Table colors

Is there any reason why the "Nintendo" and "Console" colors are the exact same? These should be different so people who see this list (once it's in the mainspace) don't have to look further than the table to know which one it is. Gestrid (talk) 21:36, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

I just took the design from the PS4 game list. I'm indifferent to keeping it that way - the concepts are different, but relatively similar too. Whatever people want to do. Sergecross73 msg me 22:00, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
It should probably be different though, no real reason to have two separate things as the same color in a table. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:37, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Okay, that's fine. Go for it. Sergecross73 msg me 23:41, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Those two colors were the same because, in terms of exclusivity, they essentially denote the same thing. In the console space [insert title here] can only be found on this specific Nintendo [Console] or (plural) multiple [Nintendo] systems. — TPX 13:16, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
Would it be alright to use the colors from Template:Yes2 and Template:No2 since that people here seems to favor having different colors for 'Console' and 'Company'? Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 20:00, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
What is wrong with the color to denote Console exclusivity chosen on this page? It distinct and not too harsh on the eyes. I quite like it. — TPX 23:27, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
Can you try preview edit of another game list like List of Xbox One games with console as green cells to see if you still like it? It's pretty ugly to me than here. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 00:53, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
There's such a large number of table templates for coloring cells already that I'm certain we can find an existing template that will handle the job without creating a new one or using custom colors. {{optional}} or {{unofficial}} for example-- ferret (talk) 00:55, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
These new colors got along with red cells well in preview edit of List of Xbox One games. Below is what I've tried and actually like it.

A No
X Nintendo
Y Console
C Timed
B Yes
What about you?Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 01:21, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
The 'No' and 'Timed' cells are too similar and the 'Console' cell is nondistinct from white space. Can you explain what you think is wrong with the current color set on this list article for you to be wanting to change them? — TPX 11:04, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Colors for 'No' and 'Timed' are being "too similar"... yeah right... they got similar meanings don't they? Also your argument about the color of 'Console' camouflaged with white cells can be said exactly to 'Timed' cells in other game lists, and yet you complain about 'Timed' being given with darker red now? I don't get it. The yellow cells with red cells look gross. We have different taste I guess. I wanna ask you if you're fine with that new color set. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 17:57, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I'm happy with the color set on the main Switch page. These colors were chosen by Wikipedia editors long before I arrived here, so it's not as though I am defending something I myself implemented. They just work. It would be nice if you updated the template to incorporate the information so we have consistency across list articles. — TPX 19:52, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
I mean that color set shown above. You cool with it or not is all I wanna know. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 19:57, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
No, the color set above is terrible. I thought that would be obvious from my previous replies. — TPX 12:31, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
I was just making sure, since I can see that you're against Template:Yes2 and Template:No2 and wasn't exactly sure if you're still against the new colors as seen above. *sigh* we definitely have different tastes. What about gray colors? Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 21:19, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Is there any reason not to use text-less color sets from List of Wii U software? I know there's one user who's against this though, List of PlayStation 4 games was gonna have it but was quickly undone long time ago. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 15:12, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

I'm glad we are having this discussion. It's not the most exciting topic, true, but we need to reach agreement nontheless. I'm a big proponent of readability and consistency. To my mind, the format and color coding on List of Wii U software is terribly convoluted through an excessive number of required fields, to the point of deterring editors from contributing and expanding the list. By comparison List of PlayStation 4 games and List of Xbox One games is straightforward and easier to maintain. In addition, because this is a western-centric article, may I propose that the release dates start (1) United States (2) Europe (3) Japan. I have been wanting to have a discussion on universal color coding for a while. Now seems like a good time. — TPX 13:05, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

The only thing I don't like about the color sets used in List of Wii U software is the weird template names but besides that I think you're using too much negative words choice and been illustrating wild examples. I wanted the game list to be efficient editing and easy to use for both editors and readers. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 14:49, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Move to mainspace?

Depending on the the decision of whether or not the NX draft should be moved to mainspace tomorrow (which itself depends on Nintendo's announcement tomorrow), we need to be prepared to move this to the mainspace. Gestrid (talk) 03:01, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Yup, after the announcement and the NX article is moved, I'll move this to the main space. It's modeled after the PS4 game list, and all entries are sourced, so it should be good to go. Sergecross73 msg me 03:20, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Inclusion criteria

Please only add titles to the list that are:

  1. Officially announced. (Not just games rumored or shown briefly in sizzle reels.)
  2. Have at least some sort of tentative name. (Something like "New The Sims would be acceptable, but "Untitled Electronic Arts game is too vague, and can be difficult down the line to tell what what it was referring to.)

Thanks! Sergecross73 msg me 14:15, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Optional information in the citations

I've removed some parameters from citations, particularly author names and dates, as I didn't think they will be useful at all in this "list of games" article, but there are two users reverted my edits.

My argument was that this is the list of games article. The game list will expand over time and these parameters will contribute to the ever increasing article size. I'd like to add that the author names and dates are never relevant for such basic information of a game. We can easily find new source for the dead links, the basic information of a game will be spread all over the internet. The two optional parameters, retrieve date and website name, are relevant for checking abandoned games (old retrieve date + TBA date = likely needs update) and check against WP:VGRS, other parameters are just bloat to me.

My question is, should the full citation still be desired for this list of games article? Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 20:18, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

It's not required, but there's literally no valid reason to remove it once its present. The full citation style is the preferred way. Sergecross73 msg me 20:42, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
Alright. Can they be the first to go when the template size limit has been hit right? It did happened to List of Wii U games in other time and narrowly made it through after have removed some. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 20:58, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
There should never be any valid reason to remove citation info, you are using some sort of WP:CRYSTALBALL type prevention policy in an effort to be lazy about it. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 22:18, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
I was only asking if it's okay or just wrong thing to do so when the post-expand include size is reached. Not much to do with WP:CRYSTALBALL... Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 22:43, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Skyrim and NBA 2K17 Deconfirmed

FYI, since they keep on getting re-added and removed: As of writing this, neither are confirmed as Switch games. See http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/10/what-we-now-know-about-the-nintendo-switch/ Sergecross73 msg me 17:06, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

More games deconfirmed

As Masem has done, which is the same as what I was about to do: Nintendo has officially announced that any of the games shown in the Switch's debut trailer does not confirm a game's existence. See http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-10-24-nintendo-switch-video-does-not-represent-actual-game-footage - So basically, observing a game from the trailer, or any source basing their statement on the trailer alone, is NOT good enough of a source for putting an entry on the list. Sergecross73 msg me 18:24, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Release date order

Which region order is correct? On List of PlayStation 4 games we have JP|EU|US but here on List of Nintendo Switch games it runs EU|JP|US. Because these pages are for western audiences should not all pages proceed: US|EU|JP? — TPX 20:28, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure which is most correct, since Nintendo is originated from Japan. I've tried to go JP,EU,NA here for consistency, but it went back to EU,JP,NA by one user with edit summary like "follow alphabetical order", most likely reverted without knowing. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 21:07, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
They should really all be consistent with each other, but I'd say the best format is simply alphabetically, since that's not biased towards one region or another and should limit potential edit warring. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 07:20, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
I originally created the article out of the PS4 game list article, so if there's no consensus on what to do, it'd default back to that, its original form. I have no opinion on what it should be switched to though. Sergecross73 msg me 12:17, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

