opening and ending songs

I think someone should add the Yu-gi-oh opening and ending song info!!

About Specials

Since no one here really understands what a special is. A special is when they take two episodes and combine them into a single hour-long episode with a regular title for the first episode and a special title for the special as a whole. For example, the 160-161 special. The episode title for episode 160 is Haga and Ryuzaki - Double Duel Bet by the Souls, while the Special is "Rise up Yugi! Don't Lose, Jonouchi!" However, the Special title isn't an official title; it's basically a marketing gimmick created by the channel airing them and not the show itself. Kinda like KidsWB with their whole advertising stuff of changing names (ex. Official 4Kids title: "A Duel with Dartz"; KidsWB promotion title: "Beast of Atlantis"). My point here is that Special titles shouldn't be considered real episode titles since they're not official. Now, episodes 126, 161, and 168 may have official names. I'm gonna do a bit of research on that. However, until then, the real names of episodes 126, 161, and 168 are unknown by anyone currently working on this page. Besides, using the Special titles for the episodes we don't know the titles of wouldn't make any sense. The main example of that is episode 168. The special title for episodes 167-168 is "Fight! Kaiba! something something Sky Battle". But having this as the title of episode 168 makes no sense, as Kaiba's duel with Amelda ended in the previous episode. So just wait until I can get more information on those three episodes. They may have titles; they may not. --Geg 21:31, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Update'd: I've just recieved the correct information, and yes, those three episodes do have their own titles. It'll take me a little longer to get them translated. If you're wondering, the information comes from the official Japanese R2 DVDs, as opposed to the R0 subtitled Hong Kong bootleg DVDs which have those episodes untitled. These are coming from the official DVDs, meaning that whatever title they have listed for those three episodes is the episodes' official title. Update'd again: I got some translations, but they aren't complete. I've got the title for episode 126 (Poet of Hell - Hellpoemer) but I haven't translated the other two. One out of three ain't bad, I guess. I'll eventually get the other two translated. --Geg 15:45, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I've finally got the title of episode 168 translated (The Shadow of Dartz Creeps Near). Now the only one I don't have fully translated is episode 161. Geg 14:59, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

It's taken me months, but I've finally got all 3 names. And the name of a new one. The two new official titles being added are 160 (The Runaway Train Duel) and 161 (Power-Up Deck! Haga & Ryuzaki). for episode 81 what does 発進 mean, i google translated it and it mean's Take's off and you’re saying that it means 'Takes to the Skies!' which I also translated and instead of '発進' it would be '空を取る' so which is right??

More Japanese discussions

見参 means "meeting" or "seeing". There's no real direct translation of that to English, so it's kind of left open to interpretation. It's definitely not "Watch out!" though. As for だドン, that's a little harder to explain. Certain characters in GX, namely Chronos, Napoleon, and Kenzan have "phrases" that they insert at the end of a lot of their sentences. Chronos has "na no ne", Napoleon has "de aru", and Kenzan has "dadon" and "zaurasu", which can be translated as "don" and "saurus" after dinosaurs. While this may sound fine in Japanese (or not, I dunno), in English it would sound idiotic to add -don and -saurus at the end of everything you say. It's in the title to help give it the characteristic that it's being said by Kenzan. However, there's absolutely no way to translate that or carry across that feeling to English. 15. デュエルテニス (Dyuerutenisu) = Duel Tennis, not Tennis Duel

20. 恋する乙女は強いのよデッキ (Koisuru Otome ha Tsuyoi no yo Dekki)

恋する = to fall in love with; to love 乙女 = girl, maiden 強い = strong, powerful

The emphasis is on the fact that the Loving Maiden is strong, not that the deck is strong and has a beloved maiden in it.

34. 湯けむり旅情 (Yu Kemuri Ryojou)

湯 = hot water けむり = smoke, fumes (in other words, fumes from hot water. Steam) 旅情 = one's feelings while travelling (sentiments, travelling sentiments, etc)

36. ムコとり決闘 (Mukotori Kettou)

ムコとり = adopting a son-in-law into one's family 決闘 = duel, battle

41. 闘牛場 (Tougyuujou) literally "bullring"

42. ブラマジガール乱入 (Buramajigaaru Rannyuu)

乱入 = tresspassing, intruding

If it were meant to be translated as "Blamagigirl's Intrusion", it would be written as ブラマジガールの乱入 instead.

43. 明日香にセカンド・ラブ・チャンス!? (Asuka ni Sekando Rabu Chansu)

This one's pretty hard to decipher since the title is pretty asinine in the first place. There's no real good translation of it, but "A Second Love Chance for Asuka!?" definitely sounds better and makes more since that "Asuka in Second Love Chance!?"

47. サイバー・エンジェル－弁天－ (Saibaa Enjeru Benten)

弁天 = Benten, Japanese Goddess of arts and wisdom. It's written as Benten in Alexis's page.

