editPlease give us your suggestions, questions, and comments about the List of counties in Colorado article below.
The Wikipedia:List guideline recommends that stand-alone list articles be used to display simple lists of information and navigation links to detailed articles. The guideline recommends against using tables in list articles. Lists should be kept simple and annotation should generally be limited to Wikipedia:Footnotes.
In 2002, 50 list articles of U.S. counties by state were created to expedite the creation of articles about every county (or county equivalent) in the United States. These 50 county list articles originally contained nothing more than a simple list of every county in each state (see the original list of counties in Colorado). Subsequently, some of these county list articles have been embellished beyond usefulness, while others have remained simple functional lists.
I recommend that the list of counties in Colorado be restored to a simple list of Colorado counties (as recommended by the Wikipedia:List guideline), and any further elaboration be placed in the general article Colorado counties. Your thoughts? --15:35, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Buaidh
- Sorry, that horse left the barn a long time ago. For a "simple list of Colorado counties" see Category:Colorado counties. Nobody will ever be able to embellish that into mutiple complicated sortable tables of data. – Wbm1058 (talk) 19:22, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe Colorado counties was once a "general article", but it's not that now. It's another "sortable table list". Wbm1058 (talk) 19:26, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editOther states are not divided like that, I propose to remerge them back together. The other county lists are not standalone lists, they incorporate other information, so do many other lists, see List of World Organization of the Scout Movement members. Chris 20:59, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think it would be a very good idea to merge Colorado counties into List of counties in Colorado, but Wikipedia has really gotten a long way away from the concept of a simple list. I seriously wonder if the title "List of" has much relevance anymore. I prefer to use the term "Table of" if the primary feature is a structured table of information, but many list articles now contain lists, tables, naratives, maps, images, what-have-you. --Buaidh 21:50, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Definitely merge Colorado counties into this page and use a high-detail table, like that used in List of counties in Kentucky. That page is a featured list, so I highly doubt that such a page would seriously violate guidelines. Nyttend 21:39, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Support. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information and articles should not be excessive listings of statistics. Certain portions of the other article should be merged into this list, like the list of historic counties, but most of the statistics can probably dispensed with (and listed on the individual articles, where relevant). See List of counties in New York (another featured list) for what I think is a good model to follow. —Gordon P. Hemsley→✉ 15:27, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
- Support The two are largely overlapping, and the above mentioned lists are good examples. Kennethaw88 (talk) 02:47, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- OK, Done per consensus. – Wbm1058 (talk) 20:44, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
This is ugly. Should be cleaned up Coemgenv (talk) 15:50, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

Areas fix
editThe areas listed for each county appear to be grossly wrong--they don't even come close to matching the values given in the listed source. I could use some help fixing them (just refer to the source). Thanks. Tylerboschert2007 (talk) 08:41, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
That was quicker than I thought. The fix is done. Tylerboschert2007 (talk) 08:41, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Looks the like the old valuesfor the "Area" parameter were the sq km values, whereas the template should use the sq mile value. Good work! Tompw (talk) (review) 13:10, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Functions of County Governments
editWe are told that counties are important units of government in Colorado, since there are no townships or comparable local units of government, but we aren't told what the counties do, particularly for the 25% or so of the population that does not live in an organized municipality. Does the county provide a school system? law enforcement? fire or emergency medical service? garbage collection? housing inspection? The article on Colorado gently mentions the existence of more than 4000 special-purpose taxing districts. J S Ayer (talk) J S Ayer (talk) 18:21, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
