How to count shorts

edit

So IJBall brought up an excellent point with his recent edits to Stuck in the Middle and this article here and here. I'm not sure myself, either, but, for example, when updating the episode count on the main article, I went with updating it from 17 episodes to 23 episodes rather than adding +6 shorts in parentheses because I feel it looks neater and less cluttered, but, again, I'm not really sure myself on how to handle these situations. Opinions? (Geraldo Perez, MPFitz1968, Nyuszika7H) Amaury (talk | contribs) 03:24, 17 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

For comparison: List of Heroes episodes, Heroes Reborn (miniseries)#Episodes, List of Battlestar Galactica (2004 TV series) episodes (I'm really struggling with coming up with TV series with webisodes, especially "kids shows"...). Now these all seem to be "webisodes" rather than "shorts" (the latter is very unusual), but they all seem to not be counted as "regular episodes". Secrets and Lies (U.S. TV series)#Episodes handles things differently, integrating the webisodes in with the "regular" episodes in the episodes table, but Secrets and Lies' webisodes were more directly integrated in with the series' episodes, so that makes sense. But it doesn't look like webisodes/shorts are counted as "regular episodes" anywhere... --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:46, 17 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Stuck in the Waterpark – The Movie

edit

I'm wondering if we should mark this down as another "special", rather than as an "episode", as Disney is explicitly advertising this as a "movie"... Pinging Amaury. --IJBall (contribstalk) 03:30, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

That's a tough one, and I should also note I haven't seen any advertisements yet myself. Unlike The Thundermans with the unique production codes for "Thundermans: Secret Revealed" and "Thundermans: Banished!", the latter being part of season four, this episode for Stuck in the Middle has a normal production code—201. Obviously, network marketing takes precedence to TV guides, but it sounds like it's not totally clear right now. Amaury (talk | contribs) 03:50, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
@IJBall: Looks to be part of season two, but, again, I haven't seen the commercial itself yet: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2017/01/20/disney-channel-debuts-season-two-of-stuck-in-the-middle-with-a-family-movie-event-stuck-in-the-waterpark-the-movie-on-february-3-258413/20170120disney02/ Amaury (talk | contribs) 16:04, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Even Disney ABC Press itself is saying season two, but, while reliable, it's not as reliable as The Futon Critic or Zap2it as it often is missing episode entries and the like and it's the reason why we can't use it to source upcoming episodes. Click on the box with the series logo here. So it's still up in the air what this episode counts as for now. Amaury (talk | contribs) 19:41, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Stuck in the Aqualympics

edit

It is part 2 of the season premiere and prod. code 202. Zap2it lists this episode when the hour-long premiere is split up into 2 parts for reruns. Rboneseveneight (talk) 01:37, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Without a reliable source, that is a blanket statement. When there's an hour showing and Zap2it lists it twice, Zap2it will list the episode twice with the same title, which isn't the case here. Production code 202 is also not listed anywhere currently. Amaury (talk | contribs) 01:52, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikias are not reliable for anything. Amaury (talk | contribs) 04:10, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have put a note under "Stuck in the Waterpark - The Movie" regarding the two episode titles used after Disney Channel started reairing the movie in two parts, which began on February 7. (Also, note my edit summary here.) "Stuck in the Waterpark" is the first part, and "Stuck in the Aqualympics" is the second, according to what I saw in the TV listings, but also backed by Zap2it, both parts which I cite in the note. Now, the question that's likely to be raised later: will this be counted here as one episode, or two? MPFitz1968 (talk) 10:09, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

