Talk:List of RC Strasbourg Alsace players

Unreferenced

The section Notable players for the club is almost completely unreferenced. Currently the only references include:

This is inaccessible, and thus unverifiable.
This is perfectly accessible, it leads to a list of all players that played for RCS and then by clicking on each player's profile you have the complete information. If it does not work on your computer it is not my fault! Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
This points to another Wikipedia article for sources. From Wikipedia's verifiability policy, it states "Articles and posts on Wikipedia, or other websites that mirror Wikipedia content, may not be used as sources."
Again, it is not pointing to it as a source but as the full information. If you take just ten seconds to look at it you will see that the "Records" section in the main article has reliable sources. Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is a note on the table, and not a reference
So what? It is directly taken from the list of Ipswich players model that is cited as model (or at least that is the one I was suggested to make this article) Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are notes that provide further information, not references
Again, just like in the Ipswich list. Who said that footnotes are only to give references? Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't indicate anything about the person's career at RC Strasbourg
Certainly, but it shows that he played for Romania while at Strasbourg because the data on his Strasbourg carrer is easily obtainable from the webstite of footnote 1 that, somehow, you cannot have access to. I would also like to point that the profiles on this website (Racingstub) have been used all over Wikipedia by a lot of people apart from me. Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

While this reference indicates RC Strasbourg, it doesn't state the years that the player played there.

The same over and over again. I certainly made clear that most of the data comes from the Racingstub profiles that are available from note 1. In my opinion you should use your time to see the website rather than posting stupid comment on other's people work Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Now with this documented, let's go back to Wikipedia's relevent policies which include Verifiability and Notability. Verfiability states:

"The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—that is, whether readers are able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether we think it is true. Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or the material may be removed."

So there needs to be references from reliable sources that give the dates that the players played for RC Strasbourg that is verifiabily by other readers.

It is verifiable! Maybe it is not for you but it is for many WP users who use this site. Again, I am far from being the only one having access to it if you see the pages about former and current RC strasbourg players that where created by several users apart from me Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notability is also relevant. It states:

"Several articles contain or stand alone as lists of people - for instance, usually an article on a college includes or links to a list of notable alumni. Such lists are not intended to contain everyone (e.g. not all people who ever graduated from the school). Instead, inclusion on the list should be determined by the criteria above."

The criteria for inclusion includes explaining why the players are notable, which is not the case here.

Yes it is the case and I used exactly the same criterias as the Ipswich list. They are stated at the beginning (+100 Appps, caps for national team or club record). Can't you read? Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

So unless these problems the tag stays. Regards -- Jeff3000 (talk) 15:41, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I confess this is work in progress, obviously. But the sources needed are, for most of them, those concerning the national caps (were the players capped when at Strasbourg?) and the captaincy... The central and most important data (Apps and goals) is referenced in a manner similar to the ipswich list. and the Ipswich list is a featured list. So, I will trust the Ipswich list rather than you and remove the banner, while still working to have the most reliable sources. Zitelli67 (talk) 16:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Let me note again that Wikipedia policies are non-negotiable. Verifiability is a key point. The first link is not accessible by most people. You need a username/passoword, and when someone clicks on the link it states "Accès interdit "". The link to the other wikipedia page is not permissible by Wikipedia policies that I quoted. It is unimportant it in takes 10 seconds to see it. Wikipedia policies state that other Wikipedia pages are not permissible as sources. Read the policies. The references have to be a backup of the information in this article, which includes the notability of the players playing for Strasbourg, and there dates of play.

If you keep removing the tag without providing accessible sources, I will report you to Wikipedia administrators for going against Wikipedia's policies. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk) 16:42, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, no and no. The page is perfectly accessible and I use it without an account/password. If you donnot have access to it, it means that you have a bug on your computer/browser! You should try to fix it instead of harassing people with suspicion and proclamation of policies. I know the policies and I know that reliable sources are important. Zitelli67 (talk) 16:50, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's not accessible. I tried it on three computers with two browsers on each (Firefox, and Internet Explorer, and the page is not accessible. You have a cookie set or something, that allows you to visit the page. I'll be tagging all statements that are not cited by {{cn}} tags. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk) 18:10, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think I have found the problem. The website is not accessible from Canada. When I remote login to another machine that is based in the US, the web page is not accessible. There is however, a significant number of statements that are not cited, and I'll be noting those. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk) 18:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
