Umpire links
editI was going to correctly link many of these umpires, but I will wait if you were going to do that when you were finished. Is this list including the 19th century umpires? By the way, I like the new changes. Neonblak (talk) 03:14, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
D or T?
editI have a Chicago Tribune article listing a veteran umpire in 1939 as Emmett D. Ormsby. The listing in this article gives his name as Emmett T. Ormsby. Not sure which is correct. LonelyBeacon (talk) 04:30, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- According to Retrosheet, his middle initial is T. Retrosheet is pretty reliable information, so I would assume this is his official name.Neonblak talk - 17:50, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Not complete
editJerry and Shag Crawford, Tom Connolly, and others are missing from this list. —Sesel (talk) 18:52, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Also Phil Cuzzi. - Bbny-wiki-editor (talk) 04:13, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
So is Eric Gregg.Mab819c (talk) 05:19, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- All of the above have been added. To make this a manageable list, I still think it wouldn't be a bad idea to remove umpires who don't meet WP:BASE/N #5 (such as strike replacement umpires, reserve umpires from AAA and players who filled in as umpires for a few games). Table formatting -- blank entries
editThe blank entries in the name column should be fixed. It's not immediately obvious that a blank entry is another entry for the umpire named above. The unpire should be named twice or the two lines should be combined into one. 72.177.123.145 (talk) 02:20, 28 March 2013 (UTC) Eric
To Do List
editThere are numerous problems with the article. To help with the improvement, I am creating a to do list below to be collaboratively worked on:
- Completing the list
- Completely sourcing the list
- Fixing the problem of empty name blanks
- Verifying the information
- Adding images on the right side of the page
- Fix table sorting to sort the complete table table not just letters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.34.7 (talk) 17:01, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
Please feel free to add to the above. AutomaticStrikeout ? 19:37, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- That third one may be easy to fix. Is it possible to just make it so that the cell in the Name column just covers multiple rows? TCN7JM 21:24, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know and even if the answer is yes, that might look a bit odd. AutomaticStrikeout ? 21:59, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- Time to use USRD as a reference point again. Go to any road article and look at the junction list. Cells in the County and Location columns will oftentimes cover more than one row. I think that can apply here, too. TCN7JM 23:58, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, maybe it is a reasonable suggestion. It would be better than what we have now, anyway. AutomaticStrikeout ? 00:18, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

- Would it help to pare down the list to a more manageable number? I notice that the list includes some players who filled in for a game or two during their playing careers. I think that there are also some strike replacement umps. Would it be reasonable to remove people whose umpiring careers wouldn't really meet WP:BASE/N, i.e. service on a regular league staff? EricEnfermero Howdy! 06:13, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- Possibly, but finding a good criteria for exclusion might be hard. AutomaticStrikeout ? 13:55, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
Charles Maddox =/= Charles Manson
editThe link concerning an umpire called Charles Maddox is getting redirected to the "Charles Manson"-page. Charles Manson was born 1934, but the Charles Maddox in this list was an umpire in 1882. So this is obviously an error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.146.79.243 (talk) 07:54, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
Updating Game Counts through 2020
editWould anyone like to help me update game counts for current umpires? I will continue to do it as I have time. I have not yet started but will keep this section updated as I do. Claffeylp (talk) 17:15, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
I had much more time than I thought and have completed the update of game counts through 2020. As I was doing that, I have found that there are many missing umpires in all parts of this list. I will continue to add them as I have time. 2020 was an abnormal year for baseball, and many more umpires made their debuts than any other year (it seems). I've indicated all of those umpires as active, and we will go from there in the future. Claffeylp (talk) 16:25, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Capitalization error of article title gives different meaning
editThere is a difference between baseball umpire in a major league and an umpire in Major League Baseball. The current title List of Major League Baseball umpires indicates they are all MLB umps, whih they are not. Therefore, rhe article should me moved to List of major leagues baseball umpires or similar. Senator2029 【talk】 22:36, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
