Talk:List of Wheeler Dealers episodes

This article is getting a bit long and unwieldy, which I suppose is a good thing that the show has lasted 16 series! But it does make it hard to browse. It seems to me that a tidy-up is needed; in particular the Notes sections are turning into mini-essays of uninteresting trivia: do we really care where/from whom the car was bought, or to whom it was sold? I'd appreciate feedback before I wade in with a metaphorical hedgetrimmer... Louis Knee (talk) 23:35, 9 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I would probably keep the notes where Mike buys the car from a foreign country and has it shipped back to the workshop if you don't agree with adding where specifically the cars were bought from, but I agree certain notes are unnecessary like "First Japanese car featured on the show" etc. When I expanded the article a few years ago to update the fixes, the notes on each car were pretty sparse. But I don't think it's getting too unwieldy, it's only natural when the show, as you said, has lasted 16 series. Personally I find info like where they were bought/where they were sold to a nice touch, but definitely not "useless trivia". Probably don't even need to mention if they were bought on eBay? Never really understood the importance over that. Just my two cents TheHeartbreakKid15 (talk) 22:25, 10 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
eBay I think is a good example of why I'm asking: the first couple of times Mike used it he gave hints on how to use the site; now it just gets name-checked in passing. So a note that he talks about eBay is useful, but just that it's mentioned isn't. And on top of that we now have the question of whether 20-year-old eBay advice is interesting... I suppose my question here is partly about what we think that readers are trying to get from the page. Louis Knee (talk) 00:30, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I agree with the eBay mentioning. It's good the first times he uses it, but not to keep repeating it. It would be nice to show how the series has evolved in terms of leaving certain bits of trivia, but REALLY trivial bits are unnecessary like first Japanese car, first American car, former company car etc. TheHeartbreakKid15 (talk) 17:23, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Notes

edit

I haven't contributed properly to this page for a good few years but the recent series' notes do need trimming. Wheeler Dealers Revisited was a one off special which was basically a Where Are They Now show but personally I've never seen it. TheHeartbreakKid15 (talk) 17:43, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Episode numbering

edit

s13e09 is the "best of" episode, the Bronco episode is the #10. I hate best ofs as much as the next man, but we have to follow the official numbering. --Ihaveacatonmydesk (talk) 22:53, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Right now, the Discovery UK page ( https://www.discoveryuk.com/series/wheeler-dealers/?ss=13#episodes ) lists s13e09 and s13e18 as "Best Of" and "Best Of #2" (indeed s13e10 is the Bronco), and similarly s15e09 and s15e18 as the "Best Of" and "Best Of 2" for that series (LandCruiser is s15e26); this means that the episode numbering of the main table is wrong! What is the source for the present episode numbering? (Note that the Special Episodes table is consistent both internally and with the Discovery UK site.) Louis Knee (talk) 13:37, 25 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I've gone through seasons 11-14 and made the episode numbers consistent with the Discovery UK site, referenced in each table's header row. (I will do 15 soon.) For seasons 14 and 15 the episode numbers don't match the order in which the episodes are listed which is by "original airdate", presumably in the US? I'm not going to re-order the table at this stage. Louis Knee (talk) 23:02, 25 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Just done season 15 too. There are still a couple of "original airdate" missing. Louis Knee (talk) 23:38, 25 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also just done seasons 3 and 7 - the Discovery UK site numbering doesn't match the "original airdate" listed here, which is presumably the UK date for these early series? Confirms my feeling that episode numbering is meaningless (see below). I'm not going to re-order the entire table. Louis Knee (talk) 16:58, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm concerned about the episode numbering. For example, VW Rabbit GTi is listed as s15e02 by Discovery UK but was (previously) listed as s15e07 right here, is s16e07 on IMDB... and when I watched it on TV a couple of months ago the EPG listed it as s15e06. Conversely, "season 15 episode 07" could refer to the Dodge Ram SRT-10 (Discovery UK), VW Rabbit GTi (old page here), Datsun 510 (IMDB), or even the Jensen-Healey (my TV's EPG a few weeks back)! If there isn't a (cited) authoritative source for the episode numbering then the "#" column should be deleted completely from this article. Note that for now I've cited the Discovery UK site, so at least there's a trail. Louis Knee (talk) 13:14, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
N.B. that tonight's showing of "Datsun is Shining" - 1969 Datsun Roadster is listed in the EPG as s.16 ep.08 (first broadcast 31 Aug. 2020), with next week's "Avant-ed Audi" - Audi S4 Avant as s.16 ep.03 (first broadcast 7 Sep. 2020), again consistent with Discovery UK. --Louis Knee (talk) 10:31, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Next s16 eps: "Saab's Your Uncle" - 2001 Saab 9-3 s.16 ep.04 (first broadcast 14 Sep. 2020), "Cayenne You Dig It" - 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S s.16 ep.07 (first broadcast 21 Sep. 2020)
"A Lotta Miata" - 2004 MX-5 Mazdaspeed s.16 ep.01 (first broadcast 28 Sep. 2020), "Jeepin' It Real" - 1979 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade s.16 ep.05 (first broadcast 5 Oct. 2020), "Zed-Ex" - Nissan 300ZX twin turbo s.16 ep.06 (first broadcast 12 Oct. 2020)
"This Horse Needs To Be Put Out" - ...help a young member of the team by fixing up his 4-litre V6 2007 Mustang s.16 ep.15 (first broadcast 19 Oct. 2020): sounds like a best-of? --Louis Knee (talk) 16:08, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

