American-Centered Article

edit

Because of the randomness of the selection of who is included on this list - you should allow for anyone to add submissions at anytime. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.249.8.228 (talk) 00:19, 9 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

What kind of list is this? From what I saw, the only trombonists on here are American. Seeing as America is not the only place in the world where classical music is performed, it might be a good idea to include musicians of other nationalities as well. For example, the fact that Christian Lindbergh is not on this list is rather ludicrous. Hyphessobrycon 5:35, 22 November 2007

Agreed. Nobody has come up with a viable way of deciding who should be on this list or not. --Folantin (talk) 07:58, 23 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
So add the European and other classical world trombonists. Maybe the criteria should only be that they have played in a major symphonic group. Start a criteria at the top of the page. Talk to GM 02:50, 24 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Suggest to create a category trombonists. Then every trombonist of note with his/her own article gets included. (B.t.w. it is one criterion, two criteria...) brian stormer (talk) 23:34, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Christian LINDBERG is not an orchestral trombonist. (referring to the above statement). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.234.34.194 (talk) 01:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

My intent in updating this article was to contine adding to it to inlude more natinalities and even include deceased important trombonists, chamber musicians, soloists, and teachers in different subheadings, but I have only so much time. I was going to post the information on this article to some prominent trombone related websites assuming that other knowledgeable people in those other areas would fill in some holes. I'll add the other sections that I was working on. Please feel free to add more names to this evolving list. BTW, not all the names are from American orchestras and Christian Lindberg is NOT an orchestral trombonist. comment added by User:RFlatt 18 December 1:41am —Preceding comment was added at 06:42, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds great but ambitious. By the way is RFlatt that elusive note that can only be played on a really loud trombone? :()brian stormer (talk) 19:24, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hehehe...yeah. It's not really that ambitious, though, since I don't intend on finishing the whole thing myself. I was going to give some parameters on how to organgize a list like this (dividing into several lists with soloists, orch, chamber, etc) and then push it off on the rest of the trombone community. The information I provided is generally american oriented since that's where I live and what I could find. btw, I'll keep searching for that elusive R-flatt. Is this list needed?

edit

Category http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Classical_trombonists already exists. Could the information in this list be incorporated into that category? 132.244.246.25 (talk) 11:48, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Trombone playing in the 20th Century

edit

I'm surprised, given that Stuart Dempster and Vinko Globokar make this list, that James Fulkerson is not on it. These three were the pioneers of 20th Century trombone playing, performance and composition, including works not only for the trombone. James deserves the widest recognition.
