Scope
editWhat is the intended scope of this list? Just present-day? Or historical as well? Just English-speaking world (everything here is). Or broader? -- Jmabel | Talk 07:52, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- The list was created by Schuminweb in orrder to srink the anti-war template (See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anti-war#List of anti-war organizations). I think that its scope should be to cover all specifically anti-war groups and groups that engage in a significant amount of specifically anti-war activity (to cover groups like CND which theoriticaly is focused on Neclear disarmament but actually resently has been active as an anti-war group). It should cover both current and historical groups and groups from all countires. At the moment it is heverly tipped towards current English/North American groups hopefully this will change. I have recently created an article on the South-African group Anti-War Coalition for example.--JK the unwise 08:15, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- I just took the list of anti-war organizations from the Wikiproject page and made a few modifications to make it an article, with the purpose being to make our template smaller. I didn't give it much thought beyond that functional purpose. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:21, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
As a casual passer by, I can only say that I was looking for more information on current anti-war organisations, and it was annoying to try to sort through them. I suggest splitting them up chronologically or in terms of wars. [causal passerby]
Removed pages
editI have removed International Campaign to Ban Landmines because it is not an anti-war group and Religious Society of Friends because anti-war activities are not a primary part of its activities. I left in Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee because I don't know much about them, they seem to be borderline.--JK the unwise 15:04, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Anti "war" organisations
editI have removed Students for Sensible Drug Policy. I can see were the poster is going with the idea that this organisation is Anti the "'War' on Drugs" but for the sake of simplicity I think we should keep this page for groups that oppose millitary wars.--JK the unwise 10:19, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Inclusion/Notability
editShould we pare this list down to only those organizations that are sufficiently notable to have Wikipedia articles? This would potentially (A) limit the scope of the article to prevent it from becoming overly long, and (B) possibly encourage the creation of articles about truly notable anti-war organizations, but had not yet gotten coverage on here. SchuminWeb (Talk) 03:47, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Two organizations ....
editThere are two organizations that could be included, but they don't currently have Wiki articles. Rather than add them, I thought I'd reference it on the talk page first. They are: Every Church a Peace Church and Jewish Peace Fellowship. 66.191.19.68 (talk) 21:18, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- If you think that you can get them to clear notability (WP:N), then I strongly encourage you to register for an account and then get busy creating. Both sound really interesting, to be quite honest, and I hope that they have the reliable sources to pass Wikipedia's notability threshold. SchuminWeb (Talk) 02:25, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Israel has launched air strikes against militant targets in the Gaza Strip, after rockets were fired from the territory towards Jerusalem.
The Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry in Gaza said 20 people, including children, had died in the strikes.
In Jerusalem, the rocket fire caused Israel's parliament to be evacuated as sirens sounded.
Tensions between Israel and the Palestinians spiralled in recent days.
Gaza's Hamas rulers had threatened to strike after hundreds of Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli police in Jerusalem on Monday.
What makes Jerusalem so holy? The Israel-Palestinian conflict explained Israel said it had killed at least three Hamas militants. "We have started, and I repeat started, to attack military targets in Gaza," Israeli military spokesman Lt Col Jonathan Conricus told reporters.
Hamas sources told the BBC a commander of the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, Mohammed Abdullah Fayyad, had been killed.
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hamas had "crossed a red line" and that Israel would respond "with great force".

Students for Justice in Palestine
editThis will likely be a divisive topic given current geopolitics but I don't understand the inclusion of Students for Justice in Palestine in this article. They are not an anti-war organization and their mission statement, in part says "We aim to develop a connected, disciplined movement that is equipped with the tools necessary to contribute to the fight for Palestinian liberation."
Frankly I don't object to a separate Palestinian state but I don't think any group that advocates fighting for it (or anything) belongs on a list of "anti-war organizations." Is there anyone that monitors this list that is bold enough to delete it or move it to a more appropriate Wikipedia list page? Mensch (talk) 06:41, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
