Canadian Small Talk Moment

That's not a variation of the sketch, but rather the normal sketch with the topic being Canada. Therefore, I'm removing it, and I'll keep it here for now.

• A variation of this sketch- called The Canadian Small Talk Moment- ran when O'Brien took his show to Toronto for a week in February. The topics were items in Canadian news at the time and Canadian culture at large, referencing types such as Don Cherry and Pierre Pettigrew.

I'm pretty sure this was the first ever of the small talk moments. All others were variations on this one, but now the generic 'small talk moment' has become the primary sketch. TheHYPO 11:38, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Notable Fake Celebrity Interviews

The only F.C.I. where the TV did not come down from the ceiling occured in August or September 1998, when Bill Clinton publicly admitted to misleading the American people and that he had had an "inappropriate" relationship with Monica Lewinsky in the Lewinsky Scandal.

The TV stayed up near the ceiling while Conan conducted the F.C.I. This was a fundamental part of the comedy bit, showing Fake-Clinton uncharacteristicly shying away from showing himself publicly.

This bit had a callback later in the episode, when Conan brought out one of his real guests, Traci Lords (a notorious porn actress). The TV monitor, with Fake-Clinton on it, came down with Fake-Clinton screaming his tagline "Yee-Ha!"

Another memorable F.C.I. was with Al Gore right after the disputed 2000 U.S. Presidential Election when Gore had retracted his initial concession of the election to George W. Bush. Conan asked Fake-Gore about the propriety of retracting his concession.

Fake-Gore: "Retraction can be a good thing. For example, 'You're a douchebag!'"

Conan: "WHAT?"

Fake-Gore: "I retract that."

Lever of Tragedy

What about the Lever of Tragedy from the first few seasons, when Conan was still niche? It was somehow part of his deal with NBC to keep a "late night" show (so Conan explained), at the end he had to pull the aforementioned Lever, and an audience member would die. One I remember is "does cuteness overcome evil?" or something like that. Basically they'd have a scene about a Nazi rally, Charles Manson's cult, etc where the characters are all played by adorable puppies or kittens. Kind of an experiment to see if the scene would still be disturbing or imply evil. The recent "evil puppy" character almost seems like a call-back to the idea, but perhaps that's not intentional.--T. Further clarification, and question

First of all, like the list of characters article, are we listing every sketch that has every been aired, or just recurring sketches? Because every remote (conan goes to bartending school, santa school, truck driving school, shops for ties, visits apple orchard with mr. T, etc.) could be its own sketch if you're listing every unique sketch.

I think that potentially we could further divide the sketches. as first act bits (bits done right after the monologue, like actual items) and fourth act bits (bits done in the fourth act where Conan usually lists the next night's guests, like the salesman, the crooner, etc.) There are sometimes crossover bits that are in both (like celebrity secrets), but these can either be listed as "either" or listed where they usually occur - usually a fourth act bit for celebrity secrets. Article title

If this article is going to branch out from Sketches to monologue digressions (which are NOT sketches) or other misc. stuff, I believe the title has to look at changing, or else non-sketches have to go. If you look at this stuff, almost all of it is already in the Late Night article under Comedy and Mannerisms. My belief is that all the stuff from there and from the non-sketch sections of this article belong in a third article, Comedy and Mannerisms on Late Night with Conan O'Brien or something of the like. Don't bother. NBC notoreously is rigorous with their forcing NBC show videos off youtube and google video. They don't want their clips up there. TheHYPO 03:50, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Inappropriate

Was this ever a standalone sketch? I know it was originally from the Satellite TV segment on Clive Clemmons' (I believe his name was - something like that) Inappropriate Channel. Was it ever offered as a standalone sketch? Otherwise it might be due as a sub-heading under Satellite TV (there might be other channels that recurred that could go as subheadings as well) TheHYPO 02:05, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Repeating?