One set of credits indicates one episode. Amaury (talk | contribs) 15:19, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Meh... I know that Geraldo Perez's take. I'm in the camp that says – "If it consistently airs as a 1-hour episode (with a single set of credits) from now on, then count it as "one episode"; but after the premiere airing, if it consistently airs as two separate episodes (with separate credits), then count it as "two episodes"." So, if Disney keeps airing it as separate episodes from here on in, I'd vote that we split the entry, and include a note that it premiered as a 1-hour "Stuck in the Waterpark – The Movie". --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:34, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's also worth noting that The Futon Critic doesn't have this listed as it's not really a new episode. (Inviting Geraldo Perez and Nyuszika7H.) Amaury (talk | contribs) 21:21, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Amazon sells it as a 46minute episode. Article should be documenting original airing, not reruns. Geraldo Perez (talk) 21:30, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I agree, original airing plus digital distribution on Amazon/iTunes is what counts. Disney often changes things one way or the other for re-runs and syndication to other countries' Disney Channels and other channels/providers like Netflix. Honestly I don't understand why, just make it one way and be done with it. Especially for re-runs on the same channel, but even for syndication it seems unnecessary. Not even for other Disney Channels but for something like Netflix it's really unnecessary to split the episodes. nyuszika7h (talk) 17:47, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Stuck with a Bad Influence - scheduled to air May 24, 2017, but...

edit

I'm looking at Screener's (Zap2it's) entry for that episode, which shows May 24 for "First aired", but below it says We're sorry, there are no national broadcasts of this TV show in the next two weeks. Well, with today being May 12, the scheduled air date is now within two weeks (12 days from now), and for there to be no scheduled runs of the episode in that part of the page makes me think that May 24 will not be the air date. Will leave the air date in the article at this time, though the source has conflicting information. (Plus, May 24 is a Wednesday, not the usual day of the week Disney Channel runs new episodes - aside from when they go week-long with a show, but that's not the case here.) Also, The Futon Critic and Disney ABC Press have not updated their sites for that or later episodes. MPFitz1968 (talk) 16:01, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Went ahead and used strikethru on the date for that episode, per conflict in the reference. Not exactly sure if that's the best way to handle this issue. MPFitz1968 (talk) 16:18, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Season 3

edit

Just a heads up in case IPs or other users start trying to add this. Supposedly Stuck in the Middle has been renewed: [1] (I don't know the link to the original tweet.) If this is the case, hopefully Disney Channel actually announces it, unlike they did with Bunk'd. Pinging Geraldo Perez, IJBall, MPFitz1968, and Nyuszika7H. Amaury (talk | contribs) 14:26, 24 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Update: Apparently production begins next week according to Ariana Greenblatt: [2] Click the image there to see the whole thing. (Note: The tweet is just from a random user, which is why I'm saying "apparently," but it contains an Instagram post from Ariana herself.) So what, is Disney Channel not announcing season renewals now? *insert confused face here* Geraldo Perez, MPFitz1968, IJBall, Nyuszika7H. Amaury (talk | contribs) 00:05, 28 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
We may not officially know what is happening until they start airing new episodes. We presume a series is continuing unless we get an ending official word or a year has passed since last ep. We don't want to add production info from unverified sources. Geraldo Perez (talk) 00:46, 28 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Geraldo Perez: Definitely agree. Until something is announced, there should be nothing mentioned in the article. I just find it odd how both Bunk'd and Stuck in the Middle have allegedly been renewed—with the former supposedly beginning production next month and the latter supposedly beginning production this month—but it's like Disney Channel is keeping quite on that. Season two finale

edit

The normal procedure is that, outside of announcements, a season finale date can be added once there's data for the next season; however, the data here comes from a tweet and I think it would be better to wait until there are season three episodes listed on The Futon Critic and Zap2it before adding the season two finale date. Amaury (talk | contribs) 02:37, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Update: Zap2it now has "Stuck at Christmas" listed, which airs on December 8 ([3]). However, they are putting it in season 2 at this time ([4]), while Disney ABC Press has it under season 3 ([5]). So right now, it is not clear whether "Stuck in the Diaz Awards" (which aired October 27) is the final season 2 episode or not, though "Christmas" does have a season 3 production code. MPFitz1968 (talk) 08:26, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
This may end up being a situation like "A Christmas Tori" then (see: here) – a "special" holiday episode that airs in one season, despite having a production code from the next season. We'll need to see how this plays out... --IJBall (contribstalk) 13:29, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Most likely it will be season three. Before the second seasons of Kirby Buckets and Gamer's Guide to Pretty Much Everything premiered, Zap2it was listing the known upcoming episodes at the time as part of the first season. That was later fixed. Amaury (talk | contribs) 00:41, 10 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm reading the tweet sourcing the air date for "Christmas" [6]. Verified account of Disney Channel's media relations department, and stating "The Movie, kicks off season three of #StuckintheMiddle on Friday, December 8 @ 8 pm on Disney Channel". I would still wait till there's agreement with Zap2it in this matter, but wanted to make note of what the tweet actually says. MPFitz1968 (talk) 23:53, 18 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
MPFitz1968, IJBall, that solves that. Zap2it has updated with Disney Channel's January premieres and Stuck in the Middle's "movie" on Friday is now properly part of season three. Amaury (talk | contribs) 23:54, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Stuck at Christmas – The Movie

