Impressive
editMy compliments to the article creator on this article. It is very good. I think that this article is already very close to featured list calibre. Needs only a lead section, and sources for each rink. Resolute 22:46, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Neutral Sites?
editDo we want to include arenas, that were used during the neutral sites games in the early 90s? Also, other teams have played games in other cities over their histories, do they belong here? The best example of this I can think of is the Buffalo Sabres up until recently played a few games in Rochester each year. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 03:28, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- That's not necessary. -- ISLANDERS27 07:21, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- I would agree. One-offs are just that, and we risk seriously diluting the scope of this article. Resolute Lest We Forget 16:09, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like someone has added both the outdoor venues and neutral sites. Should we flush out the list (and change attendance to capacity) or delete them? Shootmaster 44 (talk) 23:21, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Images
editWas there a specific reason or criteria for the selection of these specific images? It seems very arbitrary or POV to include those particular arenas, and not the others. IMO, it should be either all (like List of current National Football League stadiums, or nothing. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (talk) 05:09, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- This is an article that myself and others have poked at over time, but is quite obviously incomplete at this point. The images currently included are, near as I can tell, completely random with no POV intended or implied. As such, I've restored them for the time being. Certainly the article can be updated to include all arenas for which we have pictures, and perhaps in time I will get around to something like that if nobody else does it first. Resolute 13:59, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- And, fwiw, I do quite like how it is done in the NFL list. Resolute 14:00, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Neutral Sites redux
editI just rewrote the neutral venues section, removing several of them that were clearly unsourced or vandalism (e.g. there were no international games in 2013). As of now, I have only limited it to regular season games. IMO, listing preseason venues will cause the list to become unwielding: in addition to any preseason games that have been played overseas and those sites awarded under the Kraft Hockeyville contest, the league annually holds several preseason games at neutral sites across Canada and the US (this preseason in September-early October 2015 is no exception, with at least nine neutral sites this month[1]). Brooklyn
editThere seems to be an editor who insists on putting New York City, New York instead of Brooklyn, NY. This has never been an issue before, as it is painfully obvious that the entire world refers to each borough by its own name, even though they are all technically part of NYC. If there would be some public consensus to this so that this editor will stop his disruptive reverting. Jdavi333 (talk) 22:06, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- We've discussed this a few times in a few places, though evidently not this article. But, no. We list the city, not the subdivision within the city. So it is New York City, not Brooklyn that matters here. Also, before you accuse others of "disruptively reverting" because you aren't getting your way, I suggest you read WP:BRD. Resolute 00:18, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with Jdavi333. Who have you discussed this with? Are you from NYC? Look at the page "List of Major League Baseball stadiums" and tell me the locations of Citi Field and Yankee Stadium in the table. Also, look at the "List of Major League Soccer stadiums" page and tell me the location where NYCFC plays. Roberto221 (talk) 10:55, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks Roberto221. I also searched around and found the page WP:USPLACE, while although not stated clearly seems to sound like what I was saying (in regards to the neighborhoods of NYC). Jdavi333 (talk) 15:40, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

- One needs to look at the Premier League with its 5 teams in London and where their stadiums are located. The individual pages say "****, London, UK". You have to be from NY to understand. New York, NY is Manhattan, Brooklyn, NY is Brooklyn, etc., separate identities. Never sent or received mail that said "New York City, NY". Roberto221 (talk) 21:24, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not the Premier League. Nor is it MLB. Nor, frankly, is Brooklyn special. On this table, we use the city for all teams. That includes both New York City teams, the Ottawa (Kanata) Senators, and formerly, the Glendale (Phoenix) Coyotes. Resolute 21:34, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

- Then we need to put this up for a discussion and vote Roberto221 (talk) 22:23, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware that the Senators arena wasn't in Ottawa proper but in another municipality. That should indeed be changed, Just as Glendale, AZ, while a suburb of Phoenix, is always refered to by itself. As a general rule it seems that if the arena/stadium is in the same municipality but a different neighborhood, then just the city is used (for example no one says that Citi Field is in Flushing, NY, everyone just calls it Queens, NY. But if there are several arenas/stadiums in one city, they are both in London, for example, even if they are used by differently named teams. Roberto221 said, it needs to be voted on by the entire WikiCommunity. Jdavi333 (talk) 23:19, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- Jdavi333, It was when it was first constructed. Ottawa merged with Kanata in 2001 so now it is in Ottawa, just like Brooklyn was annexed by NY. Roberto221 (talk) 01:13, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
- WP:HOCKEY prefers to use the city name. So we here go with New York City in this case. GoodDay (talk) 15:18, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