48. and 49. ２つの幻魔 (Tsu no Maboroshima)

幻 = phantom, vision, illusion 魔 = demon, devil

64. アニキへの熱き想いデュエル (Aniki he no Netsu ki Omoi Dyueru)

アニキ = Aniki (big brother), Sho and Kenzan's nickname for Judai へ = to, towards 熱 = hot, fevered 想い = feelings, thoughts, emotions

The emphasis is that duel has the passionate thoughts toward Judai, not they have passionate emotions because they want to duel Judai.

76. 合体 (Gattai) literally to unite, combine...

Wait, alliance is actually an accepted translation for that. Okay, Ultimate Alliance it stays.

84. 開幕 (Kaimaku) literally "raising the curtain". Has been translated as "Opens" in other episode titles as well like in 185.

Basically, Janime's site is not always right when translating episode titles. Whenever I or someone else changes the episode titles, it's usually due to a translation error that Janime or I made when we originally translated it. This is getting out of hand. I'm willing to wait for it all to calm down for a while before going back to re-correct the GX titles again (trying to correct every single title will have to wait until Spring Break). On the side note, I translate from the original Japanese titles (stopped visiting Janime a long time ago when I got annoyed by the mistranslations). I might include the secondary meaning to words, such as with 'bullring', within ( )s. Example: "The Dark Bullring (Dark Arena) Activates! Asuka vs. Titan"

Everything's been pretty much worked out now. But I don't see how adding in things like "Dark Bullring (Dark Arena)" will really help the article. It'll probably just make things more confusing-looking. And yeah, I got annoyed by Janime's mistranslations too. Especially back when they would change something and convince nearly the entire YGO fanbase that that's what it really is (i.e. translating Doma as Doom and Amnael as Emmanuel). Also, does every title need correcting? I went through and retranslated the Toei Yu-Gi-Oh! and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters episodes myself(though I only really know how to read katakana and some hiragana. Most of everything else I do through an online translator (not Babelfish)) to check them. But if you feel there are mistakes, go ahead and fix them, though it's probably a good idea to post them in the talk page as well so they can discussed if they need to be. Please discuss titles here... I went back and changed around a lot of minor things, and there are too many to explain all at once. I'll explain my translations as questions arise.

Most of the changes to the Toei Yu-Gi-Oh! were good. The GX ones kind of confused me. Mostly just the adding "The" in front of everything. And why change "Yugi" to "the Game"? Wouldn't that be referring to Yugi Mutou the character? Also, I removed the suffixes (Misawa-cchi and Elite-kun) mostly because it won't make any sense to people who don't understand Japanese. And "Shadow of the Seventh" to "Shadow of the Seventh One"... Eh, I dunno. Doesn't "Seventh" alone give basically the same meaning? And I think the whole "dadon" thing in episode 73 is just to characterize it as Kenzan's duel. And I'm pretty sure "alliance" is an acceptable translation for "gattai". Unless "Fusion" makes more sense in the context of the episode. Maybe waiting until the episode airs will help with that desicion. The most confusing one was "Alice in Disparland". I don't know where that translation could come from, so please elaborate on that. And for the final one, "The Duel's Flower Path" makes more sense in the context of the episode since it deals with Kibuki. Geg 22:56, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I felt that the first episode's title leaned toward the 'game' meaning instead of 'Yugi' (it's a silly pun @_@). The 'da' from 'da don' is a shortened form of 'desu'. 'Zetsubou no Kuni no Arisu' (絶望の国のアリス) is a pun on the Japanese title of the story 'Alice in Wonderland', which is 'Fushigi no Kuni no Arisu', therefore 'Zetsubou no Kuni no Arisu' becomes 'Alice in Despairland'. 'Hanamichi' means a passageway, usually one that passes by in front of an audience. The characters separately meaning 'flower' and 'path' simply further implies the key character in the episode.

Okay, the Alice thing makes more sense now. And I knew about Hanamichi (the original title we had up was "The Duel's Stage Entrance"), but it's very hard to figure out a good way to translate it. Geg 22:43, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Fixing translations is not vandalizing. It's helping the page. Instead of blindly reverting it, I've gone through and looked over each one individually. If you still have any problems with it, look them up yourself. Besides, most of the titles we had here were more or less translated by myself, and I don't have a problem with Li Jianliang correcting my/Janime's mistakes. Geg 18:41, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

You're really starting to piss me off. I've said this 1000 times already, 闘牛場 = tougyuujou = "bullring". Do not change it. The katakana in these cases mean nothing. When translating these, the kanji trump the katakana, especially since the kanji appear on the actual page, since Wikipedia doesn't allow ruby characters. Geg 18:18, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

OP and ED images

According to Wikipedia's Fair use policy, #8, it states:

"The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose."

The screencaps of the OP and ED sequences are copyrighted so they fall under fair use. The images have to be used at a minimum, so they should only be used if they give enough information, and not just for making the place look pretty. I think these images do not give enough information and that they should be removed, which is why I removed them initially. I have asked for reasons on why some people keep putting them back in and I have not gotten a reply in quite a few days, so I'm afraid I have to assume you're just vandalising the article. - Zero1328 _Talk? 05:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
