MxPx

edit

I've never noticed MxPx being in a Simpsons episode. Apparently they're on this list since the beginning of the wiki. Were they ever involved, or are they just added to the list because it's their dream to do so? Can anyone tell me which episode would feature MxPx then?

Straal 09:37, 30 Aug 2004 (UTC)

MxPx is no longer listed, so I suppose it was a mistake then?

Straal 14:41, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Is this list ordered with a particular structure? If not, then will alphabetical or chronological order (of guest appearance) be most appropriate? –– Constafrequent (talk page) 07:23, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Episode List

edit

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to change the name list to a table including the episode title, and code?

Seems great to me. Been searching for a list like that. Couldn't find it. Garion96 20:36, 26 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I started doing this. It will take a while, but should not be too hard to get done eventually.--Gangster Octopus 17:20, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sounds great!! How is it coming along? That might also help Constafrequents question about sorting the list. SilentGuy 17:57, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Impersonated voices

edit

"This list does not include those celebrities whose voices have merely been impersonated."

Why not? We ought to have a list of these somewhere. Without it, I can see names being repeatedly added by someone and then removed by someone else claiming that the voice was impersonated. For example, what about Bill Gates? -- Smjg 09:44, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

There is now an article List of celebrities who have been parodied on The Simpsons. A perfect place for Bill Gates since he and (most?) impersonated voices are parodies. 172.128.77.176 19:06, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Shame this article has been deleted before I had the chance to see it. Does anybody have a backup? -- Smjg 00:18, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Birth Years

edit

Is there any reason at all to have the birthyears listed after the names? I don't think it's really relevent to the article... SilentGuy 17:58, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Changing the List

edit

I've decided to start changing the listing guests under each episode. It will take a while but it will be a little less confusing because so many non-Wikipedia members keep ading guest stars who haven't even been in the episode.

UPDATE: I'm done. IT took a LONG time. I only mentioned Guest Stars but if anyone wants to add the "also starring" irregulars, go ahead. And I only mentioned key appearances of Marcia Wallace and Phil Hartman so if anyone wants to add more, feel free. ~Scorpion0422

Moved Page

edit

I moved the page from "List of Celebrities on The Simpsons" to "List of Guest Stars on The Simpsons". This is because there have been several non-celebrity guest stars on The Simpsons, and just saying celebrities and not guest stars says that the list contains celebrity impersonations. ~Scorpion0422

Phil Hartman

edit

I know that he was an invaluable part of the show, but he was in it so much, wasn't he more of a regular and shouldn'y be listed here? --kralahome 00:54, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

He was a credited guest star. And I just figured it made sense to list him here since he doesn't guest star anymore.

Sideshow Bob's first appearance

edit

Season one "The Telltale Head" was Kelsey Grammer credited normally or as a guest star. Your list says there were no guest stars in that episode.

If memory serves, then his appearance in that episode was non-speaking and he was just briefly seen. -- Scorpion0422 13:36, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I can confirm; Marcia Wallace was the only guest star credited in that episode. Sideshow Bob didn't speak prior to Krusty Gets Busted, he always played the slide whistle. 137.222.107.55 12:39, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Format

edit

I think the list format itself could be a bit better. Maybe something with tables, and then take advantage of the new "sortable" table class. Thoughts? -- Ned Scott 03:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Propose to remove episode codes

edit

I don't think it's common among the Simpsons pages on wiki to identify episodes primarily on their episode code - usually, just the episode name is used. I don't see any benefit in having episodes identified this way on this page.

For instance, I would change:

to

(Not sure about whether the ep names should be quoted - is there a policy for that, seems inconsistent across wiki.)

I'm not going to make a change without consensus because the page is going for 'featured' status so not a good time to make sweeping edits. But I think it would be an improvement --Mortice 17:18, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Why were they all removed? those really filled it out and in my opinion were the best part of this article.. showing the scope of the article in imagery. Unless you're planning something Scorpion0422, I think they should stay.WarBaCoN 06:41, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

