Starting the List without knowing Portuguese
editHi there. I have just started this list. The big problem is that I don't know Portuguese. I can get somewhere with my Latin and French, but if someone who knows Portuguese well could check what I am producing here, that'd be very good.
If you see this please point the page out to your Portuguese-speaking friends! Cheers, Krankman 00:07, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Propose changing the name to List of Sinhalese words of Port. origin ?
- Fine with me. Krankman 18:52, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

editGive reasons why this is an encylopedia artile not just a list of words. Describe how Sinhalese came about these words, there effect etc.RaveenS 13:51, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Diyuranna
editHello. I just removed
divuranna | Swear | jurar | Swear |
because it is not a loanword. It is a compound made out of diviya "oath" and uranavā "to swallow" (see Geiger, Etymological Glossary of the Sinhalese Language).
By the way Sinhala verbs are normally cited in the navā-form; we should stick to that convention in this article in case any verbs come up. Krankman 08:37, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