For consistency can we agree on alphabetical order? — TPX 12:28, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

I finally understood why we end up with JP,EU,NA in other game lists, it was because EU was originally PAL and US for NA. They did followed alphabetical order in the past. So alphabetical order is probably what we should use. Though should we order JP,EU,NA as it is now or treat it as JP,PAL,US? Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 22:01, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
With the introduction of AUS column under Release date in several game lists the proper alphabetical order will still work because EU comes after AUS and they're still together, they can conveniently be seen as grouped of "PAL" under Release date. The proper alphabetical order or treat as JP/PAL/US both will work. Though AUS probably should come before EU to stay true with the alphabetical order rule that most game lists failed to follow. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 21:37, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
I think there's some WP:VG guideline that says we're supposed to keep to major regions/continents. Sergecross73 msg me 22:30, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Perhaps I'm a grump but I think we should restrict the list to 3 regions (US|EU|JP). — TPX 22:56, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Combine EU into PAL, and just use the first release date of the 2 regions (which don't really differ anyway). ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:27, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
There are some people who care for precise region <-> release date in the broad "PAL". We could make a compromise here: have multi release dates (or merge them if they're identical) in the same cell with PAL regions in superscript after them (I.E. December 31, 2000AUS,EU, but without superscript will automatically mean EU if column name is "EU / PAL"). List of GameCube games does this. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 01:49, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Radical suggestion: Until there is actually granularity in release dates, don't worry about this and just have a single column. Until you need it, no reason to have four columns that essentially all say "TBA" or "2017". Can discuss in mean time but it's just a waste of space and article size until there's actual differences to illustrate. Otherwise, not sure why we'd do anything differently here than we do at any other "List of consoleX games". IMO, they should generally be uniform. -- ferret (talk) 01:56, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

@Escfrip: After I checked that above Glixel interview you provided, it doesn't say that Skyrim is confirmed as a Nintendo Switch game. All I can see there is Todd Howard's positive remarks towards Switch. – // Hounder4 // 22:00, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Agreed. Nothing in that interview confirms Skyrim for Switch. -- ferret (talk) 22:02, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
It only seems to confirm the demo's existence, not that the game itself is actually going to be released. Sergecross73 msg me 22:06, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

It says Glixel: Can you really bring Skyrim with you on the go? Todd: It's the same game on the TV and on the other screen.. Alludes to a release but not sure it is explicit confirmation. --The1337gamer (talk) 22:34, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Just to note for those watching, this has been added again today both here and at Skyrim, using other sources that are paraphrasing the interview above. -- ferret (talk) 18:33, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

A note: not all demos/teases become games

Due to the recurring issue of people adding games that Nintendo has teased but not officially confirmed to the list, I wanted to point out that there have been times in the past where games were teased or alluded to prior to a system's release, to never been actually announced or released.

For example, according to this Kotaku source on the PlayStation Vita prior to launch, Sony had shown off versions of Metal Gear Solid 4, Yakuza 4, and Lost Planet on the system - none of these games ended up existing on the Vita.

So don't go assuming just because they do a presentation that there is necessarily that game coming to the platform. Sergecross73 msg me 21:38, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Table row counter is broken

Just a heads up, but sometime recently, the automatic table row counter template broke in the article. I'll take a look at it later if somebody else doesn't beat me to it. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 08:45, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Isn't it Nintendo only. Why Warriors adaption is listed "Unknown"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.0.228.69 (talk) 09:12, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

  • Because it's not known (AFAIK) whether it will be a Switch exclusive or also be released on the Wii U/3DS. But you are right in saying that it's not going to release on non-Nintendo systems, so I don't see a problem with putting that there. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 09:23, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

AUS

Am I being meanspirited by wanting to remove the AUS release date from the table? It does not appear in other mainline lists articles, and it makes the rest of the table appear pressed. — TPX 12:25, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Technically, I believe that the WP:VG/GL says to not use the Australian release dates, though because we've had some prominent Australian video game editors in the past, they seem to be often added anyways. But I believe you're technically in the right in removing it. I'd support it too - I support trimming just because people always bloat these charts up to the point that its hard to read or add to them. Sergecross73 msg me 15:17, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Agreed. Especially as there doesn't appear to be any current differences. Maybe change EU to EU / AUS until such time there's a difference in releases worth noting. -- ferret (talk) 15:20, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
I think others have mentioned doing this as well. I'm all for just going with PAL and combining the two, since there is almost never a difference between the two, and if there is, it's just due to timezones that differ by a day. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:29, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers

Merger proposal

Proposing a merger of List of Nintendo Switch games and List of upcoming Nintendo Switch games. Do these lists really need to be split? I'm sure once the Switch is out, if one wants to see specifically see a list of upcoming games for the console, they'd simply bring up List of Nintendo Switch games and toggle the table to sort by date and go from there. Genre Format

Some of the listed game genres don't link to Wikipedia pages on it hence the black text instead of the usual blue text. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 02:18, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

  • They don't all need to be linked, per WP:REPEATLINK. Ideally, you'd have the first mention of a genre linked and the rest not, but that becomes something else people have to maintain (due to newer games being listed alphabetically above it), so normally people just link it again, as it doesn't really cause issues. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 04:46, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
    • And if the table is sortable, then if you link one, all instances should be linked since you don't necessarily know which will come with first with the various sorting. --MASEM (t) 04:49, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Table Row Counter of Games

The table row counter of the games list seems to be broken. It's only displaying an apostrophe. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 01:48, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

It's fine now. Keep in mind that the counter doesn't row properly when previewing. -- ferret (talk) 15:06, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Right now, it's not updated again. It's supposed to be 77 games instead of the displayed 76 games. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 06:50, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Apparently the table row counter script will try to ignore the |- at the very end of the table. There has been commented out tag "<!-- Z -->" below |- causing table row counter to not ignore the last |-, then eventually there's a game starting with Z recently added to the list. Dragon Warriors 1 & 2

Is there a reason these are together? I understand that these are games in the same series, one being a sequel to the other, but I believe that each one should be listed separately as they are distinct individual releases, and having them listed in the same row means that the table at the top detailing the number of releases doesn't take this into account! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.94.54.147 (talk) 04:33, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Project Fist

The source being used for Project Fist is not updated as the game was said to be announced for the NX and not the Switch, so it may no longer be developed for the Switch given the long time between the announcement and today. 121.97.218.215 (talk) 11:21, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Rise: Race the Future

Is this game confirmed for the Switch? Because last time I checked this game was removed from the list, due to there being no recent mention of this game up for release on the Switch and the fact that its release on the Switch isn't even stated on its website. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 05:45, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

The source currently in use just says "an NX version can also be expected next year", so this is even before the initial October reveal. If nothing else has be announced since then, it doesn't belong. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 08:10, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
This has been removed repeatedly. Early last year, the developer had NX listed on the website, and a few sources reported that. It has since been removed, and other social media posts by the company call into question if the game will ever be released at all. Please don't add them back in again, like you just did with all the 5 Neo Geo games. They are already confirmed to be part of a Neo Geo games compilation that will release these Neo Geo games separately per week. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:24, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

