editIt would be interesting to have also statistics by nationality. Hektor (talk) 17:28, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Banned guests section
editI've only commented it it out for now, though by right it could be removed summarily for its violation of WP:BLP. We cannot make uncited claims of living persons being banned from anything without reliable-source citations. Huge amounts of that section used weasel words such as "reportedly" to get around concrete, substantive citation and proper sourcing for what in many instances appear to be unsubstantiated gossip and rumor derived from amateur fan sites, blogs and forums. "Banned" is an extremely strong claim to make about someone, and such extraordinary claims require exceptional citation.
I've seen a large number of websites making claims about banned guests, and whenever I've sought a source, they all point to the same uncited Wikipedia articles. That says something about our responsibility to present accurate, substantiated facts.
There are at least two or three major books about Saturday Night Live by respected journalists, so there's no reason that any such strong claims should not be cited to a responsible source. --Tenebrae (talk)`
What is this site?
editThe only reference in this entire article is this raw URL http://snl.jt.org/guest that goes to an anonymous site called The SNL Archives. Is this a fan site? Going to just http://snl.jt.org doesn't provide any additional information about it, or who edits it, or anything else. Can anyone weigh in on this?--Tenebrae (talk) 05:17, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Overhaul
editWhat is the purpose of these oldest, younger, political, sports figures, returning cast, etc sections? And who came up with the guideline that someone has to be over 65 or under 18 to be on the lists, why is there a list specifically for sports figures and their field or sport? A lot of this reads as trivia and is unsourced, so it needs to go. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 18:30, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- I would agree. Most of the page is arbitrary trivia that should be removed. -- Wikipedical (talk) 21:34, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
There is no "five timers club" musical guests, its a skit, and its been applied to hosts, the page is not for arbitrary made up lists of unnotability. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 20:19, 7 October 2013 (UTC) @Dr Who, This discussion has been here for a month, all of the content that was removed was unnotable and completely arbitrary. Why a list of 15? Why does a cameo not count? A single or group of persons have made up a bunch of rules and 'achievements' and made several lists of completely unsourced information. This is List of Saturday Night Guests, nowhere does it say List of Saturday Night Guest Trivia. The Five Timers club is a loose association of hosts who have appeared 5 times, so on top of the arbitrary age lists and cast who have hosted (such an achievement), you've made up a separate club for music performers. Unless you can justify any of these things, do not revert them as it will be considered edit warring without any justification. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 20:44, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Steve Martin
editDoes his hosting yesterday of the SNL 40th Anniversary Special count? It's referenced in the opening banter between Martin and Baldwin.
Ulmanor (talk) 20:20, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
No, it doesn't count. He wasn't the host, there was no actual host and it wasn't an actual episode of SNL either, it was a special, so it doesn't actually count. There was no actual host of the show, Martin did do the opening welcome after the opening by Fallon and Timberlake, but only showed up one other time for the very short appearance as King Tut. People need to stop putting him as host for the 16th time, he didn't host the show, and if you want to count that as him hosting, then you tag Baldwin, Hanks etc with hosting as well since they were all part of that opening sketch. Also, Martin was listed in the same order as everyone else in the opening credits, if he were the special guest host, then he would have been listed separately when they went through the cast at the start. 74.104.150.176 (talk) 18:59, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Where is Martin Short?

Creation of 5-Timers Club article
editSaw this was discussed here years ago, but wanted to get some thoughts on creating a separate 5-Timers Club article. Since Kristen Wiig's appearance on April 7, we're now up to 25 5-Timers. The 5-Timer sketches also are noteworthy as they often include other celebrities as well. Relentless Marauder (talk) 14:46, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
