Billboard Awards

edit

Why are the Billboard awards not listed here? There are 42 Billboard awards missing alone. Please don’t confuse the Billboard Awards with the Billboard Music Awards. The only difference is that one was televised and the other wasn’t. I see them listed for other artists like Madonna, I can see the awards for every year listed on Billboard’s website [here is the list for 1983]. I can see Wikipedia articles about the awards, so why aren’t they listed here? From 1979 - 1983 there are approximately 44 awards missing just in that 5 year period. Awards from Cashbox, Billboard, RollingStones Magazine, and NAACP Image Awards. This included awards in USA, Australia, Brazil, Holland, Italy, Japan, Spain, and the UK. I see where these awards were removed based with no edit summary and based on opinion and and not any guidelines. What are the rules for adding awards? Obviously it needs to be sourced, that’s the easy part. What are the other rules?TruthGuardians (talk) 01:31, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Here is a talk page archive regarding how awards on the wiki work. If the awards like you mentioned are listed on pages like Madonna, then I reckon the awards would be notable as her page is one of the few featured on the list related to awards.— TheWikiholic (talk) 15:11, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes they are listed as “Billboard number ones” awards on her page. Those awards were the exact same awards removed from this page. Here are the 1983 Billboard (Number Ones) Awards. 1) Pop artist of the year, 2) Black artist of the year, 3) Pop album of the year, 4) pop album artist, 5) pop male album, 6) pop male singles, 7) black album artist, 8) black singles artist, 9) black album, 10) disco/dance artist, 11) Dance/Disco 12" LP Billie Jean, and 12) Dance/Disco 12" LP Beat it. Here are the sources that reports on these, one of which is the exact source they used on Madonna’s page: 1) [1] 2) [2] 3) [3] If it’s good enough to be there on Madonna’s page, then it’s good enough to be here as well. The question is, since there is going to be over 40 of these, do we create a new section or add to “Other Awards?” I say create a new section, similar to how it is on Madonna’s article. Can you please continue to list those missing awards with references? I will add those awards to the page when I get free time.— TheWikiholic (talk) 17:06, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes. I also think the outline of this page should match that of other artists like Swift, Gaga, and Madonna. The lead needs to be expanded and I will expand after getting these awards fixed and outline of the page too. TruthGuardians (talk) 17:17, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

So I’ve taken the time to focus on the Billboard and Cashbox awards only. You will find the awards and the sources below. I chose not to add the RollingStones awards because they appear to be fan poll type of awards and I’m not so sure that should count. Nonetheless, here are 31 awards needing to be added:

Billboard Year-End charts should not be included here, unless they were explicitly presented as "awards". Billboard Number One Awards existed between 1974 and 1989, before being replaced by Billboard Music Awards. So, the 1972 year-end you listed above does not count here. Also listicles (such as the ones by Rolling Stone) are not awards, gold/platinum certifications are also excluded from award pages. Bluesatellite (talk) 04:48, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I see. I will delete the 1972 inclusion now. I come to realize what you are saying about RollingStones, that’s why I chose to keep it excluded. Also it just looked like a readers/fan type of thing.
After further searching, I found that the very first Billboard Number One Awards was held in August 1972, honoring the top artists of the previous year (1971).source Therefore, I assume that Michel did receive the same trophies for his number-one performances on the 1972 year-end charts. Remove the red links of Lunar Republic Society, the United World Karate Association and Barbados music awards in the 25 reference! 2804:1B3:9601:37FD:A599:29E6:5980:1205 (talk) 03:11, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@toadirl Struggling to find a way to get this through. It's also worth noting the browser crashes. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 11:14, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