If you still need proof on why they're part of an emulation service, read this: https://www.famitsu.com/news/201701/13124782.html Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:31, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

I haven't been following these Neo Geo games all that closely, so I could be wrong, but if these are emulated old games being re-released digitally, then down the line, when we know more about the Switch's Virtual Console (or equivalent), there may be a secondary list for these sorts of games where they could be listed individually. Like List of Virtual Console games for Wii (North America) or List of Virtual Console games for Wii U (Japan). (Never really understood why someone decided to split them out by region like that, but that's besides the point.) Sergecross73 msg me 15:32, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
Probably the same reason some editors are insistent on adding Japanese kanji and katakana to everything remotely Japanese. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:54, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

On this note, should we add "Akeaka NEOGEO" to the list of confirmed games? Since the Famitsu article does mention it as something similar to Arcade Archives. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:33, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Multiplatform Criteria

If a game is coming out on the Wii U and Switch, along with PC/Mac/Linux/iOS/Android, does that make it a multiplatform game or a console exclusive? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nintendoswitchfan (talkcontribs) 13:31, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

I would label it a console exclusive, unless/until it was put on PS4, XboxOne or Vita. That's how I understand it anyways, I don't really track this as intensely as some do. You might want to wait until others confirm this too. Sergecross73 msg me 13:52, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes, 'console' is the nearest fit. — TPX 18:50, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
I'd go with multi-platform honestly, but how often is this going to occur on the Switch? The only game I can think off the top of my head that was Wii U and PC exclusive was Sonic Lost World, with the PC version coming years after the Wii U release. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 07:23, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Well, there's Racing Apex and World of Goo. Only a few games, but since more people said console, I'll go with console. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nintendoswitchfan (talkcontribs) 07:40, 26 January 2017 (UTC) Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 07:47, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Starting now, I'll label games that are only on Nintendo platforms and not any other console platforms like Sony/Microsoft but also on PC and or Mobile platforms as console exclusives. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 07:47, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Neo Geo Games

Someone please help me add some of the games here. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 04:34, 20 January 2017 (UTC) https://www.famitsu.com/news/201701/13124782.html

They are included in the Arcade Archives list article. I shall underline the first letter to make list aricles more pronounced. If anyone objects, say the word. — TPX 11:41, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Anyway, I added all the games there already since someone put Waku Waku 7 as a separate game, you guys can remove those if they are incorrect and part of Arcade Archives and not separate games like what the one who edited Waku Waku 7 thought and led me to believe. 121.97.218.215 (talk) 11:44, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

As of now, I just removed the listed separate Arcade Archives since they are apparently part of Arcade Archives as I suspected and that Waku Waku 7 entry in the list was really wrong though it got me confused. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 12:14, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Just removed this again so replying: These should not be listed here. They are Neo Geo games available through a separate emulation service (Arcade Archives). It would be akin to putting every Virtual Console title in the list too. Only actual games for the Switch should be listed here. -- ferret (talk) 21:57, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for correcting me. I'll remove any Arcade Archives games I see next time instead of adding more if ever someone puts one on to the list. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 06:52, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

I dont get the standards here, a game is a game, and a port from the Neo Geo isnt different to recent ports in my opinion. These Hamster games are all separate releases, and for some reason in the PS4 List of games article Garou and Last Blade 2 are counted but Hamsters games arent?--Crossswords (talk) 08:41, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
Those two games are not straight ports. They are "enhanced" versions. Last Blade 2 has a new multiplayer option and cross-play for example. I'm not certain but I think that is the reason they are listed separately from Arcade Archive collection. — TPX 13:58, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
but the news about these Hamster games said that there will some different network features like seeing other peoples credit, some kind of global ranking if i am not mistaken.--Crossswords (talk) 04:17, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps you are correct then. Maybe they belong on the Arcade Archives list article. — TPX 23:16, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Date time sorting (dts)

Will User:Rukario-sama kindly stop reverting this. Abbreviated DTS is valid input style supported by Template:Dts#Abbreviation. It's particularly useful for tables that convey a lot of information. It contracts September to Sep., November to Nov., etc. I would happily use {{dts|2017|03|27|abbr=on}} if he prefers all numerals but the {{dtba}} template that Rukario-sama himself created does not support it. — TPX 20:02, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Abbreviated dates being ideal for the table is subjective, since this article is primarily revolving a single large table. I could see it useful to some articles that need a well compacted table. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 23:26, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
It's useful, period. I'm politely requesting that you either (i) update your {{dtba}} template to conform with the {{dts|2017|03|27|abbr=on}} parameter, or (ii) refrain from reverting me when I use truncated release dates. — TPX 11:52, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

If you have no reply then I will continue with the shorter DTS formet. — TPX 17:06, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

I don't see month in abbreviated letters necessary for any reason given besides for the table that attracted too much attention in the article due to its size. But if you're so persistent about it, at least try to avoid additional parameters for efficient editing as the table grows. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 21:24, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

Release date order (2)

Can we please reach agreement on the release date order and apply the result to all list articles? Until very recently the date appeared in alphabetical order (EU|JP|US) but User:Rukario-sama changed it to JP|US|PAL. — TPX 18:27, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

I agree, but Rukario-sama altered it. His reasoning appears to be that Nintendo is a Japanese company, therefore JP should be listed first. But this leads to inconsistency across the project. People assume the date order is the same in every list article and they enter wrong information.. — TPX 21:05, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
Well, that is objectively true and J comes before N and P anyway. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:53, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
But it also leads to problems. Xbox is made by a North American company so, presumably, we lead with NA elsewhere and not JP? This leads to editors making assumptions, as they have in the past, and entering release dates in the wrong column. NA is second here and third on PS4 and Xbox pages. I'm looking for consistency across all lists to avoid confusion. — TPX 12:58, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
Which is why I said we should simply go with an alphabetical listing. Those other pages should also follow the same standard we've set here, if you ask me. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:42, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

I ageee that an aphabetical listing makes the most sense here. Gwardys (talk) 04:54, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm in favor of consistency across game list for the convenience of copy/paste and for the readers to be familiarized with usual column order without having to look at headers. EU|JP|NA might be fine too but might be more convenient if AUS and EU was taken into the last column after JP and NA under manipulated headings because the most majority of game lists don't have AUS dates. Those other game lists will still need to be updated to follow this order either way. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 03:22, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, the issue right now is that nobody wants to go through all of these lists and manually change them. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 08:09, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
I insist on keeping the lists by JP, EU, NA. Because what if EU or AUS have one day apart then a same date? Then PAL wouldn't be perfect in that sense. I would be appreciated if we could add Australasia to the list. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 00:12, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
It was already judged to be too minor to have an entire column dedicated to it, wasn't it? We don't usually have separate US and CAN fields, even though release dates do differ between the two nations at times. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 11:12, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Super Blackjack Battle 2

Is this game actually confirmed? 'Cause the reference for this game doesn't show proof of Headup Games even announcing it for the Switch. It just seems to make a claim that they announced it for the Switch. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 11:29, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

