editAs Our Lady of Vilnius church in New York City has not been demolished and there is an active resistance with some potential for success, should the church be included in this listing? Are there other entries that refer to buildings that have not been demolished? I don't understand the incusion of the church in this article. Kachuka (talk) 17:59, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
Context
editI know the title is sort of self-explanatory, but could we have a little introduction added to this article please? (I don't know enough about the subject to do it myself!). Is this a spin-off of another article? Rob (talk) 16:15, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
The title is misleading. It should be revised to: "List of demolished churches in the New York City Borough of Manhattan".
St John the Evangelist Church, 55th and First Avenue, 1886-1969
editShould be included on this list. The original gothic structure was torn down to make way for the currently-standing modern archdiocese headquarters building on the same site, 1011 1st Avenue. Refs for a motivated editor: http://nyti.ms/1wUtH3D (New York Times 4/15/1973, may require paywall access; regarding dedication of the new building, with mention of the demolition date) and http://books.google.com/books?id=KL4YAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA339#v=onepage&q&f=false (pp339-340, giving details of the original construction.) --Threephi (talk) 02:45, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
N.B. the church is still located on the same site, as part of the modern building. --Threephi (talk) 02:59, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