We're trying to get the article featured apparantly having images when they aren't really needed could hurt our chances. -- Scorpion0422 06:50, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I can't comment on the requirements for Featured Article status, but it's a shame to lose pictures for casual browsers --Mortice 18:21, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
D'oh maybe we can put them back later.. --WarBaCoN 18:43, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I quite liked the images and I thought they added to the article, but I guess there was some issue that they were "fair use" or something like that. -- Scorpion0422 18:47, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually, if these were freely-licensed images, you could have added these for decoration as much as you would like to. "Fair use" means that it is a copyrighted work that is being used in Wikipedia under very strict rules, which include using them to make an important addition to the list's information. Michaelas10 (Talk) 13:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Is that *really* Gillian Anderson? ---Axios023 (talk) 05:58, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I fully disagree (with WarBaCoN, I agree with Scorpion0422 about there being unneeded photos). I find the current article to be absurd. There is a massive gap in the article where the photos of numerous (but not all) of the celebrity guest-stars are listed vertically. This is ridiculous.
Not only does it destroy the formatting of the article (white a huge chunk of amateur-looking whitespace), but it adds a lot of bandwidth overhead to loading the page. Just because you may have an OC3 connection does not mean that everybody does. Further, even when loading from a cache, lengthening the page by that much slows browsers down when scrolling or navigating back and forth, etc. and uses a lot of memory (again, just because you have an i7 with 64GB of RAM does not mean everybody does—think globally!) As it stands, the page is extremely painful to load and navigate unless you have a fast connection and computer.
Another problem is that most of the photos in the list are pointless. While some of them make sense to stand out (Hartman, Shatner, Blair, Hawking…), many of them are not noteworthy enough to be singled out like that nor do the photos or their captions provide any new information that isn’t already present in the tables (Actress Lucy Lawless appeared in season 11; so what? Actress Reese Witherspoon voiced Greta Wolfcastle; yeah, that’s already in the list…) Synetech (talk) 01:21, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Do you want to move this to its own section? Because the discussion you've "responded" to ended four years ago and was unrelated to any of your points (the images were removed because they were fair use). Anyway as for your concerns: 1. Image stacking - This seems to be an inevitable issue for some browsers. There doesn't seem to be a way to 'fix' it, nor a policy against including images in such a way (see List of Survivor (U.S. TV series) contestants which has the same format and number of images). 2. There's too many images/it's too long - Again, see the Survivor list. Another user suggested at the article's peer review that there should be more images. I know they add size to the article but otherwise it would be a bland list with nothing next to it. At present seasons 11-23 have no images by them at all. On terms of selectivity I had to make to avoid biases in terms of who I like best, who I think is most famous and ensure an even coverage of all 23 seasons. 3. The images are pointless - well I totally disagree. So, I'm not fobbing off your concerns but I just don't want to lose the images and don't know of any way to solve your concerns without losing them. If you can find a policy explaining what should be done, and that anything in the present article is expressley discouraged, that'd be great. Gran2 08:21, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bill Gates in Das Bus

edit

Does anyone know who does Bill Gates voice in the episode Das Bus this is the one where Homer starts his own Internet business and Bill Gates decides to "buy him out." The end credits don't mention it and I don't see it listed anywhere, would like to add Bill Gates into this episode but don't know who did his voice. I know it is not Bill himself as his name is not listed in the credits either. 202.169.221.138 (talk) 22:22, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

It sounds like Hank Azaria to me. Bill (talk|contribs) 03:40, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

De facto

edit

There are several non-regular voices who make appearances but are credited as "also starring" and not guest voices. These voices are not mentioned here. As well, Marcia Wallace has made many de facto appearances and has always been credited as a guest star. Only the episodes in which her character Edna Krabappel plays a significant role are mentioned here.

De facto guest stars

  • Phil Hartman as Troy McClure, Lionel Hutz, Lyle Lanley, Evan Conover, Mr. Muntz, Horst, Big Brother Tom, Various announcers, Charlton Heston, Moses, Bill Clinton, and others
  • Marcia Wallace as Edna Krabappel

Could someone explain the above means? jnestorius(talk) 16:38, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

De facto means "in fact," generally opposed to de jure "in law." It is used to describe an actual situation or common practice that is not recognized by law or written records.
I guess that the editor who wrote the description above misunderstands the usual usage of the term. Phil Hartman and Marcia Wallace are for all intents and purposes regular cast members, though they are listed as guest stars. The phrasing above, "De facto guest stars," would suggest that they are in fact occasional guest but named as regular cast members. The truth is opposite to what this suggests. The Sopranos

edit

There are some actor from the sopranos who are missing in the list... We find Imperioli but no mention of Tony Sirico (Paulie) or Steven Van Zandt (Silvio)... They appear in the episode in the season 13... http://www.simpsonspark.com/references/refs_serie_soprano.php —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.47.102.179 (talk) 13:56, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

People Parodied on the Simpsons

edit

I think that there shpuld really be a list or an article about people who have been parodied on the simpsons.Al the least it should mention celebrities who didn't cameo but were voiced by other people.--212.12.183.130 (talk) 14:32, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

You need to go here. Gran2 14:58, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I know about that, but shouldn't it also be mentioned here, as it is releveant.212.12.183.130 (talk) 06:34, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Well, no, it isn't relevant. This is a list of people who have guest starred on the show. People who have been parodied would belong on a different list. And that would be a list of largely trivia which doesn't belong here. Gran2 09:25, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Page is far too long

