Frank Zhang is (as the link identifies him) a purely fictional character from modern fiction and does not belong in the historical section. 2017-12-19 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.191.86.241 (talk) 21:19, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
Robin Hood is almost certainly fictional, and William Tell is (although a folk hero) based on a real person.LessHeard vanU 21:39, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
I included Amazons previously, which has not been removed. Is there a case for including English(Welsh) Medieval Bowman, Swiss Mercenaries (crossbowmen for hire), Samuri and even Native Americans as notable classes of archers? LessHeard vanU 15:55, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
I, added Archer from the Anime/Game Fate Stay Night by Type Moon. He should not be removed so stop doing it. If you follow the link you will find a description of Archer that explains his use of an actual bow, and his ability to use broken phantasms as arrows. (If you don't understand read the linked page about Archer.) He may not be as popular as fictional western archers, but he is still an archer. Trust me, I love the series, I know what I'm talking about. Laithe 05:34, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- I am the person who is removing same. The character Archer, from what I read, is an invention unknown outside the anime/game. "Broken phantasms" are not found in the real world. All the other fictional archers are based around historical/mythical backgrounds and use bows and arrows that were used in the cultures from which they derived. I believe that Archer is only notable as a character from the anime/game, and not from his association with the bow (i.e. he is not known outside of that genre as a bowman), and thus fails the test of notability purely as an archer. - Oh, and so 'Rambo' is known as an archer based on a hystorical/mythical background? That seems a little hypocritical to take a guy who may have happened to use a bow in a movie and saying he is more applicable than a character who used a bow in a game.Laithe 00:48, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm... Good point. I will have to consider removing Rambo, and the other character from Lord of the Rings. I would comment that Rambo is a familiar character outside of the films made under that franchise, although it is only in the first film that he uses a bow to any great extent, and that he uses a bow and arrow that is completely in keeping with the era portrayed (composite based recurve shape with synthetic flighted arrows). As such it is a realistic portrayal in a fictional setting. As commented though, is Rambo primarily an archer? Perhaps not, so I will remove him. LessHeard vanU 11:16, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Manga/Anime characters who have magical bows, supranatural arrows
editFrom the articles I have read it doesn't appear that the bowmanship of most characters is an important asset. The bows and arrows used are devices of certain energies or metaphysical properties, and operate as a functionary of the stories. I am not convinced that the wielders of such weapons are archers in the everyday sense; their notability rests more with the Manga/Anime world, and their relationships with other characters, than their life as a bowman. As such I shall remove them. I am, of course, open to persuasion regarding their merits as archers. LessHeard vanU 12:30, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

editWhy Natalia Valeva is in the Historical Archers Section? There should be a List of Renowed Athletes, where she should stay..User:lfpaulinyi 21:07, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- I see you fixed it. Congratulations. LessHeard vanU (talk) 23:16, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
William Shatner?
editI see someone added William Shatner to the Historical Archers section. Ignoring that that's probably not the right place for him (though I do acknowledge a lack of a better place in this article), I wonder if he would even apply to this case? Yes, he's an avid archer, but that's a hobby and it's something unrelated to why he is prominent. I think he should be removed, or at the very least a category be created for archers famous for non-archery reasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.18.0.226 (talk) 14:25, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
