Lack of Villains

Why were the descriptions of Rodyle, Abyssion, Misc. Villains (like Dorr and the Pope), and Martel removed? They are all major characters in the story, so they should be included. Patrician Vetinari 13:13, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I agree! They shouldn't have been removed. They are important to the story especially Kvar, Rodyle, and Pronyma.--Mithos64 23:56, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey yeah! Where did the section for Martel and Abyssion go? Those are important characters, especially Martel. ToSfan4ever 15/8/2006

I've revived and shortened the Martel section. Since her death causes the events of ToS to take place, I feel that she deserves to be here. Patrician Vetinari 12:58, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
This may be off topic, but Dorr wasn't a villain. Neither were Yuan or Botta (well, not exactly...) Random the Scrambled Vandalism and other nonsense! 15:19, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Oops, forgot to change my sig back. If you want to know what all this is about, see my talk page. Random the Scrambled 15:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I know that Dorr was only trying to save Clara, but, by aiding the Desians, he opposed the main party. He was also responsible for Chocolat's arrest. Yes, he tried to give the party the Book of Regeneration, but he ended up giving it to the imposters, forcing the Chosen to travel to Hakonesia Peak in order to get it. The only real time he was beneficial to Lloyd's group was when he lay dying, by which time it was almost too late. As he did not actually aid the party, I don't really think that he should be considered an "ally", as such. Patrician Vetinari 21:47, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, yes. But since it was unintentional, those acts don't really make him a "villain"... Random the Scrambled 00:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I just think that, since Dorr opposed the party more than he aided it, he should probably be considered a "villain", rather than an "ally". Actually, I think that a more approppriate term for Dorr would be "opposition" than "villain", so we should probably refer to him as that. Patrician Vetinari 13:08, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree. It's just that the first word that comes to mind when I hear "villain" is "evil", and Dorr wasn't quite that, now was he? Random the Scrambled 13:33, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Speaking of Villians, was there ever an "allies" section for the villians, and if there was, where is it now? If there isn't, I think there should be one. ToSfan4ever 17/8/2006

There was one, but it was removed, for some reason. It listed such characters as the Pope, Dorr, and Vharley. In fact, this thread was created in the first place because of its removal. The only issue with re-creating it would be the overall size of the article; the longer it is, the less readability there is. Re-creating it and making it even longer would also cause some internet browsers to cut the page off unexpectedly.
Shouldn't Kuchinawa Be In The "Villains" Section? He wasn't the most important villain, but he had a major role in Sheena's story. Also, he comes up many times when talking with Orochi, and he also interrupts the team on a couple of occasions. I don't know about you all, but I think Kuchinawa should be added. When it comes to Dorr, he really isn't a "villain". He wasn't really going against the group. Also, like somewhere above, he's not exactly evil. Also, if someone does add Dorr, there will be alot of talk about taking him off. MonkeyMukund 01:59, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Relationships/Pairings/Couples?

Sorry, but is the information on possible relationships/pairings/couples really required? I don't think it needs a whole section to itself, as all of these pairings are simple speculation (rather than fact). This particular section doesn't really explain much, either; it only gives the pet-names of certain pairings. While these may be self-explanatory, I'm afraid that I don't think that a list of the possible pairings is really necessary. Patrician Vetinari 13:13, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

There is a section for relationships in Lloyd, but none in any of the other character Bios, either someone writes the relationships for them in each bio, or this section stays, but in my opinion, there are other cartoons/Animes where there is a sections for relationships. And I think it would be a hassel to write every relationship in each person's bio. Yes I know, Lloyd is the main protagonist and the game's feature is designed for him, so that's why it's necessary, but some fans are currently also writing essays to support what they think of the pairings in ToS. To you it may not be necessary, to me it doesn't matter, it's just more information for this game. Well that's all that I think.

