Unclear news --Atamari (talk) 11:24, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- I see the problem. I used the following as my source: http://assembly.gov.gm/index.php/members/. It only lists the current NAMs, not necessarily those appointed in 2012, and also only lists three of the five nominated members, which is unhelpful. The ones it does mention are Lamin Saine, Seedy S.K. Njie and Babou Gaye Sonko. This source: http://gmstateofaffairs.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/parliament-retains-speaker-deputy.html is interesting as it lists all five, supposedly, who were appointed in 2012. Lamin Saine, Sainey Chatty, Seedy S. K. Njie, Aji Fatou Jeng and Babou Gaye Sonko. Bearing in mind, I can find no mention of Jeng in her NAM role besides the article that you linked, but that may mean she has been a very inactive NAM. Where Abdoulie Bojang and Fatou Mbye fit into this, I have no idea. Perhaps they don't have to be National Assembly Members to be appointed as Speaker or Deputy Speaker? - "Perhaps they don't have to be National Assembly Members to be appointed as Speaker or Deputy Speaker?" This was also unclear to me, but the first source says that they are once again appointed members. --Atamari (talk) 18:18, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- I search (in Allafrica.com for "nominate member National Assembly" after 29 March 2012) and found approximately 200 hits. Until November 2013 speaks they only about Lamin Saine, Seedy S.K. Njie and Babou Gaye Sonko (no another hits to Sainey Chatty and Aji Fatou Jeng ). And i found this sentence: "There are also five other members nominated by the President among them the Speaker, Hon. Abdoulie Bojang." --Atamari (talk) 21:27, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- I see. Well, I checked the constitution, which says in Section 93(1): "The Speaker of the National Assembly and the deputy Speaker shall be elected by the members of the Assembly from among the nominated members." So Abdoulie Bojang and Fatou Mbye must be National Assembly members. This leads me to believe that the reports about the appointment of Sainey Chatty and Aji Fatou Jeng were false and they weren't actually appointed. I think we can quite safely say that.
