Map

The dots on the map are rendering wrong for me, shifted to the west with three out-of-state. Viewing the template is fine, but something about that table in the article breaks it. (using Firefox) Chris857 (talk) 16:27, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

It displays correctly on Chrome, however. Chris857 (talk) 01:53, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've corrected the issue, as it appeared on every browser now. Michael miceli (talk) 16:29, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Article accuracy

edit
The article is listed as a "featured list". The opening sentence states, "The state of Louisiana has 38 state parks". The "Current parks" section lists 21 state parks and the "Other names of current parks" section (that really should be a subsection) lists four state parks for a total of 25. This is at odds with the 38 listed. -- Otr500 (talk) 23:55, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Good observation, the source for the sentence is the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation, & Tourism, but the sentence says "Louisiana's 38 State Parks, Historic Sites and Preservation Area offer you and your family a uniquely rewarding experience of our state's natural beauty and historical riches.". So the 38 number is including things that aren't state parks. Looking through the official list, there are only 21 state parks, which matches this list (excluding your recently added "White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area"). I will update that number.
I see that you added "White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area", which isn't a state park, but rather a conservation area managed by the department of wildlife and fisheries. I believe this link should be removed from the list. It is correctly included in the Template:Protected_areas_of_Louisiana under State Wildlife Refuges. I've just updated that template to wikilink to the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area page you started.

Note: 22 state parks now. -- Otr500 (talk) 00:00, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Parks to be added

edit

Other names of current parks

edit
The section proclaims: "The following are significantly different former or alternate names for current Louisiana state parks."
Does someone know the rationale behind the naming of the section? -- Otr500 (talk) 19:44, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Otr500, it was just a way to highlight older names of parks that still exist. The history of the state parks was complicated and during the standardization of state parks many parks were renamed. Vermiceli (talk) 23:28, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I felt the confusion and complication. Due to the rewrite history movement more of the historical locations, and likely some parks, will certainly be renamed. All of them are under the "Parks" classification.
There are the 17 sites under List of Louisiana state historic sites (Louisiana historic sites) so we have some dual classifications 1)- parks preserves and, 2)- state historic sites. The two classifications can also be included in a third. The national parks article gives some insight into multi-classifications.
Basically, some reorganizing to account for the different classifications is needed. The article is classified as A featured list and a goal is to not make edits that might change this, so references are crucial. The Other names of current parks can be edited out and the parks listed under the current name such as Jimmie Davis State Park. The previous name, Caney Creek Lake State Park, should be in the notes section in this article. Alternate names should be in bold in the lead of any article. The previous name of "Big Lake" is in the "History" section. Calcasieu Lake is still recognized in many areas of Louisiana as Big Lake. Real estate companies or sites like Redfin list "Calcasieu Parish, LA Waterfront Homes for Sale" with the wording " Consider this gorgeous waterfront home located on Big Lake (aka Calcasieu Lake) in Lake Charles, Louisiana". "Big Lake" is listed in the second paragraph of the article Calcasieu lake. Again, thanks for the reply and info, -- Otr500 (talk) 04:47, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