It depends on your definition of confirmed. The claim is that they plan to release it for the Switch later this year but do not currently have it in development. I can confirm the authenticity of the claim made in the article, as I am the author. Darthbutcher (talk)4:25, 30 January 2017

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Should we use Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove or simply Shovel Knight? Since Dissident93 did use Snipperclips instead of Snipperclips - cut it out, together! Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:05, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, because that is the title, whereas "cut it out, together" is a slogan. Ozdarka (talk) 08:49, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
The subtitle here is allowed because of its common use in reliable sources, and also to differentiate the game from the original version (that lacked the subtitle). So basically, the same two policies I linked for Snipperclips also apply here for Treasure Trove. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 13:23, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

Ok. I just changed it back to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and alphabetized the list. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 14:01, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

Console Exclusive Count

Why do we combine Nintendo exclusives with console exclusives in the total count of console exclusive games instead of making a separate category to show the total of number of Nintendo exclusives separately? Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 12:23, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

# of Players

It would be great to know the game modes available based on players, especially since the Switch is intended as a multi-function console/handheld hybrid, which encourages group play. Categories for the table would be multi-select, and could include: 1P, 2P, Co-op, 1-4 local, 4+ online, 8+ online, etc. SquashEngineer (talk) 16:06, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

I really think that's more of something you'd find on the article's individual article rather than here. Editors (myself included) are already concerned the table is getting too complicated, and these things often require context, or need to list off multiple classifications... Sergecross73 msg me 16:37, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
List of PlayStation VR games is a prime example of how bloated and messy these articles can become if you don't stick to the basics. I want to remove half of that information but suspect I will be reverted if I try. It had Metacritic and YouTube trailers at one point! — TPX 17:37, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
Ugh. Yeah the PS VR list is terrible. I'd go for it and trim it back, it doesn't seem to be very actively maintained, so you may not get much push-back as you think. Sergecross73 msg me 18:02, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Column for physical release

I added a column that shows whether or not each game is a physical release, but another editor wanted to discuss it first. I think this is necessary to distinguish what type of release each entry refers to. A physical presence in stores is a significant factor. The unknowns will quickly be filled in. Are there any objections to including this information? Ozdarka (talk) 10:20, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

I wasn't sure why he'd wanted the discussion first to be honest. Wouldn't it gonna be easier to edit the table once the new column is preloaded with "unknown" cells? How is this unhelpful? Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 10:49, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
We normally create a separate list for physical releases. — TPX 10:59, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
All Switch games are digital, so it's necessary to point out which ones are also physical. Ozdarka (talk) 12:14, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
No different to the PS4. For physical releases we have List of PlayStation 4 games released on disc. These have their own release dates because not all physical releases are issued at the same time in each region. A link to the physical page is placed in the lead to help readers access the information quickly. — TPX 10:15, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Shouldn't we make it a EShop column similar to how the List of Wii U software and List of Nintendo 3DS games do it? - Plutoz123 10:43, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Those tables are unnecessarily complicated. — TPX 11:18, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Having two articles are gonna be worse but since you haven't given enough details supporting your claim I'll be as vague as you. By the way, please don't refer to yourself as "we" and treat List of PlayStation 4 games released on disc, List of download-only PlayStation 3 games, etc. as "normal". Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 20:20, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Your snark is misplaced. By "we" I am talking about the community as a whole; We already have separate list articles that show physical release dates for each region. If you visit Template:PlayStation you will observe that overlapping game lists have been "a thing" for 10+ years. I don't care for those other pages and have never cared to expand them, but at the same time I know that there are editors who are fiercely defensive of that approach and insist we keep them. In fact, I proposed a merger of sorts 2 years ago with User talk:Landingdude13, the editor who is most active maintaining them, but he was intent on keeping the lists separate. Dissident93's suggestion to use color highlighting is a sensible solution. After my failed proposal to merge the pages I also considered underlining the first letter of titles that have received a physical release for succinctness, but I suspected the idea would be rejected too. — TPX 22:25, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
We don't include the type of media in infoboxes anymore, so we shouldn't do the same here. It would just bloat the list with yet another column, and only a very small selection of these games would be digital only anyway. If something like an eShop only release has to be documented, then it should be done via color highlighting, or maybe add a footnote to each of them. 5-10 years ago, a game that didn't have a physical release might have been notable, but that's not the case in 2017. Articles like List of PlayStation 4 games released on disc are silly and I have no idea why it hasn't been brought up on AfD. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 13:20, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
I'd rather not add anymore columns either - it's already getting kind of unwieldly. I wouldn't use the Wii U game list as a reference point - that ones too busy as well. Sergecross73 msg me 13:35, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
I'm of the same opinion as Dissident93 and Sergecross73. A separate list is silly, but more columns is unwieldy. A color highlight or footnote will suffice. -- ferret (talk) 20:23, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
I would avoid using color highlight and footnotes for performance and efficient editing (User:Zacharyalejandro has tried adding footnotes to List of Nintendo 3DS games before then taken them back, reason not known yet). Perhaps number of column looks intimidate, but should be easy to edit (don't just look, try to actually add a game then preview). I thought that would encourage the editors and sorting users. I could be alone thinking of that though. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 21:13, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
"I would avoid using color highlight and footnotes for performance and efficient editing" And adding another column would solve this? If it were 100% up to me, I'd not make any mention of this on the article, per my reasons above. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 06:14, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
I mean try to avoid them as much as possible, either add another column, label in text, or even nothing. It'd be more intimidating trying to label every date in color such as style="color:#ff9;"|, even worse when it comes to trying to add footnotes, attempt to use templates after/before each date will impact performance. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 07:18, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
I agree with Dissident though - not really sure I understand your rationale here... Sergecross73 msg me 13:33, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Adding another column so we won't have to...
  • label release dates indicating eShop only, will also requires label three times for each region
    |style="background-color:#ff9;"|{{dts|2017|02|02}}||style="background-color:#ff9;"|{{dts|2017|02|02}}||style="background-color:#ff9;"|{{dts|2017|02|02}}
  • use footnote which is a template, also use on each region, potentially hit performance up to three times, footnote template before/after date won't look as clean like above

Using dedicated column looks much cleaner, like so

|{{dts|2017|02|02}}||{{dts|2017|02|02}}||{{dts|2017|02|02}}
|{{Yes}}
Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 22:05, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Using this logic, having no sort of special marking/footnote/column/highlight for eShop only games has no performance hit at all, and is also what's being argued here. And since when has "performance reasons" ever been a primary reason for not doing something on Wikipedia? I'm sure it factors in sometimes, but this article is just going to continue to grow over time, and there is nothing (outside of splitting the article into A-M, N-Z or something) we can do about that. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 12:32, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Oh well, there are still many things going for having another column for eShop. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 04:01, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Exclusivity Breakdown

To further reduce confusion between console exclusives and Nintendo exclusives, why don't we include Nintendo exclusives in the exclusivity breakdown as a fourth category instead of combining the Nintendo exclusive count with the console exclusive count under console exclusives? Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 00:32, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

The fact that it might have a version on PC/mobile devices and not PS4/XBONE makes it a non-exclusive by definition. It should either be simply yes if it's only available for the Switch, and no if it isn't. Does anybody else agree? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:25, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
I think I'm gonna agree with that. There are some system that may or may not be qualified as "console" to some of us, that word is ambiguous and shouldn't be used for exclusivity status. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 00:51, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and removed it. I'd be interested in seeing if anybody disagrees with that though. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 09:33, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

It's worth noting though how the other console games list Wikipedia pages don't combine PC/Mobile devices under the multiplatform count. Personally, I would have preferred leaving multiplatform to consoles alone and instead separating console exclusives from Nintendo exclusives in the exclusivity breakdown. RISE and Hydra Castle are not confirmed, please stop adding them.