edit

As I mentioned in Season two finale above, Zap2it has placed "Stuck at Christmas" under season two. But they have now added two more entries scheduled for December 16 (Saturday) [7]: "Stuck in a Christmas Road Trip" and "Stuck in a Christmas Race". The former is shown as "S2, E23", while the latter has an unusual "S2, E302". Hmmm. Also, regarding those two, given the air date above, I have a feeling they will be "Stuck at Christmas" split into two parts, similar to "Stuck in the Waterpark – The Movie" being split into "Stuck in the Waterpark" and "Stuck in the Aqualympics". Guess we'll have to stay tuned. MPFitz1968 (talk) 15:36, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Once this airs this coming Friday, we can probably insert the season two end date as by that point it's obvious that there have been no episode premieres between October 27 and December 8. I don't know if you noticed, but Rachel is nowhere to be seen in the promo for the "movie." Now, yes, there have always been promos that don't show all the characters/plots, giving us the illusion that all or some of the characters not shown are absent when they are indeed present, but specials are different and show all the characters/plots. For example, "Stuck in the Babysitting Nightmare," if I recall, did not show the boys and Tom in the promo, but everyone was present in that episode.
Anyway, word on the street is that Ronni Hawk left Stuck in the Middle before season three production began, though I don't know if Disney Channel as well. It was on good terms in order to work on other stuff from what I know. There's an episode dedicated to her leaving, probably Rachel leaving for college or something, but she's not a main cast member anymore, and that may or may not be the only episode she appears in as a guest star. Once the episode airs, we can confirm that with the opening credits, but there's currently no official announcement. Amaury (talk | contribs) 19:30, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Amaury: I'm reading from an article at Just Jared Jr. (won't allow me to link as the web site is blacklisted on Wikipedia) that Hawk will be around for season three; she was working on another project at the time of the production of the "Christmas" movie. I'm not 100% sure about its reliability (this is mainly a source geared toward a teen audience which reports about celebrity life), but unless something from a more reliable outlet says otherwise, I'd say she hasn't left. We'll need to check the opening credits in the later season three episodes to make sure this is the case.

I have already previewed "Stuck at Christmas" on Watch Disney (at this pretty late hour LOL), and Rachel is said to be spending the holidays in France with one of her friends and their family. MPFitz1968 (talk) 10:33, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@MPFitz1968: You're spot on! At this time, it's just alleged, and, like you say, we shouldn't add anything until we have something conclusive like with Jake Paul or Mace Coronel. Amaury (talk | contribs) 16:27, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Amaury: Just bought this movie on Amazon very late last night—well, volume 5 (or "105" as they have it) of the series, which should have the first ten or so episodes of season three. Was noticing the picture representing this volume, and Rachel (Hawk) is not in it [8]. As I said in my post yesterday, we'll need to see how the future episodes' opening credits look, but that pic certainly may drop yet another hint. MPFitz1968 (talk) 18:40, 9 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Note regarding Ronni Hawk in season three