I would say that, as Lloyd's relationships with the different characters eventually decide the very course of the game (ie, the Kratos vs. Zelos debate, or the character who Lloyd travels around the world to collect the remaining Exspheres with), it is fine for there to be a quick guide of his possible relationships with party members on his page. I just don't think that there really is a need for a section on inter-party relations, at least, not on this page. The canon pairings (like Zelos with Sheena, or Lloyd with Colette) are already hinted at on each character's individual pages, as well. Theoretically, a new page about the inter-party relationships could be created, if enough information on these pairings could be gathered. I just don't think that it really has a place on a list of characters, per se, but could be better suited in a different area. Patrician Vetinari 19:52, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

The only reason why I posted in the Characeter section was because in a cartoon, its Character section had relationships. Well it's good we're negotiating, so yes, I agree I'll put it on a seperate page.

That's much better. In the fairly near future, you'll need to put more information on each of the pairings if you don't want the page to be deleted by administrators, though. Patrician Vetinari 00:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

It's nice to hear that we're both agreeing not to delete the whole thing, for adding info, I plan to, but of course fans and anyone else are more than welcome to add on.

Phillpjfrylock 05:20, 12 April 2007 (UTC)== Rodyle's screenshot is bad ==

There's a machine behind Rodyle that has some sort of illuminated wing-shaped decorations to it. That's stupid. People who have never played Tales of Symphonia before will think that Rodyle is a winged villain. --Nin 11:52, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, I always assumed that the symbolism was intentional. Since Rodyle is a Desian who rebels and plots the destruction of Cruxis, I think that the idea of the "mechanical wings" behind him works quite well. My interpretation is that, because of his decision to rebuild the Mana Cannon, Rodyle is neither an angel of Cruxis nor a Desian. It also reiterates that Rodyle's ambitions are to destroy Cruxis, creating his own new world order in its place. --Patrician Vetinari 21:19, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Its really not that bad since Rodyle is cel-shaded and the machine is not its really easy to tell the difference between him and the machine --User:Phillpjfrylock

Images

It seems that most (if not all) of the images of the protagonists are unsourced. I would argue that, if we include images of the antagonists, we must also include images of the protagonists. This would mean we'd need to find, upload, and source new images for the main party. Any other ideas/opinions? I also think that, if we do get new images, they should be of a similar style. In the previous batch, the styles in one half of the pictures (rougher, more hand-drawn) conflicted with the styles in the other half (cleaner, more anime-esque). Assuming we find new images, we should try to keep continuity in the styles. Any other opinions? Patrician Vetinari 22:41, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I think each of the character articles needs to have the character artwork and an image of them as they appear in the game. Obviously, there's quite a big difference. --SeizureDog 00:30, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

What happened to Lloyad, Genis, Colette, Kratos and Sheena's pictures? Their old pictures were find why were they removed?

They were probably copyrighted images. Best to try to find images that are free to use, or that we have permission to use Jon Fawkes 03:41, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Five Grand Desian Cardinal's Titles?

When was the titles of each Desian Cardinal said in the game? How does anyone know the names like Iron Will Rodyle and others? I don't recall anything like that in the game. Not that I'm complaining about it, I think they're cool, but I'm just wondering how anyone knows of them.

I don't think all of them were mentioned in the game. I may be wrong, I should play through it again to make sure Jon Fawkes 04:19, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Kinda funny how they kept referring to themselves as "the five" even after several had died.
I removed them; I've played though the entire game several times and never heard those names mentioned once.--Neo Zeus 09:09, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Genis is the best character in the game?

I removed a claim of such on account of it being blatantly false and all. Genis is one of the least useful black mages in Tales history, and in my opinion, at least as far as Symphonia is concerned, Raine absolutely blows him out of the water in terms of usefulness. I don't think it's really necessary or appropriate to speculate on who's "best" in the article anyway. 69.234.144.6 09:12, 11 April 2007 (UTC) You are correct. There is no need to state who is the best, because that is completely opinion. Opinion should not be in an encyclopedia. Jon Fawkes 03:39, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, the "Genis is the best" bit was just vandalism. User 69.234.144.6 simply found it and removed it first. Patrician Vetinari 22:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Anna

In the section at the bottom (unless I am reading this incorrectly), it says the Kratos killed Anna. If I am correct, it was Dirk who killed Anna, which was why he apologized to Lloyd in the game. Kratos never said anything about murdering Anna. Jon Fawkes 03:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

No, Kratos admits that he killed Anna during his Flanoir conversation with Lloyd. Dirk did find Anna dying, but it is never said in the game that he was the one that finally ended her life. Patrician Vetinari 14:02, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Is it safe to assume that despite having an angelus-project cruxis crystal growing in her, that Anna was not emotionally/chronologically stunted like Presea? If that's the case, I suppose the question is why.

