List of Inactive Wings
editHow about List of inactive Wings of the United States Air Force? --Pmsyyz (talk) 03:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- There's already a List of Inactive AFCON Wings of the United States Air Force, so there's two pages to consider. Buckshot06 (talk) 03:48, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Usually I'm for consolidation, but to the layman there's little difference between an AFCON and MAJCOM-controlled wing. Also, this MAJCOM list has a probablility of becoming larger than needed, if combined with the AFCON list (over XX kilobytes)... Just a thought. TDRSS (talk) 13:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- With regard to this list, that would be redundant, since all MAJCON wings are now inactive.--Lineagegeek (talk) 10:16, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Notes
edit- 24th Wing formed November 1967 in the Panama Canal Zone, replacing the 5700th Air Base Wing
The 6541st Missile Test Wing was activated with nine squadrons numbered consecutively 6541st through 6549th. Those squadrons were created to operate range tracking systems on the Eastern Range's mainland and downrange stations. The 6548th and 6549th Missile Test Squadrons were discontinued on 25 November 1951, but the remaining seven squadrons were deployed between the Cape and Grand Turk by the end of 1952.* They were re-designated as operations squadrons when the 6541st Missile Test Wing became the 6541st Operations Group on 1 March 1953.

Red Links
editMost entries on this list are red links. Based on notability, I would think most of these wings would never qualify for an article. If these links do nothing but increase the size of the article on the server, would it not be better to remove them?--Lineagegeek (talk) 10:07, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- I have generally done this now, although in a few cases, links have turned blue by creating redirect pages.--Lineagegeek (talk) 14:59, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
(Incomplete)
editI have removed the (incomplete) from the introduction to the article. Although there are certainly some omissions and room for edits of specific information or additions of references, I believe it now reasonably covers the issue. There remain a handful (fewer than 10) whose entries need some editing before the under construction tag can be removed. For future discussion:
- There are a handful of wings concerning which I found insufficient information to include. If anyone can find sources, they should be included. Many are short-lived reserve units. In
19521949 CONAC formed at least two Technical Training Wings,(8602d and 8605th): in 1948, it formed at least three additional Volunteer Air Reserve Training Wings (9013th, 9048th, 9049th)' and I believe in 1957 an additional Air Reserve Training Wing (2598th). There may also have been an active duty CONAC 2200th ABW.
- Has the list become too long and the page slow to load? If so, is there a reasonable way to split the page? The most apparent way to do this would be by Major Air Command, but some commands only have a couple of entries, while others have dozens.--Lineagegeek (talk) 14:59, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
3090 Wing
editThe 3090th Air Depot Wing was formed at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH as a rear headquarters for the logistical buildup in Spain. Does anyone know if it moved to Madrid and was redesignated the 3090th Support Wing, or was it discontinued at Wright Patterson and these are two separate units?--Lineagegeek (talk) 14:35, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Replacement of Current Section
editI would propose replacing the current section titled MAJCON Wings with the following text. Comments, changes, etc. are welcome:

- Endorse suggested changes. In accordance with WP:BOLD, you may not have to ask for such changes to be approved. Only thing I'm keen to keep format-wise about this page is the listing in numerical order, which allows you to look up them by number. Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 22:01, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