RISE: Race the Future was originally confirmed for the "NX", but any mention of a release for it has been removed from their website and the trailer for the game. Until it is confirmed again by the developers, please stop adding it.

Hydra Castle Labyrinth is another problem. It was spotted in a Nicalis tweet which was removed. Yes, it may come to the Switch, but it has not been explicitly confirmed and as such should not be included in the list.

Also, please stop using this Enthusiast link as a source. They took a fan-made image from reddit and reported it as "all these games have been confirmed by Nintendo". It is not a reliable source and claims many release dates and games that have not been confirmed.

Also Project Fist. Thanks, Nintendoswitchfan (talk).

Furthermore, the source of the Reddit image is an old version of this article. 4pf3154f7 (talk) 14:27, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Also, Moon Child, which I just removed is not confirmed either as the developers themselves still need the funds to actually make the game. They just said that they want to release it on the Switch though it's still unknown whether that will actually happen. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 07:57, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Likewise Cave Story and 1001 Spikes are not confirmed for Switch. Both originate from the same tweeted Nicalis image as Hydra Castle Labyrinth but have not been formally announced. If you remove HCL then all 3 should be removed. (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:81C8:4F00:B575:3E5A:6453:E46A (talk)

He does have a point, when you click the sources of the references used for 1001 Spikes and Cave Story, it leads you to a broken Twitter link, so maybe we should remove 1001 Spikes and Cave Story as well. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 03:24, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Adding Games to the List

Here's a tip when adding games. Add games only if the sourced articles announced them on October 20, 2016 or later on since October 20, 2016 was when the Switch trailer debuted. Also, this will ensure that the games announced were announced for the Switch and not simply the NX unlike some games that were announced for the NX but were either cancelled or never mentioned again since the Switch trailer's release. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:06, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

I don't think this should be followed 100%, as some games were directly announced for the NX and not simply rumored, like Project Sonic 2017. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:55, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Good point. Though there are exceptions to that like in Project Sonic 2017 since Nintendo used the trailer of that in their Switch presentation. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 13:27, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Yup, I believe you're both right really. I don't think it should be a "hard rule", but I do think its something to be kept in mind too. Some announcements for NX, like Pokemon and Sonic, were directly announced and widely publicized, so we don't have to doubt it. But many of these minor, obscure indie games, there could be reason to caution if they haven't said anything post-Switch announcement. Sergecross73 msg me 14:52, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Regarding the edit I made about 1001 Spikes's release...I want an explanation from you why it SHOULDN'T be included yet. There is the Wikipedia pages' entry for the Switch's version on the article pertaining to the game itself. AND...this has been confirmed by a recent discussion with the developer. http://www.polygon.com/2017/2/9/14554702/nintendo-switch-indie-friendly-binding-of-isaac-nicalis-tyrone-rodriguez

I would like for you to read posts about the game first and foremost before undoing my edit. Very angry about people who do not add games without a source, which is my apologies for not including the link next to the game's release. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 02:42, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment

When it comes to the Shovel Knight game, will we add each character campaign as separate games since they are going to be released separately like how Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment was added besides them being all-in-one with the release of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove? Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 13:49, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

If the campaigns are released as separate games, playable without first owning the base Shovel Knight game, then they should be added to this. If they are only available (on the Switch) as DLC for the base game, I would not add them to this list.--IDVtalk 21:58, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

In that case, I believe it is also fitting to add "Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope" and "Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows" to the list since they will also be released separately. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:51, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

It is confirmed now that "Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove" will include all previous DLC including the new Specter of Torment. It is also confirmed that Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be sold as stand-alone. So, Specter of Torment is added to the list. Ensink (talk) 10:43, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

Japanese Nintendo

As in the official Japanese site of Nintendo? It's a primary source, but reliable for verifying basic facts. -- ferret (talk) 14:03, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

No. Not the official Japanese site, an American website called Japanese Nintendo that reports Nintendo games in Japan, look it up. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 02:17, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

Because some people used that as a source though that website shows no proof of some of those games' announcements. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 02:18, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

Using TBA for Games

ZacharyAlejandro, what's wrong with using TBA for games? Isn't it helpful for readers when that's pointed out? Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:43, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

TBA and unknown have different meanings. TBA shows that a release has been announced, but we don't yet know when. Unknown conveys that we don't know if it will be released at all. -- ferret (talk) 15:46, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
I absolutely agree with ferret. Some games get announced only in EU/US/JP (or a combination) but sometimes not for all 3. Currently there is no way in the list to see the difference. It doesn't require an extra column either. So definitely worth it to change all TBA's to Unknown for games we don't know if they will ever be released in that region. Console exclusives.

Why are games that can be played on PC or mobile but not other platforms no longer listed as console exclusive? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.89.126.191 (talk) 21:18, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure. Games that are releasing on the Switch first, denoted as 'Timed' exclusives, have also been removed. And the legend that explain what all these mean has been zapped too. — TPX 21:24, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
It's been discussed on this talk page. I think it's the "Exclusivity Breakdown". I think the reasoning was that it was a bit complicated. It's simpler to have Yes or No rather than having to complicate it with Console exclusive only etc. - Plutoz123 21:54, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
You might as well get rid of the whole column if you're just going to do "yes" and "no" since most stuff will either be on another Nintendo platform, PC, mobile, or console.Froo (talk) 02:55, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
I'm not against this, but the previous way with 5 different values was too much and was removed due to nobody arguing to keep it. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 03:04, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
Well "too much" or "too complicated" is somewhat subjective, is it not? I don't understand how the XBOne and PS4 tables could be seen as too complicated to understand (ignoring the PS4's unlabeled Addons column), and this article now goes against the consensus used in other "Video game lists by platform" articles. Dlpkbr (talk) 09:37, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Personally, if you ask me, I liked the old format better, but it had a big problem which was when certain games are coming on 3DS/Wii u and Switch plus PC/Mobile so it got hard to distinguish those games as Nintendo exclusives or console exclusives unlike the new format which considered PC and Mobile as other platforms which made games like those I mentioned, multiplatform. 124.104.112.53 (talk) 09:16, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

I don't really have any issues with reverting. I would like to point out that "Nintendo" and "Console" can sometimes conflict. Example: If there is a game which is on the 3DS, PC and Switch. Becomes a bit more complicated then. We could do something similar to List of Wii games where they have "Console/Nintendo". But yeah, that's about it. - Plutoz123 18:10, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Not really PAL any more

