatives for LGBTQIA+ acronyms (which the currently list has been so far) per the current description of the list being This page lists common and notable acronyms[a] that refer to or include the LGBT community or part of it.
And then another separate section for terms related, such as the ones you added.
We should however also be very clear on what the scope of such related terms should be (since we just had the move discussion to remove "related" from the title as Wikipedia is not a dictionary and that we do have the other article LGBT slang that has a lot of terms that may otherwise also creep into this article here if we don't have a clear separation to avoid WP:OVERLAP. Raladic (talk) 22:07, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sure, we could break it into sections. Maybe LGBT community variants/alternatives (LGBTQIA, GLBT, SOGI, MOGAI, etc), same sex attraction acronyms (SGL, WLW, MSM, etc.), and sex and gender centered terms (AGAB, TGNC, FTM, NB, etc.) If need be we could add an "other" section for anything not covered in those sections. Kink is not part of the community

edit

The LGBTQIAPK acronym and its variants should be removed because kink is not part of the community neither is polyamory which some people say the P is for. LGBTQIA means anything not inherently cisgender or straight and anyone can do polyamory or kinks if they want therefore it’s not part of the community because polyamory and kinks are choices. DarknessGoth777 (talk) 19:49, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

The acronyms appear to be well-sourced. Unless you have strong sources arguing against them, I don't see why they should be removed. DonIago (talk) 20:08, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's your POV. You entirely missed the point of this list. There's isn't a monolithic community. Some include, others don't. And Wikipedia is not censored. You already tried to remove kink from a lot of LGBTQ pages and failed many. --MikutoH talk! 22:17, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
