editShould the "Novels" list be merged in to the following table? I'm confused at the two things. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 15:35, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- The poor formatting at the moment is the result of merging tables and lists from 2 articles. I'll fix it up once Homosexuality in SF is FA :-)Yobmod (talk) 10:15, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Merge
editWanted to ask peoples' opinions on merging this with the lesbian list of gay (male) SF. The merging of the articles caused some dissent from people that think lesbian SF is significantely different.
A merged list would have a possility of becoming a featured list (i asked there), and i'm willing to do the work. The split lists cannot become featured lists, as many reliable sources for LGBT science fiction do not distinguish whether it is gay or lesbian. Eg. Winning a Lambda literary award would be a source for LGBT SF, but not for the current split lists.
A combined list could have a notes section that would identify if the main characters etc were gay or lesbian, and would allow the hitory of inclusion to be seen. I know gay authors (eg Thomas Disch) are influenced by lesbian authors (Joanna Russ), so listing them together let such development be shown.Yobmod (talk) 09:19, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Note, making a merged featured list but keeping this lesbian list would prevent us ever making a featured topic out of this (i asked there too), my ultimate aim (6 lists/articles done so far).Yobmod (talk) 09:21, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Please discuss at List of lesbian science fiction, thanks! DoneYobMod 16:06, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Drastically updating
editI'm attempting to reformat and drastically expand this entry. Collapsed the different categories of novels into one list (since a lot of times a novel with gay characters will have bisexual characters etc), and when I made the list I prioritized including some novels over others. Will continue to go back and add more (as well as update the list to add dates to the entries that don't have dates).
Made a table for short stories as well, right now this list is RIDICULOUSLY short, since this is basically "what can i think of off the top of my head." Way more sf short stories w/ queer themes and characters, will be continuously adding more.
I'm also not fond of the descriptive summary text at the top of the page, since I don't think it really is representative of the content of the article? And also it used to have air quotes around "gay" and "lesbian" etc. Open to suggestions on how to improve.
Just wanted to leave this note since I changed so much. Will probably make a table for the anthologies as well, since the list as-is sort of makes your eyes glaze over. MSK 00:57, 18 November 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meagansk (talk • contribs)

Criteria
editThere is a vast amount of LGBT-themed fic out there, more than one might think, especially with way that the Internet has facilitated self-publishing. I don't think we can reasonably attempt to list it all, and propose that we limit it to notable items — that is, where either the title, the author, or both, is bluelinked. Anyone object? DS (talk) 01:35, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, if there's no objections within the next three days, I'll add an editnotice and remove all entries which do not meet the above criteria. DS (talk) 12:28, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- There have been no objections. I will now remove every list entry which is neither bluelinked, part of a bluelinked series or anthology, or by a bluelinked author. I will also include a note explaining why this is being done. DS (talk) 20:27, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
- Oops, extra criterion - if it's mentioned in reliable tertiary sources, like Garber and Paleo's "Uranian Worlds". DS (talk) 20:31, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