I should note that this page and the Characters from Late Night page are starting to feature notable overlap. A sketch like Ballpark Chanter which is based around one character basically is repeating the entire description of the sketch on both pages. This feels like redundancy. I don't think "fun hole guy" is a sketch - he's a character who usually appears as a brief portion of a segment, but he's not in itself a sketch TheHYPO 09:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Pimpbot 5000

Any information of Pimpbot 5000, I know from my viewings,that it is the same serial movie style robot as Satan's Robot in the Captain Proton bits on Voyager and was also used in previous bits such as Robot sitting on a Toilet and The Chasidic robot who appeared on the 13th anniversay of Late night. Inappropriate Band Member Comments

I noted a few weeks ago a few nights the sketch 'Inappropriate Band Member Comments' (not entirely sure of the name). The premise of the sketch was that musicians often make comments in the media to attract publicity, so the Max Weinberg 7 went through and made strange and bizzare claims. The sketch would end by cutting to Joel, who would make an exceptionally strange comment, before saying "Isnt this 'Things the announcer has to tell himself in order to make it through each day?" Dirty Dancing

I remember Conan repeatedly calling for the re-release of the movie Dirty Dancing, saying it was the best movie of all time. ("Nobody puts Baby in the corner!") Pinky Toe

Fire pilots who are polka dotted

I seem to remember a recurring sketch with a song about some fetuses who were fire pilots and polka dotted. This was during the mid 1990's. I don't think I dreamt it. Shouldn't someone start a page titled "List of sketches from the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" and just add to it? Shark96z (talk) 22:42, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

The article has been renamed List of Conan O'Brien sketches to reflect O'Brien's move to The Tonight Show and the fact that some of the sketches have been carried over from Late Night with Conan O'Brien. SigKauffman (talk) 09:31, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Isn't this a bit too detailed?

I'm getting used to the idea that every single episode of every single TV show ever produced is notable, but isn't this getting too detailed? If Conan's run on The Tonight Show is as long as Jay's then we are going to end up with an article that is just too long to be useful, even at one line per sketch. For now, I would just keep it the way it is, but if Conan introduces more sketches that feels it's going to stay for long time, then it's time to start a new page dedicated to just the "Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien". This way, the articles stay clean and focused. Another thing, I might considering shortening some of the articles, since it is starting to feel too long, and maybe bit too much detailed. Present tense

The Late Night sketches are still written in the present tense: "Conan does this..." or "This is what now happens...". Need to be made past tense. DJ Clayworth (talk) 14:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Sketches introduced on The Tonight Show

I'm hesitant to delete anything, but should every sketch really be on there? As it stands now, most of them were only featured on the show a single time. Until they're repeated, that section seems longer than it's needed. I think most (as of now, everything except Twitter Tracker, Tabloid Moment, Wax Fonzie/Tom Cruise, Traffic Coptor, and Andy'll Try It) should be removed. --Evildevil (talk) 17:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I am also hesitant to remove part of the edits, but I am also hesitant to add new sketches onto the article, since I don't know whether the sketches would stay for long period of time, or sketches will be cut from further episodes. The best bet, I think, is to wait a while, and if the sketches are repeated frequently, I would add it to the page. If the sketches appear for one time, and does not repeat, let's not add.

I also think if the sketches that used to appear frequently no longer appears very frequently, I might move those to the former sketches section of the article. It's a wait and see thing.... Bentoman (talk)

I have been updating this section to include every recurring sketch introduced thus far on the Tonight Show. That is, every sketch to have appeared at least twice. I feel this will be much appreciated in the future when people are looking to read about sketches they may not remember clearly. The section is already quite long, and will only become longer. Awkward Vampire

I seem to remember a bit with an awkward vampire, who would start to go for Conan's neck when he wasn't looking, but would get too excited and thus drawing the attention of Conan who would ask what he was doing? The character's behavior and physical appearance reminds me a bit of Harold Green from The Red Green Show, except dressed like a vampire.

I feel this character should be added to the Other sketches section, however, I have only the fore mentioned memory, which I don't feel is enough information for the addition. If someone can provide more information, I think we'd all appreciate it. Thank you.

Missing sketches

I used to work for the show Late Night and this is a pretty good list of shows and characters, but we had a lot more that could be included like “Kids’ Drawings” and regular characters such as Robot on the Toilet and the Gaseous Wiener, to name a few.