Is it too picky to point out that the designation of Europe/Australasia as "PAL" is outdated? Not only as PAL is strictly an analogue TV format, long since defunct, but also because the Switch doesn't use different TV standards (the 50/60Hz divide still remains for digital broadcasts in former NTSC/PAL regions) for different regions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.226.136.112 (talk) 15:57, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Only the main number is automatic, but now the numbers in exclusivity breakdown thanks to the new template that I've created here Template:Gamelist counter. It's based on Template:Table row counter with additional strings to search from the table and form into a preloaded exclusivity statement list. It can't really be used in another game list outside of Nintendo though due to my very limited knowledge with Lua programming language. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 03:51, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
I was also thinking about having the gamelist counter implemented to the other lists, such as List of Nintendo 3DS games and List of Wii U software, since those are the main ones that I keep track of adding new games. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 06:00, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

More Indie Games (Semi-Protected Addition Request)

This is my first time doing this ever (any edit on Wikipedia), but I think I've got this in the right place. I wanted to request an edit on this semi-protected page. On the official Switch news screen they showed a few more indie titles that aren't on this list. Those that I know to be missing are Bloodstained, Perception, Space Dave!, and Splasher. All of these titles, except Bloodstained, appeared in the end card of the official Nindies showcase last week but those 3 seem to be surprisingly missing from this list. Bloodstained is the one new one I am aware of from this new source.

In addition, NeuroVoider is one word, camel case, as I have spelled here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5xqqyg/bloodstained_coming_to_nintendo_switch_confirmed/

Here's a good list of all the titles that were confirmed in the end card of the Nindies showcase. Since this image was put out by Nintendo there is no reason to consider any of these titles unconfirmed. http://gematsu.com/2017/02/nintendo-announces-64-indie-games-coming-switch-2017

  • Any of the titles at the Gematsu source would be eligible for the list. If they're not on yet, I imagine its just because people haven't gotten to it yet because so many were announced at once.
  • Reddit is generally not a usable source, but Gematsu and other sources have confirmed this one as well. Sergecross73 msg me 14:35, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
  • I would agree that reddit isn't a reliable source, but multiple people have taken pictures of the EU eShop news that shows the Bloodstained logo, so I tend to believe it is real and could be confirmed if I had an EU account. Agree that there were a lot of games announced at once in that showcase, but I wanted to list the missing ones here so that the next person doing edits would grab those (and correct the NeuroVoider name I mentioned). Editing the List of Nintendo Switch Games

Is it just me or have I been banned from editing this page since I can't seem to edit the article through the Wikipedia app 'cause it says that I don't have the rights to do so. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 09:42, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Suggestion to list Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment Separately (Semi-Protected request)

I believe we should have a separate entry for Specter of Torment. It is offered separately on the Switch eShop in all regions, it is more appealing to people who have already played the game on other platforms (because it's $15 cheaper in the US), and it is not a DLC - it is considered its own game divorced from the compilation that includes it. I really think, for accuracy, this game should have its own listing in addition to Treasure Trove.

--Pandarenninja (talk) 05:25, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Done Found out I can edit now and I think the case for adding this is sound. --Pandarenninja (talk) 05:51, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Though Specter of Torment is still part of Treasure Trove, so I personally think that it's confusing since it would make people think that it's not part of Treasure Trove when it actually is, it just has its own separation. 124.104.112.53 (talk) 16:58, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

  • If it's a standalone entry that does not require another base version of Shovel Knight, then it should be included as its own entry. If this is not the case however, then it shouldn't. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:08, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Well, it is a standalone game, so you're both right, it should be included as its own entry. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:12, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

ACA (Arcade Archives) NEOGEO games in PAL and JP

Are these considered "VC" games, will we include them in the main list? Make a second list on this page? Or don't they belong here at all and should only be on another page? I'm asking, because there actually is an entry called Arcade Archives in this list. Ensink (talk) 09:14, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

They have their own list article (Arcade Archives) but it needs amending to show which titles are available for each platform. — TPX 09:24, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Seems odd that these games aren't listed individually, since that is how they are sold (not as a bundle like the Switch games list has them). Another title was announced for Europe only for tomorrow on Nintendo's website. http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/ACA-NEOGEO-NAM-1975-1204760.html

At this point should we start listing these games out and remove the "Arcade Archives - March 3rd" entry since it isn't really that helpful or accurate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pandarenninja (talkcontribs) 01:08, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

I'm wondering if a separate table for ACA and VC games should be on this page, with fields indicating what category they belong to, or maybe additional fields in the existing table to indicate which entries are ACA, VC, etc. Similar to how exclusives are distinguished with a field. Regardless of whether these groups have their own articles, I feel that this article's table should be an inclusive list of every game released for the Switch, to serve as a complete reference. 68.197.59.144 (talk) 09:46, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Hydra Castle Labyrinth confirmed by Nicalis

Source: http://nintendoeverything.com/hydra-confirmed-for-switch-first-1001-spikes-and-cave-story-footage-on-the-system/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:81C8:4F00:2448:8B87:CC8F:A6B9 (talk) 13:38, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

It is probably true, considering the strong support Nicalis is showing the Switch. I think the reason that NintendoEverything is getting used as a source so often is that they are a 24/7 source of news, all weekend long. So when more ideal channels like IGN go quiet through the night and weekend, we see Nintendo Everything is up and picking up every Tweet or Facebook post.

In many cases lately they've been good about linking to their source, which I use instead of their post. But in this case their source just points to Polygon's Facebook page. While Polygon is a reliable source, the Facebook page doesn't seem to have this announcement on it. Can anyone add a more reliable source? --Pandarenninja (talk) 23:26, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

UPDATE: I've spent a fair bit of time trying to track down the original source video, which seems to have been a live stream with Nicalis where they showed a few games. No archive of the video can be found on Polygon's website or Facebook page. Until we get a better source that can be consistently accessed I don't think we should add this to the list. --Pandarenninja (talk) 07:43, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Done UPDATE 2: I finally found the original source video on Polygon that shows Tyrone playing the game on the Switch and talking about it. Though the game audio dominates the dialogue. I think it is legit to add it with this as the source. Suggestion to break up Arcade Archives

Seems odd that these games aren't listed individually, since that is how they are sold (not as a bundle like the Switch games list has them). As an example, Nam-1975 was just launched in PAL today, but the others had been available since last week. This seems like reason to list the games separately as they are individually launched. http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/ACA-NEOGEO-NAM-1975-1204760.html

At this point should we start listing these games out and remove the "Arcade Archives - March 3rd" entry since it isn't really that helpful or accurate?

I have seen the above list that was linked to a separate article to cover Arcade Archives, as if the collected branding should be treated the same as Virtual Console. I don't think this is the cleanest choice, since Virtual Console games on other platforms have their own search/browse within the eShop, and these Arcade Archives games are just thrown in with everything else and are not branded as Virtual Console.

I'd like to solicit other opinions on this matter so we can potentially make a change here.

By the way I would do this myself, if anyone is scared it may be a lot of work (it isn't) but I still can't edit this page.