Merging Mithos

Personally, I don't think we should merge the Mithos Yggdrasill page with the List of characters in Tales of Symphonia page. Mithos is certainly an integral character in the plot; after all, he was the one that split the world in two in the first place. The Mithos page has quite a bit of in-depth coverage about Mithos and his motives, and I think simply giving him a small section on the List of characters in Tales of Symphonia page would not be adequate for the amount of information there is on him. Patrician Vetinari 14:00, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Per Wikipedia:Notability (fiction), characters should be merged into a list. Major characters can receive a separate article if there is enough encyclopedic treatment to warrant it, but the Mithos article consists solely of in-universe information and trivia. This seems like a pretty clear-cut case. Pagrashtak 04:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm still inclined to disagree; Mithos is such a major character in the story. In fact, I would argue that he's far more important than a character like Sheena or Genis, since the events depicted in the game occur solely due to his actions. The List of characters in Tales of Symphonia page is long (and unreadable) enough as it is, and, considering how much information there already is on the Mithos page, merging the two would not be particularly helpful. Is the Mithos page really beyond the help of some clean-ups and a few rewrites? Patrician Vetinari 23:54, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Right, I've done a bit of a clean up of the Mithos page, following the guidelines on the Manual of Style page as best I could. I removed the trivia section and did my best to change the in-universe perspective of the article. Patrician Vetinari 17:15, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Mithos should not be merged. He is such an important character, and he is the one who really symbolizes the games themes of discrimination and racism, and who the heroes and villains really are.--Mithos64 00:02, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Kilovolt-Ampere Reactive

"kVAr" should not redirect to this page. Can someone make it redirect to a disambiguation page that includes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volt-amperes_reactive? I don't know how to do it.

that page talks about VARs, I can't see anything about kVAr, but of course, I don't know exactly what that is. Care to elaborate please? For now, it will remain as a redirect to this page. Jon Fawkes 04:11, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Desian = Tethe'allan?

The new ToS OVA seems to use the two interchangably. That is a detail left out of (at least the english version of) the game.. I never realized that if you pronounce 'tethe'allan' in japanese it comes out like desian.. at least, the 'alla' part seems to use the italian pronunciation.. aya..

No, that was just a mistake made by one of the OVA's translators. They fixed the mistake as soon as they discovered it. Patrician Vetinari 19:56, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Niflheim?

Should Niflheim really be listed in the Tales of Symphonia characters? I mean, it's a world, not a character. Cutepresea 22:18, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

AFD closure result: Sheena Fujibayashi

regarding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sheena Fujibayashi

I have closed the mentioned AFD discussion as "merge→List of characters in Tales of Symphonia". Consequently, I have placed mergeto and mergefrom templates at approrpriate places. I will not make a first-pass merger attempt at this time myself, as it would appear that a person familiar with the topic is needed to appropriately trim Sheena Fujibayashi while retaining satisfactory content. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 14:37, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Expanding character information

As this is an encyclopedia, should there be some place that expands on each character's background and actions within the game? --Dubtiger (talk) 02:36, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Do you mean an article for each major character? Those existed not too long ago, but were deleted, one by one, due to their lack of notability. Patrician Vetinari (talk) 05:57, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Voice actors, other appearences

In what other appearences are Brian Beacock and Tara Platt voicing Lloyd and Raine? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.2.239 (talk) 06:54, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology (and possibly Soulcalibur Legends for Lloyd), I would assume. Cutepresea (talk) 08:08, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
