Suggested merge
editAn editor has suggested adding a number of non-notable Dubai building articles into this list.
After he removed Prods, from the non-notable building articles.
Leaving them as stand-alones, as he denied the Prods.
Note that these buildings are not close to being tall by Dubai standards. Less than half the size of the tallest Dubai buildings. Compare them to the heights of those on the list of the tall Dubai buildings. And there are Dozens of taller buildings in Dubai.
See below, for example (the full list can be seen on the article page) -
- Saba Tower 1
- Saba Tower 4
- The Oberoi Business Bay
- The Palladium (Dubai)
- The Forum (Dubai)
- The Regal Tower
- The One Tower
- Fortune Araames
- Park Lane Tower (Dubai)
- MarinaScapePark Place (Dubai)
- Shangri-La Hotel (Dubai)
- The Peninsula (Dubai)
- Starhill Tower
- Jumeirah Al Khor
- Dream Tower, Dubai
- Orra Marina
- LIWA Heights
- ARY Digital Tower
- One Business Bay
- O2 Residence
- Mazaya Business Avenue
- The Exchange (Dubai)
- Pier 8
- The Sheffield Tower
- V3 Tower.
Two problems. Big ones.
1. Merge suggestions typically (unless the editor follows up on them) leave the article as a standalone. For years. Or perhaps forever. Nobody follows up. Editors fail to weigh in. No action is taken. Non-notable articles stays. Instead of being Prodded.
2. The articles he suggests merging are about Non-Notable buildings. Originally listed because of their height. And they are not even among the tallest three or four dozen buildings. In Dubai! Where a number of buildings are more than 100 stories high.
We should not make a list of articles of non-notable buildings. Where's the sense in that??
These stand-alone articles should be deleted. Not left to stand around for years, as merge suggestion do typically. Nothing done.
And they shouldn't even be merged here anyway. They are non-notable buildings. We should not have a list of non-notable buildings. 2604:2000:E016:A700:35F4:5715:191A:EB3E (talk) 01:08, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

- @Northamerica1000: the above comment seems to be directed at you. postdlf (talk) 01:14, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
- The prods occurred in a rapid, one-after-another fashion, and some of these topics are actually notable. For example, see Conrad Dubai, which was initially prodded in this drive-by fashion. I added more sources to and then removed the merge template from the article. Source searching and adding sources to articles takes a lot more time compared to copying and pasting a prod repeatedly in a rapid fashion. The prods that occurred do not appear to have been backed with any type of WP:BEFORE source searches. Other topics may or may not not be notable, but also may have merge potential, and again, it doesn't come across that any source searching regarding potential notability occurred. - I review the articles first, write down the prod-worthy, and then nominate them. What is wrong with that? Are you really deleting prods just based on the "one-after-another fashion" of the tags? That's not good. Especially when you sweep in articles that don't meet the prod criteria. I made sure I had a valid reason for deletion. Considered alternatives. And then, when I had my list, Proded them. You, in contrast, in rapid thoughtless fashion de-prodded All of them. Apparently without any good-faith reason to believe that they were not prod-worthy. You even left in clearly advert language. That's not good. I'm allowed to do my research, make my list, and then prod them "one-after-another."
Furthermore, these one could reasonably be seen as proper for speedy deletion. Because they have no "Credible claim of significance." It is not a credible claim of significance that a building exists. Or that it is, say, 25 stories tall, one quarter of the number of stories of the tallest building in the city. Seriously -- you de-prodded a bunch of articles on the basis that they said that, and you personally didn't like the fact that I make my list, and then prod, because you "guess" that there is not enough information showing that I properly considered the fact that an article of a 25 story building that exists is credible enough (does wp:before even come into play there, anyway?)? That's not right.
You, apparently, deprodded many (if not all) without doing any appropriate reason.
And redirected non-notables to a list of ... non-notable buildings? That's not what wikipedia is about. We don't build lists of non-notable things. Why in the world would you do that?
BTW, the list should be changed to indicated in the lead that it is about non-notable buildings. Otherwise, it strikes me as not appropriate. And subject to abuse, like this. 2604:2000:E016:A700:CCA9:D97E:CAD3:D797 (talk) 17:41, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Non-buildings in "list of buildings"
editThis list as mentioned should be limited to notable x. Not "non-notable-included x."
But there is another problem. It says it is a list of buildings. But some of the articles listed are not about buildings.
Those non-buildings articles should be deleted from this list. They may for example include some restaurants, etc. Those if they are notable can be on lists, but not a list that is of something they are not. --2604:2000:E016:A700:CCA9:D97E:CAD3:D797 (talk) 18:05, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
- Would this include observation towers, like the Dubai Creek Tower or the Dubai Frame? AAEexecutive (talk) 21:30, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

Potential edits
editFirst off, a lot of the building names are 'wrong.' Most skyscrapers have multiple titles given to it by the community, but only one (or at least one current) 'official' name. But that's not my main point. There are a great deal of buildings not shown on this list. Now, it's absolutely crazy going all over the Internet to find cool buildings, especially since everybody has their own different definition of 'worth noting.' Unbuilt buildings are especially hard to find. Propsearch.ae has a crazy amount of buildings, especially ones with space for sale, but I couldn't find them all in one place. If anyone knows how to write a computer program to grab every building on the Internet confirmed to be in Dubai and condense it all into one document with no repeats, please do!