--Pandarenninja (talk) 23:30, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Done Waited a week and didn't see anyone say it was a bad idea. This gives us a more accurate count of games on the main page and doesn't require somebody to click a link to see what OTHER games are available on the eShop.--Pandarenninja (talk) 08:08, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Yup, and people agreed upon leaving it as Arcade Archives only. This was discussed already, please check the archived talk page sections before making any edits. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 15:05, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

It is difficult to make a suggestion like this, leave it on this page for a week, not hear anything, and then do it and have it reverted 3 or 4 days later. Sorry I didn't read the entire archived discussion page (it is very long and only easy to parse if you know what to search for). However, all of my points are still valid. While I'm not that upset that my eShop/physical change was reverted (though I still stand by it), this one really bothers me because it is some sort of weird exception that doesn't follow any of the other rules we follow. There is no "Arcade Archives - Compilation" game so our page is really sort of lying that such a game exists. This is a game list, after all. And among our games we have a brand listed there that doesn't represent a game, that doesn't jive with what we're doing here.

For the casual user that comes to this page, they will see that and be rightfully confused when they can't buy the compilation game "Arcade Archives" on their eShop. I'd like to reopen this discussion fresh, without referring to the archived conversation. The Arcade Archives page is also a mess and is the convergence of all platforms, which is part of the problem.

I've now read the archived talk on this, and it didn't really look like a discussion at all. It looked like a couple people tried to do what I did, and were reverted and told why, but no real discussion really ever took place - they were just told why they were reverted. I don't really understand how ownership/authority is determined on Wikipedia. Let's have a real discussion about this.

It's not an "Emulation Service" like Virtual Console (VC also has its own section in the eShop, where the ACA games are just listed as 'games' both on Nintendo's site and the eShop). They are ports. If we aren't including ports we should take off every port including games like The Binding of Isaac. Removing Arcade Archives is arbitrary and does not provide an accurate count of how many games are available for the Switch (which should be 23 in the US as of this writing).

--Pandarenninja (talk) 22:22, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

I agree with Pandarenninja. Every game has a separate entry in the eShop. We should do the same here.

4pf3154f7 (talk) 08:32, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

With you, me, the anon in the above ACA subtopic, and the people who either did this work or brought up the preference for it in the archived talk post, it seems like this is worth re-discussing. I'd like to list these games the way that Nintendo does. --Pandarenninja (talk) 12:29, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

I actually agree with Pandarenninja here. It's just confusing having it labelled has Arcade Archives. The games here are displayed has standalone games and not a compilation. I remember when we were arguing about how Shovel Knight would be displayed. How it's displayed currently is how it's displayed on the EShop and that's how it should be here to. - Plutoz123 12:41, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

  • I'm neutral on this, all I know is that other editors said that it shouldn't be listed per game, so we go with consensus until it changes. That being said, if they are all listed seperately on the eShop, and no title is called "Arcade Archives" there, then I don't see why we argued against this. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:11, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
  • If they are sold individually and not as some sort of compilation or sub-channel (Whatever Nintendo calls them now), it's probably fine to break them out. I think the main argument was that it was a "VC"-like set of emulated releases, and that we would not typically include VC releases in this list, so don't break these out either. -- ferret (talk) 23:16, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

Dissident93 I don't suspect people knew at first, and that includes me. It is fine and innocent. I'll tell you that before the Switch launched, to me it seemed like there WAS going to be a compilation game called "Arcade Archives" because the original Japanese trailer lumped them all together and made them look like one game. That's now become clearly incorrect as with how they have been released and how they are currently presented on the Nintendo games page and in the eShop itself. I think we are building toward a shift in the original consensus here, and I'd like to redo that change, but I don't know how to do so without manually re-doing all the work. Can anyone help with that? There were 6 new NEOGEO titles announced today, and I'll be happy to add those ones once we agree and re-implement the previous work. --Pandarenninja (talk) 23:20, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

Done Thanks Dissident93, I remembered and easy way to get that stuff back so I re-implemented this change. --Pandarenninja (talk) 23:42, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

  • One thing though, should we be using the "ACA NEOGEO" in the titles? I know that's how they are listed on the eShop, but if they are just direct emulated ports of the arcade versions, then they probably should just be listed under the original name. That also being said, if they are just emulated ports, then do they even belong on this list at all? We don't include Virtual Console games on the 3DS and Wii U game lists (they have their own pages). ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:37, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
    • This was my original reasoning for not including them individually. It's much like the VC. -- ferret (talk) 16:36, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
      • I'm not sure we need to go back down that rabbit hole as it was pointed out that there were also key differences from VC. That all being said, I have no problem removing the ACA NEOGEO from the names, I was just trying to adhere to how Nintendo had them listed in the eShop and on their website. I'll go ahead and go do that. --Pandarenninja (talk) 20:46, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

Split indie / small and blockbusters in list

As someone more interested in games having sizeable content (like zelda mario big rpgs), and less in indie / remakes, I just really cant sort that list... shouldnt we have a column "type" or split it ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:2788:405:FF0E:116E:9E54:6DCB:DC2C (talk) 18:39, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

I don't think that's really plausible as far as Wikipedia policy goes. It may be easy to distinguish big budget blockbusters from one-man indie titles, but there's a lot of gray area in the middle that would be impossible to split up. It would be a constant source of arguments, commonly with no really correct answer, considering how subjective it would be... Sergecross73 msg me 18:45, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
Although -- does Nintendo not specifically call out some games as "Nindies"? (I don't know how the eShop catalogs them) While this may not capture all indie games, it is a further descriptor that should (?) be verifyible. --MASEM (t) 19:38, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
No that was a term they used for their indie showcase. It's something the community has picked up on and used, but the eShop collects all games together, there is no filtering. Given the subjective nature of this I am firmly opposed to any filter or split of this nature. It could really create a slippery slope of what we choose to filter/separate. A game is a game. --Pandarenninja (talk) 00:30, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
Agreed. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:51, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
That's what I needed to check - if the store is not giving any clear marker between indie and big title, we can't either. At best we can separate out Nintendo's first-party and direct partners they publish, but that's not even necessary with the way the table is set up. --MASEM (t) 20:30, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Sugestion - release columns first/next to title for wide screen UX (semi-protected request)

The page would be far easier to read on wide screen if the release date columns were first and next to the title column. Please reorder the columns. At the moment on a 3440x1400 34" display I need to use a 50 cm long roller to refer dates to their relevant titles in respective rows. Ankhazam (talk) 11:42, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Not done for now: This will need discussion, as this list follows a relatively standard format. Also, in the case of such a wide screen, I'd recommend the user simply un-maximize their browser in order to shrink the window width. -- ferret (talk) 11:58, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Cheers!!! That helped a lot. Still there are some tables where release dates are one of the first columns e.g.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_downloadable_songs_for_Rocksmith and I believe such ordering would improve the table redability as people are looking for games already release or to be released soon. Japanese releases

Has anyone learned that Tomorrow Corporation has not had an official confirmation for any of their games for release in Japan? Anyone also not learned to delete any underscores that are breaking the titles webpage causing a redirect? Whether the game is officially scheduled for release in Japan, we can add, but until then, let's wait until we get OFFICIAL confirmation from the developers. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 21:17, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