The whole episode listing from series 14 onwards is convoluted and confusing as heck, but luckily there isn't actually any continuity problems in terms of viewing order. TheHeartbreakKid15 (talk) 17:25, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes... unfortunately we get lumbered with filling out episode numbers by the template used for the table :( I think I have it mostly under control now though! Louis Knee (talk) 14:55, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have moved e22 (Fiat 124 Spider) and e26 (Landcruiser) from part II of S15 to part III (following move of e19 (BMW M3) a while ago). Part II appeared to be ordered by first broadcast date (not given for e22 and e26), implying these were first aired between e15 (Jensen-Healey) and e16 (Plymouth Barracuda) but the latter already have airdates on successive days! Part III had a gap in the dates between e21 and e23, so I've put e22 there and e26 at the end, so both later Parts of s15 are listed in episode order. Also, s15 now appears as 3 Parts of 8 episodes each, with each Part having a corresponding compilation (special) episode, which makes sense and matches the numbering on the official site. Viewing Figures

edit

Are these no longer being published anywhere?

With the series now global, I'm not sure the UK viewing figures are useful for season 13 onwards. Could we re-use that column for the labour (i.e. man-hours) which they started listing alongside the costs around then? 81.174.175.36 (talk) 11:26, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I can try this, but I don't have the table-hacking skills to do this properly - it would just be sticking different numbers into the existing column, rather than creating a proper "Labour" column (which would look better next to "Profit/Loss" rather than stuck on the end). Also, I (only) have those numbers for season 15. Louis Knee (talk) 13:22, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I've stuck in some Labour numbers for s14 and s15; these are as quoted in the programs. (I thought I had the rest of s15 written down too, but apparently no.) Louis Knee (talk) 15:11, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Special/Best-of Episode Table

edit

I'm intending to replace the unused viewing figures column with a "Scenario" column briefly describing the set-up for that episode. In recent seasons e.g. 15 it's not easy to recognise them from the EPG description, let alone tell them apart. I don't want to un-balance the table: I'm thinking of entries as short as "Pinewood derby racers" Louis Knee (talk) 21:05, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've now done this, albeit cosmetically rather than properly - that column is still called "Viewing" in the source. (Note that episode numbering in the Special Episodes table is consistent both internally and with the Discovery UK site - see above) (talk) 12:56, 25 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Given Up?

Is this article not being edited anymore?

There are several episodes which have aired that haven't been added... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.105.59.64 (talk) 19:02, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Series 18

edit

According to Mike Brewer and the official Wheeler Dealers social media pages, what's been called series 18 on here is actually the second part of series 17. TheHeartbreakKid15 (talk) 10:20, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Series 17" is also how it's shown / where it's listed on the (referenced) Discovery website (complete with their usual episode numbering SNAFUs...). Louis Knee (talk) 15:47, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

So is it safe to change if it's officially been said by their own admission? TheHeartbreakKid15 (talk) 20:28, 28 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think so - I've updated the references for you. I guess it will need making a "part 2" segment in the s17 table, and there will be two(!) "episode 1"s in s17 and so on but that seems to be how Discovery have done it... I'm not sure I can face all that table-diddling myself! Louis Knee (talk) 18:32, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
