Could someone check which of the Sandvikens really is the correct place? Thanks, Justsail (talk) 13:10, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Making list usable

edit

I am working on making the list usable - adding wikilinks etc. I had started working on this page but found that it would be better to do all work on my sandbox page. Check there if you want to see the progress. Aurornisxui (talk) 20:22, 29 December 2018 (UTC) Reply

In reference to the tag on the list, and after poking around on Wikipedia.sv, I am aiming to make this a list of Church of Sweden church buildings. No congregations or parishes, no other denominations (this seems, judging by what's on the list and at the sv information, to be the intention). I will look closely at any church that is no longer used (I've run into one, so far) and, only if there is something notable about the church will I keep it. If a church has a red link on Wikipedia.sv,if the church is notable (historic, protected, etc), I'll keep it. Open to other suggestions. Again, please see my sandbox page for what I'm doing. Aurornisxui (talk) 14:13, 31 December 2018 (UTC) ETA After reading about lists, I plan to break the list up. Request for Comment length and depth of List of churches in Sweden

edit

I would like ideas about the length and depth of this article.

This list was nominated for deletion, the outcone was "keep". I was one of the keep votes. Most everyone who wanted to keep the list commented that it wasn't in any way useful (not as an AfD argument), especially since there were virtually no locations. I have been editing the list and here is what I'm doing (Karlahamn Municipality (the first) is what I have decided on). But the list is massive. I would like some ideas about criteria I might use with the list to winnow out some of the entries. I have searched for other lists of churches, and, as far as I can find, there is no all-encomapssing list of all churches for an entire country. I have already limited the list somewhat by only using Church of Sweden churches. I don't know if I should include cathedrals, chapels, and ruins. I was thinking of making the list only churches recognized by the Swedish National Heritage Board, but that isn't so helpful as they look like they list nearly every church and they list churches from before 1940. Thanks for the help. Aurornisxui (talk) 17:31, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Have you thought about breaking the list up by administrative subdivisions? Church of Sweden#Dioceses and bishops may be a convenient was to break this down into smaller articles, one for each of the diocese. --Jayron32 17:36, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I have. Right now I'm using counties because some dioceses cross county lines. I want to split it into pages, though I had thought of separate articles. Aurornisxui (talk) 18:13, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I would strongly agree on using some form of geographic split. I don't think anyone would attempt such a list for England, as the number of churches would be so large as to make it unusable, and I think the same applies for other countries. For England/UK we use counties, or even divisions within counties, and you'll find some truly excellent examples such as Grade II* listed buildings in Allerdale or Grade I listed buildings in Bath and North East Somerset. These are actually done by the Heritage designations we use in the UK - Grade I, most important, Grade II* next most important - but the principle is the same. This example gives the Category breakdown for Wales Grade II* churches ((Category:Grade II* listed churches in Wales)) - can't do the link or it will categorise this page. I don't know Sweden such that I could suggest a suitable division, but there must be something similar to the UK's counties. All the best, it's a huge piece of work. KJP1 (talk) 18:20, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I am dividing by 1) county and 2) municipality 3) city/town. I agree about the unusability of such a massive list, which is why I wanted to break it up. I have seen the UK church lists when I was searching for ideas. I am currently thinking of limiting churches listed to pre 1900 churches listed and described by the Swedish National Historic Board.Aurornisxui (talk) 18:45, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Agree, the list should certainly be split into regional sub-lists. Lycka till! Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:33, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I quite agree!! Aurornisxui (talk) 18:45, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I looked at the list, and... yes it needs to be redone. I think a list for every Landskap would be best. With coordinates and picture, like this about cultural heritage churches. I know it is written in Swedish, but it is a good way. Unfortunatelly the code does not work here. My proposal is this:
1. Make the subjekt more narrow, because "churches" is everything from middle age to modern amall churches in shopping malls. That is har to get an overview of. Do only cultural herritage, lists.
2. Do the list according to Landscapes, like on svwp.
If that seems ok for you I can ask on svwp if it ia possible to get the swediah liats robot translated to english, to look like the example (the code). The language I can fix afterwords. Best regards Adville (talk) 19:14, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

End of moved comment. Adville (talk) 19:20, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is excellent, thank you. In all my searching of svwp, I never found that list! I do have the list sorted into Landscapes. I have a couple of examples of what I was working on and can modify it to be more like the list there. Thank you so much for that link. And the idea of just using cultural heritage churches. Aurornisxui (talk) 20:02, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Do you want me to ask onsvwp if it is possible to get it in enwp code for ever landskap? (My former answer had some fat finger errors...) If so I can ask them to make it on sub pages here so it will be easier to work with. One page for each landskap, and then you can make it a long list if you want (and of it works). BR Adville (talk) 20:47, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
No, thank you, but thank you very much for the offer. I have most things already set up for my table. Aurornisxui (talk) 22:23, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thats good. Feel free to ask me for help if you need. Shall I give you all the pages with heritage churches like my above example? Adville (talk) 22:34, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, please, that would be a big help! Aurornisxui (talk) 23:45, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree as well.BabbaQ (talk) 23:58, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Im working now, but will do it after. Br Adville (talk) 11:39, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I was lucky. Found This link, so I do not have to give you 21 different links. only look at the links named "Lista över kyrkliga kulturminnen i ***" (star is the landskap/region). Adville (talk) 19:23, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Adville thank you for that link, it makes it so much easier. I've decided to do a separate list for each county, if you want to see what it looks like, it's here. Asarum's Church is the only one that's the way I want it, just finally figured it out. Aurornisxui (talk) 16:13, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Aurornisxui: Looks great. And as a coincident I have been several times i Asarums church as a teacher during end of school celebration. I was a teacher in Asarum for 9 years. Adville (talk) 17:06, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree on using the traditional provinces (landskap). As administrative divisions they are obsolete, but this is actually an advantage, as they are not changing, unlike both the counties (län) and the current church parishes. The National heritage board (Riksantikvarieämbetet) uses landskap and the traditional parishes or socknar (sing. socken) as their main categories for that very reason. --Hegvald (talk) 19:42, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