- We don't need to "put it up for a vote." It already has been, and on more than one occasion. That you two are unfamiliar with that vote isn't a crime, but it's a settled matter. If you want to revisit it, try Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names). Ravenswing 22:10, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
- As I mentioned in the discussion thread at Talk:National Hockey League#Home city for the Islanders, since Wikipedia is written for a global audience, it is more suitable to use the city name rather than that of an administrative unit. I am familiar with the usage by New Yorkers, and its relatively common adoption by many Americans and Canadians. In the interest of clarity for everyone not familiar with the borough structure, though, I feel it best to use the official municipality name. In the case of Gila River Arena, as it is in the city of Glendale, using Glendale is appropriate. The home of the Senators, on the other hand, is within the city of Ottawa, after it expanded by absorbing numerous suburbs. isaacl (talk) 08:30, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- Just my two cents, because I live in Ottawa; I think most people in Kanata still use Kanata in their addresses, much like people in Brooklyn would. If it was up to me, I'd be using Kanata in the articles for the Senators, but I realize I'm in the minority here on that one. The 2001 amalgamation only changed the official boundaries, not what people call places in the local vernacular.-- Earl Andrew - talk 14:30, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- As I mentioned in the other thread, to ease the transition, the city of Ottawa did not ask Canada Post to change its mapping of the affected postal codes to "Ottawa", and as far as I know, still hasn't. Thus the mailing addresses have remained the same as pre-amalgamation. In New York City, there are further administrative names below the borough level that get used in mailing addresses, such as "Flushing". All cities have colloquial names for different areas, sometimes commonly used by everyone who lives there or nearby but unknown even to others in the same city. Accordingly, I think the best place for these nuances are within article text; the straightforward approach for tables such as these is to use the actual city names. isaacl (talk) 23:37, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Newest Arena
editThere seems to be some confusion here. There can only be 1 NEWEST stadium/arena. Little Caesar's is it. T Mobile Arena opened in 2016. In other similar articles, the caption only lists the newest stadium/arena, even if an older on is beginning use at the same time. Jdavi333 (talk) 18:50, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
I think it should be different in this case because T-Mobile Arena is opening with a new expansion team -NetWitz- 18:54, 5 September 2017 (UTC)NetWitz
- Yes. It isn't a new arena. Simple. Jdavi333 (talk) 19:01, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
It's new for NHL purposes, Barclays Center was listed as newest when the New York Islanders started using it.[[2]] -NetWitz- 19:06, 5 September 2017 (UTC)NetWitz
- At that time, it was also the newest arena in the league. It was built in 2012. Penguins Arena was built in 2010. Jdavi333 (talk) 19:12, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Alright, you've successfully made your point. Thank you @Jdavi333!!! -NetWitz- 19:26, 5 September 2017 (UTC)NetWitz
More neutral site arenas
editThere are plenty of other "neutral site" arenas from the 1990s that were used for regular season games...Copps Coliseum in Hamilton and Saskatchewan Place in Saskatoon, for example. And if you want to make it totally complete, there are some other arenas that the Blackhawks played in in the 1950s. I'm not sure if there is a good source anywhere - here is my own list, although I suppose that is not technically a reliable source... Adam Bishop (talk) 16:15, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Adam Bishop: If there are other neutral venues then add it yourself. You do not need to ask someone else to do the work for you. – Sabbatino (talk) 10:00, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Locations
edit@Sabbatino: Out of curiosity, what do you mean “names at the time of playing at the arenas are used“? SportsFan007 (talk) 22:46, 29 March 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007
- It should be clear what it means, but I can explain it. For example, the Hartford Whalers never played at XL Center as your edit suggests. They played there when the arena was known as Hartford Civic Center. Same goes for other teams. – Sabbatino (talk) 07:31, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
Former Arenas Table
editCan we move the former arenas table to a page called Former NHL Arenas? SportsFan007 (talk) 22:43, 3 October 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007
- @SportsFan007: The page is named "List of National Hockey League arenas" so all arenas are included here (current, future and past). – Sabbatino (talk) 08:58, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Interior images
editPlease, don't add the interior images. They only push the written info over to the right, too far & also, all 32 virtually look the same. GoodDay (talk) 16:09, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
Image for Scotiabank Arena
editThe current image being used in the list is one of the screen overlooking Maple Leaf Square, and it's not very interesting. I would suggest that we change it to the image of Legends Row that I'm including in this comment, which has more character and shows the name of the arena. Any thoughts about this? PKT(alk) 14:14, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- Doesn't show nearly enough of the arena. The current image is vastly superior for the purpose of showing the exterior as fully as possible. oknazevad (talk) 08:15, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Delta Center (Salt Lake City)
editI have an updated map for SLC. I'll release it once the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs are over since this is still the current 2023-24 NHL season.