@Zacharyalejandro: Might I suggest cooling the tone just a little bit, and remind you of WP:CIVIL. It doesn't help to fix a harmless redirect if you replace them with an incorrect link as you did. Additionally, underscores do not cause redirects (Though I agree with fixing them to correct un-piped links). -- ferret (talk) 22:02, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
  • I had originally rolled back the change because it seemed to do more harm than good. While I could have fixed the links just as easily has when I originally made them, I didn't think it was worth keeping a change that mainly broke the ACA page links and switched a few TBAs to "unreleased", though I do agree with the general purpose behind both changes and agree that without confirmation that those games are coming to Japan we shouldn't indicate that they eventually are. --Pandarenninja (talk) 23:04, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
  • Per the topic, I wonder if we should go through and tag releases as "Unreleased" if they aren't confirmed for a particular territory. I can't imagine that all of the TBA games are confirmed as worldwide releases right now, and in order to preserve accuracy I think we should probably do a little cleanup. Is there a way to split up this work? --Pandarenninja (talk) 08:57, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
  • You could probably just get started and allow somebody else to finish. Or just do it bit by bit over time. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 19:10, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
    • This is in progress, though I am attempting to carefully research each change I make for the sake of accuracy so it will take time to verify the entire list.--Pandarenninja (talk) 20:59, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
      •   In progress Still in-progress, but today I rolled back all of the "Nindies Showcase" announcements to "Unreleased" for Japan unless I had specific knowledge that they were coming to Japan (or maybe I missed one, but I tried to be careful). The reasoning is simple - whoever implemented those assumed they'd come to all territories, rather than leave them as western releases. The broadcast was done from the US, and the games and dates that have released so far have been US and Europe only with the exception of Blaster Master: Zero. Most indie developers do not have the means or resources for translation, and few of these games have any precedent for being translated on other platforms where they are available.
        • Fair enough assumption. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:05, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
          • Indeed. I think most people just add games without much thought with what region they're actually announced for. Also, as other discussions have shown, some editors don't seem to understand the difference between putting "TBA" and "unreleased/unannounced/not happening/etc". Which is understandable - it's been something I've observed to be an issue for many years honestly... Sergecross73 msg me 15:09, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

New Indie Game Coming to Switch

"Anew: The Distant Light" is not yet on the list. Could someone please add, details can be found here http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/03/kickstarter_title_anew_the_distant_light_is_heading_to_nintendo_switch

  • I'm moving this comment to the bottom, and looking into the source. --Pandarenninja (talk) 17:22, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
    • I'm on the fence about adding this. It was a Kickstarter game that met its goal, and met a stretch goal that had the following detail:
Not done "Nintendo Switch Feasibility Research: This is a commitment to full due diligence in planning for development of a Switch port. Their indie program currently appears to be very limited and they are not accepting many games. We anticipate that it will open for more developers at some point, but we will aggressively pursue it regardless. We will acquire dev kits, attempt to establish a developer relationship for the platform like we already have for PlayStation and Xbox, and we will analyze the hardware for technical constraints that we need to optimize around. Doing this early makes a Switch port much more likely and faster to arrive."
That could mean, in theory, they never get approval from Nintendo for dev kits, though I don't expect that will happen.--Pandarenninja (talk) 17:33, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
This is in a nutshell why all the blogs like Nintendolife and Nintendoeverything have to be looked at really hard. Things get spammed out "IT'S HAPPENING" but once you dig it was from some other blog with no sourcing, misread twitter post, or like this, where "plans" are announced but nothing is approved or official yet. -- ferret (talk) 18:20, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree. Usually NintendoLife is on the better end of things, but a number of those other ones we generally discourage (GoNintendo, MyNintendoNews, etc) do have a problem with some of the details sometimes. I'd personally leave this one out until they announce they're officially signed on as a Switch developer at least... Sergecross73 msg me 19:00, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Abraca: Switch Edition

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/04/four-player_competitive_platformer_abraca_imagic_games_will_cause_a_kerfuffle_on_switch_this_may Link to a newly confirmed game, just wanted to check if we should use Nintendo Life as its source since the actual YouTube video link leads to a semi-private video. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 10:48, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

The problem with Nintendo Life is that they are careless about checking their sources. Take a look at this article (which is clearly not correct information). If you click their twitter source at the bottom you can see it's linked to somebody who is NOT associated with the company who proceeds to say "This is based on PS4/Xbox One releases and logically expected on Switch but not officially confirmed."
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/03/hamster_corporation_confirms_next_batch_of_aca_neo_geo_classics
Yet in the article Nintendo Life says "Japanese company Hamster Corporation has confirmed the next batch of titles in its "ACA Neo Geo" range." It was simply a list of games that are on PS4 and not yet on the Switch. So while I have reason to believe this is true, the YouTube video could be a fake as it's not associated with anyone official that I can tell (probably explains the unlisted nature of it). Trying to track its source down I came across a French website that had more details, but they use the video as the source and they have information in their article that isn't from the video. http://www.jeuxonline.info/actualite/52415/abraca-invite-nintendo-switch --Pandarenninja (talk) 20:13, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Honestly, Nintendo Life should be deemed outright unreliable, as previously stated for Nintendo Everything. -- ferret (talk) 21:18, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

So can we use the video as a valid source for the game? The video does include the developer's website in the description below. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 13:51, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

As of right now, NintendoLife still has a consensus for being usable per WP:VG/S, so you're free to use it. However, if there's good reason to question it, or if another, more reliable source directly contradicts it, then I'd try to stay away from it. Sergecross73 msg me 13:56, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Just added the game. If ever Nintendo Life is deemed unsuitable for sources, we can just use the developer's actual video as the source. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 14:38, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Guys I am extremely skeptical of this video. I did some digging. The source is a YouTube user with 157 subscribers. The person put the video up as unlisted. They are a moderator on a Doofus fan page (Doofus is another game by the Abraca developers). So he's a fan of the company, not associated with them. Further, I found his Twitter profile and he says he's a CS student in college. Lastly, I compared the video to the PC trailer and it is frame-for-frame exactly the same as the PC trailer with the exception being that they added some very basic Switch overlays into the video at certain times. It really screams fake to me, and that no official source can verify it, and that the video's source is from a fan mod, I really would feel a lot more comfortable if we removed this for now. I'm trying to do the right thing.--Pandarenninja (talk) 21:29, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Done It's been listed as April 13 for a while. However, it is only confirmed for Europe/Australia on that date, which is all we have it for. Click the source link in your URL to see what I mean.--Pandarenninja (talk) 19:39, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

Please put new requests at the bottom of the talk page. We've discussed elsewhere on this page that Nintendo Life has a low-quality bar for sourcing their news and has, on several occasions this year, picked up unsourced articles or articles with bogus sources that have turned out to be false reports. It just happened again last week. The source provided at the bottom of their article doesn't seem to be reliable (it's rating information).--Pandarenninja (talk) 10:58, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Done This game was announced during the Nintendo Direct on April 12th.--Pandarenninja (talk) 03:47, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
