Removal of lute composers

As discussed on Talk:List of composers for the classical guitar (nationality) all composers who never wrote a note for the guitar – as their 'guitar works' are later arrangements/transcriptions by other musicians – have now been removed. There is a separate List of composers for lute where every lute composer will still be found. – Aklein62 (talk) 13:47, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Removal of composers, whose 'guitar works' are transcriptions only

The purpose of a 'list of composers for the classical guitar' cannot be to list composers, who never wrote a note for the guitar. We discussed this on the parallel page Talk:List of composers for the classical guitar (nationality). After the removal of lute composers (see above), the next step is to remove those composers whose 'guitar works' are transcriptions only. I've already begun, tentatively, but all WP editors interested in this topic are welcome to join.

When in doubt, my approach is to look up the 27-volume German encyclopedia Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG), which has extensive work-lists and which rests comfortably near my desk. If doubts still remain, I leave the composer on the list. – Aklein62 (talk) 14:00, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Renaming of article

Per the merger discussion at Talk:List_of_composers_for_the_classical_guitar#Re-proposals_of_mergers, chronological detail on the composers listed here has been moved into the sortable table that now exists at the other article. This move leaves the instant article with the names of only those persons who composed for lute. Hence, the re-naming of the article from "for the classical guitar" to "for lute".