edit

Only actors who are main cast members should be listed as absent when they are absent. Absences of actors who are not main cast members and guest stars—recurring or otherwise—should not be noted. Amaury (talk | contribs) 21:49, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Agreed – the note is clear that that she was not credited for that episode. That said, I will add "...and did not appear." to that note, just to make it super clear. --IJBall (contribstalk) 22:22, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Episode 3.19

edit

Once production codes are available, specifically 319, we can resolve this. In addition, the air dates I added yesterday, there were also three additional episodes added, and one of those is 319. As there's no rush, there's no harm in leaving it until we get confirmation, even if we're already pretty sure. It's also worth noting that all of the season three episodes are listed in the table right now. There were 22 ordered, and 21 are listed right now, which is because of the first episode which was merged for presentation. The series finale will be on July 23, that much should be obvious, though as obvious as it is, we'll need confirmation once again. There's also an episode called "Killer App" which is the first not to begin with "Stuck..." I am rather curious on that one. Amaury (talk | contribs) 13:20, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

As a followup, those two episodes have since been removed from Zap2it. I'm guessing "Killer App" was either a plain mistake or an episode title from another series placed there by mistake. ("Stuck with a Killer App" would have a nice ring to it, though!) Episode 3.19 is one of the titles for the July episodes ("Stuck in Diaz Court," according to the Wikia). Here's the dilemma: Both the Deadline Hollywood reference sourcing the number of S3 episodes and The Futon Critic have 22 production episodes for S3. While it's not tagged as such on Zap2it, "Stuck in Harley's Quinceañera" is the season—and series—finale, and it seems even more evident by the fact that it will air on July 23 at 8:30 PM after Andi Mack plus what it will be about. S3 has had one double-length special: "Stuck at Christmas – The Movie" as production episodes 301 and 302. That means that after the season finale, if 22 episodes were ordered, we should have 21 aired episodes. The problem is that after the season finale, there will only be 20 aired episodes, like season two. Even unreliable Wikia isn't listing any #322 episode, and it would be the type of place to have something like that with all of the trivia they like to list. There's an episode that got started, but didn't get filmed, isn't airing, etc. or there's a typo in the press release. Amaury (talk | contribs) 08:28, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

We quote the source in the article – if it says "22", we say 22, even if it ends up being just 21. We'll probably not get an explanation for this, so it'll just be one of those things that we can never explain... --IJBall (contribstalk) 14:39, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Update: Those two episodes are still listed, just at the bottom of Zap2it. Episode 3.19 seems to definitely be "Stuck in Diaz Court" according to the Wikia. (We can't use them as a source, obviously, but they're usually not wrong on information like this.) The bigger one of interest here is "Killer App," though. I wonder if we're going to have a similar case to Bunk'd here, where the intended season two finale "We Didn't Start the Fire" aired in regular prime time at 6:00 PM on April 28, 2017, but, for some reason, "The Great Escape" was held back and randomly aired at 10:30 PM on May 24, 2017. To further complicate things there, airing that when they did caused continuity errors as the "The Great Escape" is #213 and "We Didn't Start the Fire" is #221, where the cabins burned down. The discussion on the matter can be found here: Talk:List of Bunk'd episodes#Potential missing episode here. Amaury (talk | contribs) 15:00, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@IJBall, MPFitz1968, and Geraldo Perez: Hm. Now things are getting complicated. Both Deadline Hollywood and The Futon Critic report 22 episodes ordered for S3, as I mentioned above, but reading the Deadline Hollywood article again, here's the interesting bit: The 22-episode third and final season of Stuck In the Middle will begin airing this summer. The series has produced 59 episodes in total.. Emphasis mine. Adding the production episodes ordered for each season, we have: 17 + 21 + 22 = 60. The problem is obvious. The only way to get 59 is by using the number of aired episodes for S2 rather than the number of production episodes if that's how they're counting, but I doubt that's how they count them, which would then make it 17 + 20 + 22 = 59. But that doesn't make sense, either, with it seeming to be that there's no #322, unless we have a situation like Bunk'd which would give us that 60. If we have a mistake, then the actual count would be 17 + 21 + 21 = 59. Amaury (talk | contribs) 15:40, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
