Question from GrammarAsh (03:34, 14 September 2024)

edit

Hi! It's cool that Wikipedia assigns mentors to new users, I didn't know that was a thing. I'm looking at an article that I think could use some cleaning up: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin-film_equation) In the "Properties" section, the first paragraph is made up of four sentences that all end with footnote numbers, where the sentences don't sound correct when read aloud. It seems like the intention of the original author was to include the names of these external sources and then use the footnote numbers to link them to the References section, but only the footnote numbers were included, and not a name of the journal or paper. I'm also not sure if this paragraph fits with the manual of style, as it seems to just be a way of shortening the article by assuming that readers will follow those external links if they are interested in those topics, rather than simply including the sources in the "Further reading" section. I feel like if an external source has information valuable enough to include in the article itself, then that information should at least be summarized in a way that connects its concepts to the main topic. If I decided to spend my time doing that, however, it would require reading five articles from scientific journals in a field of mathematics that I've never formally studied...it would take longer for me to do it than if the original author were to summarize them. If I don't want to go through all of that, I might use an internal link and name the scientific journals that these papers were published in. I still feel like that would just be perpetuating the issue of "these should just be external links listed at the end of the article". I don't think I'll make my edit just yet, since I feel like what really needs to happen with this article is to take that paragraph out, remove the footnote numbers, and convert their corresponding references into "Further reading" links. That feels like a pretty complex edit for me to be doing as my first. --GrammarAsh (talk) 03:34, 14 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry that I was late to respond, I am really lazy on weekends and holidays, which this monday is. I don't get your intention here. Are you asking me to do an edit, or are you asking me how to do an edit? ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 23:08, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey no worries! I realize my question was a little bit too flow-of-consciousness for a question, as I was kind of just looking for a way to say hi and also summarize my train of thought on this edit I was doing myself, and maybe asking for advice from you—I ended up deciding what to do, finishing up the formatting of it, and then quickly submitting the edit and going to bed when I realized it was getting late and I had an event to wake up early for the next day. Now that I look back, I think my edit was fine and I don't know why I was agonizing over it, lol. GrammarAsh (talk) 01:33, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Dominique Jackson (model), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fantasmas. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Mistaken claim of vandalism

edit

I posted a request on Sean Combs talk page, asking for some vandalism from another user to be removed, but somehow instead my request to have that removed was itself flagged as vandalism.

I was asking to have the text removed from the page which was added by:

01:52, 18 September 2024‎ Savant64 JackStrife17 (talk) 13:59, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sir, your request's title was "Sean Pedo Combs", which is already insulting, and that page doesn't exist. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 14:05, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're confusing me with the person (212.67.107.41) who edited the talk page AFTER me:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Sean_Combs&diff=prev&oldid=1246337662
Here is my request on the talk page, asking for someone to REMOVE the offensive wording, because I didn't have access:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Sean_Combs&diff=prev&oldid=1246292893
And this is the vandalism made by "Savant64" which I was asking to have REMOVED:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sean_Combs&diff=prev&oldid=1246292119
This is the first time I've ever gone out of my way to try and get vandalism REMOVED from a Wikipedia page, and instead I get chastised and falsely blamed for doing the vandalism myself. 🤷‍♂️ JackStrife17 (talk) 23:16, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@AlphaBetaGamma: You made a mistake, JackStrife17 was not the vandal and you probably owe them an apology. AusLondonder (talk) 16:58, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: Ah! So sorry to trout you, you are my new mentor. Nice to meet you! NovaNora (talk) 01:23, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Mchamlin (06:24, 23 September 2024)

edit

I found an article that needs citation. How can I add a citation that helps readers to know more about a topic? --Mchamlin (talk) 06:24, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Uhh, could you specify which article? There's Help:Referencing for beginners, but if you're adding one for a website, click on the "Cite" button on the Visual editor, and then click on the "Automatic" tab. Then, copy-paste the URL into the box and the tool will do everything for you. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 06:29, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question re: Frankenstein draft

edit

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback on the draft for the Frankenstein musical.

I have removed the two sources that you said were unreliable, and the one statement that was only supported by one of those sources. All of the other content in the page is supported by the other sources referenced. May I ask what else should be done to make the page worthy?

Thank you. EncreViolette (talk) 08:16, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Delete the empty sections? ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 14:24, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @AlphaBetaGamma, thanks for your review. Would it be possible to rename the article to "Draft:Milvus (vector database)" while I'm working on changes? Thanks! Alexandr Guzhva (talk) 17:00, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from 10ntee (14:33, 25 September 2024)

edit

Hello

How to add a picture on my page edits --10ntee (talk) 14:33, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Uhh, I don't understand what you want to ask about with that. You can add photos by taking them from commons and pasting the file name inside two sets of brackets. Here's an example:

Hope this helps. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 01:31, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

User Page Deletion

edit

I noticed that you nominated my user page's content for speedy deletion, citing a lack of sources and issues with notability. I appreciate your commitment to maintaining quality on Wikipedia. However, I would like to point out that I had been working on the page for less than 15 minutes at the time, and it is a user page rather than part of the mainspace. I have reliable sources that I plan to incorporate, and Wikipedia's guidelines suggest allowing users time to edit before considering deletion. I kindly ask that you refrain from nominating my user page for deletion in the future, as it is extremely premature.

Thank you for your understanding! Fashionista345 (talk) 01:26, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from MaahirSehgal (06:49, 29 September 2024)

edit

Hello sir, I am currently working on editing a film's Wikipedia article titled Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. There is a senior editor user:Krimuk2.0! I take knowledge from other Wikipedia film articles, and I take my time to edit the article, and the edits are genuine, not breaking any rules, guidelines, or anything; no one has objections with those edits. If something is there that needs to be corrected or improved, some senior editors come and do that, but he just comes and reverts all the edits. In fact, he indulges in edit wars with us all editors working on the project; he just reverts all our edits and keeps his own; if someone reverts his edit or makes changes to it, he reverts again and insults us. He is acting like he has ownership of that article. Many editors are not liking his writing for that article, and when we are like writing it in a format/pattern that has been followed/used in the other popular or similar film articles, he is calling it poor writing. Even when I write something accurate with proper citation, he reverts that. What should I do, sir? Can you please help out!? Can you please check that and please take some necessary actions and let us editors work on and contribute to that article/project freely. It is really becoming very disheartening when this happens, like there is a fear that all our time and work will be wasted, whatever we write or edit will be reverted by him. I don't know whether I should write this to you or not, seek help for this or not. I am sorry if this is wrong, sir, but if possible, please help sir, Thank you! --MaahirSehgal (talk) 06:49, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

There's always an option to seek consensus on the article's talk page. By the way, are you editing under multiple IP addresses? ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 07:25, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@AlphaBetaGamma Sir, I edit with both my mobile and my laptop, and sometimes on wifi and sometimes on mobile data. Is there any problem with it? Is it creating any issues? MaahirSehgal (talk) 12:27, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

It says there aren't enough reliable sources, but I've linked quite a few sources there and as references to the text. So, can you explain where to improve my article for reliable sources Scratchinghead (talk) 14:31, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