edit

Split WP:LENGTH recommends c. 50 kb in length. This is over 300. It's one of the longest pages on en.wp and breaks many browsers. This needs to be split into something like List of The Simpsons guest stars (A–J), List of The Simpsons guest stars (K–R) and List of The Simpsons guest stars (S–Z). —Justin (koavf)TCM 09:04, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. Splitting the list would render it pointless. Why is length, in an of itself, a bad thing? I have crappy download speed and it loads fully in less than two seconds. You say it "breaks many browsers" yet, although I may be mistaken, you're the only person who has ever complained and nobody mentioned anything at the FLC. I'm not saying that proves your opinion is wrong, clearly the list is very long, but I don't see this is an issue. As the tag you added states: "too long to read and navigate comfortably". Well, I fail to see how anybody could think that. Navigation is in no way impeded by length. Gran2 09:17, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I also disagree. WP:LENGTH is more a guideline for articles, not lists. With this solution, all the information is in one place, you can look up the information, sorted by season, name or role. If we split it into three subarticles, you would be unable to do that. The overall download size is not larger than most webpages away from from Wikipedia, so I don't consider that a problem.
If you have an error in a certain browser, then please report it, so we can fix the bug. --Maitch (talk) 10:15, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Need images of them on the show next to their real life images

edit

I see no point in showing pictures of the real people if you don't also have a picture of how they were animated into The Simpsons. Dream Focus 23:41, 29 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well the problem is the images are used largely as decoration, which is fine because they are free-use. But images from the show are fair-use and it isn't fine to use them as decoration. Gran2 11:42, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Seasons 16 and 17 are uncolored here (or more specifically, incorrectly colored yellow). They have come out on DVD and 16 is pink and 17 is blue. Kevin Michael Richardson

edit

I've been working to keep this list up to date and accurate lately, but it's become abundantly clear that since the Season 28 production cycle that Kevin Michael Richardson has moved from being a recurring guest star to joining the likes of Tress MacNeille, Pamela Hayden, etc. as in the "Also starring" cast now (he's even now credited as such). I feel as such his appearances in Season 28 and 29 should be removed and his joining the regulars at this point be noted in the main introductions. I am willing to make such edits (including to the multiple appearances) to reflect this but wanted to be sure fellow editors were on the same page as me on this matter before going ahead with it. Thoughts?

P.S. If there are no objections by the end of the month, I shall go ahead with aforementioned plans.--121.99.116.86 (talk) 14:22, 16 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Image train display

edit

The images are displayed in a long train on the right of the screen, prior to the table itself, with mostly blank space requiring a long scroll to get to the table. Something is messed up, but don't know what the original intent was. Can I suggest the images be made smaller and put next to the person in the table as a separate column, see List of Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction winners (FA). -- GreenC 14:16, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Chris Ledesma's blog should be considered as an authentic and verified source

edit

It has been challenged that the blog entries written by Simpsons music editor Chris Ledesma at https://simpsonsmusic500.wordpress.com/ should not be considered a verified and authentic source of information recently because the format it takes is a blog. I dispute this under the "subject-matter expert" clause and believe that the source should be considered appropriate for references. Ledesma works directly for the show and this is his official blog he has had since 2011, not just the work of a fan. This is verified as his official blog and his official twitter even has said blog linked in the header at https://twitter.com/mxedtr (which is considered an appropriate source) by Ledesma himself. It had also been considered a perfectly reasonable source for almost a decade, but suddenly is not. For these reasons I believe that the recent declaration that the source isn't authentic, verified and viable are false and that Ledesma's blog fits the criteria to be considered and legitimate reference for this and other wikipedia pages. --Manacek (talk) 08:15, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of The Simpsons guest starsList of The Simpsons guest stars (season 21–present) – This list only covers guest stars from Season 21 onwards, so the title should specify that. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 22:14, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose; there is no reason the article can't be expanded to cover previous season guest stars, and as such we should not narrow the title to preclude such expansion. Should the article become too long upon their inclusion, then we can split it and use names like this. BilledMammal (talk) 08:35, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I too was going to oppose until I discovered List of The Simpsons guest stars (seasons 1–20). Why this salient article wasn’t mentioned in the nom is beyond me. —В²C 15:09, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Support per nom and precedent at Talk:List of The Simpsons episodes (season 21–present)#Requested move 11 July 2021. The article should reflect its content. In this case, the article is only for part of the show's run. This was already hashed out in the linked RM. Gonnym (talk) 14:10, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per SmokeyJoe – the unattributed split is concerning, as is the FL status. It may be prudent to re-merge (if possible, I'm not certain how practical it is) and look into properly splitting the list later (I can certainly see an argument for splitting, given the length, but that should be discussed separately.) • Comment We could do what we did with a few of the episode lists and create a central page, though that was due to technical limitations surrounding episode lists, and I am unsure if whether or not these articles would have the same problem. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 16:39, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support It may well be correct that the merge and FL status need to be re-examined, but both are outside the scope of this RM. Pending a wider discussion, this article needs a name which reflects its current content. Havelock Jones (talk) 10:18, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is not remotely outside the scope. The move is being proposed away from a very long-term title, on the basis of a split which should never have happened. It is within our jurisdiction to say "not on your nelly".  — Amakuru (talk) 22:55, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Strong oppose and re-merge per SmokeyJoe. We should not be fiddling around with the title of a page which was split without consensus. It should go back to the status quo.  — Amakuru (talk) 22:53, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support move and/or size split - Move or split this large page, and make this into a dab page, but ensure proper attribution for splits and moves. --Jax 0677 (talk) 00:08, 24 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
