Melon Popularity Award
editAbout the Melon Popularity Award and not counting them on the awards section? I've read many times from editors, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Awards and prizes and other discussions the criteria of awards to be listed: mostly the award to be from a reliable and establish a company, to have a value, to be recognized be secondary sources and to give physical trophies to the artists. Melon Popularity Award are giving by Melon which is a reliable and establish a company, it have a value as the winning song must do well in both charts and voting, and the winners were reported many times from others Korean well-known sites, and they give physical trophies to the winners and the winners have send thanking letters/speeches. The only thing is that the award is giving weekly, but a song have a limited times to win, up to 5 wins only. The award is similar to Billboard and it's subsidiary award Billboard.com Mid-Year Music Award, the award is fully popularity award and based on fan voting and polls, it's a sub award but yet it was counted to the artists full awards. GD.BB (talk) 14:21, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Melon is not really established and reliable, their chart is not even notable per WP:BADCHARTS, this solely could mean that this weekly popularity "award", which is chosen by the fans in a web-poll, is not notable. Giving a physical trophies is never a criteria for incluson – soompi awards, so-loved awards and other fancruft awards also sends physical trophies to the artists, yet we dont include them. You even said yourself – "the award is fully popularity award and based on fan voting and polls", this means that the award is not really notable, the only notable awards from melon are Melon Music Awards which are held once per year, and not this popularity ranking which gives out trophies every 7 days. Snowflake91 (talk) 14:33, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- And by the way, Billboard.com Mid-Year Music Award are held twice per year, not every week; furthemore, where is this award listed at List of awards and nominations received by Taylor Swift? It is NOT listed. Snowflake91 (talk) 14:37, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
This is the first time hearing someone saying Melon is not an established and reliable!! It's one of the biggest music service in South Korea if not the biggest, and have one of the biggest award show on country. The list WP:BADCHARTS could simply be outdated, it haven't change a lot since 2011, so I'm pretty sure in 7 years a lot of things changes especially in the power of South Korean music market which includes Melon. Putting Soompi awards and so-loved in the same level as Melon? they are simply a fan sites and blogs, were Melon is an official music organization, well-known and respected. And I've seen you before arguing about not listing some awards because they don't give physical trophies, but now your saying it's not a criteria?
When I said "the award is fully popularity award and based on fan voting and polls" is was about the Billboard sub awards, which is not listed on Swift page, but you can find it here on Beyoncé, Bieber and Timberlake pages, and it counted towards the full numbers, and to be held once or twice, it doesn't matter Billboard mid-year still a full poll awards, but still counted on the artists full awards, and the reason is it came from a well-known organization. But somehow here for South Korean awards it has different criteria.GD.BB (talk) 15:04, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Music Bank, Show Music Core, Inkigayo, M Countdown – why dont you include those weekly awards as well then? They give out physical trophies, they are fan voted, so thats enough, they are exactly the same as melon popularity, just that melon doesnt hold a tv show for it Snowflake91 (talk) 16:07, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
You still didn't give a single reasonable reason for not adding this award! And here you said it "they are exactly the same as melon popularity" and those music shows are counted towards artist full numbers, but for Melon popularity award not to be when it's apply to all the criteria to be also listed with full numbers? How could this be possible? Just let's put a table for it and not count them? The award is a subsidiary award for Melon, like Billboard and mid-Billboard, it should be counted towards the full numbers.GD.BB (talk) 16:38, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Its a weekly fan-voted popularity chart and not an actual award (which notable award is given out 52 times per year?), what kind of reasons do you need? Only the awards which passes WP:GNG should be listed, and if you'll create an article Melon Popularity Award, the page would 99% be deleted for failing notability, so why should those awards be listed in the article? Snowflake91 (talk) 17:20, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Yes it's a weekly fan-voted and yes it also 50% based on charts, but it's still an award that's giving by reliable organization, and I've given you an example of similar award which is Billboard Mid-year, that gives tons of useless awards like Best Feud, Most Shocking Moment and Most Disappointing, are these an actual awards? No, but it still an awards and counted towards the full numbers. Melon Popularity Awards gives 52 awards on one year, but it still have rules and criteria, like a single songs could only win up to five, 50% based on charts and how popular the song is and 50% public/fans voting. As for creating an article for Melon Popularity Award, yes it will get deleted just like most the awards on the article and also like the List of Gaon Digital Chart number ones of 2017 has been deleted for a long time for some weird reasons, and as well the Gaon Streaming Chart is still deleted, not many articles could stand alone and have independent article, but that doesn't mean deleting everything about them. Again you still didn't give an actual reason besides it's weekly and gives a lot of awards? I don't see any rule about not counting a weekly award that is based on a well-know chart, to me it sound more like a personal preference not counting it.GD.BB (talk) 20:34, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- The reason is that the award is non-notable, can you give some reliable links where this awards are covered in-depth outside of Melon website? If you google Melon Popularity Award you basically gets only Melon Music Awards, not a sight of Melon Popularity Award. Snowflake91 (talk) 21:10, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
I could literally say the same about Billboard.com Mid-Year Music Awards, only Billboard reports these stuff and there is no in-depth coverage about them, and most awards doesn't have in-depth coverage, but here you go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6. GD.BB (talk) 21:37, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
