Is there a reference for the "probably an allosaur like Megalosaurus" statement? Because Megalosaurus isn't an allosauroid, so it's hard to interpret it. Suffice to say it's probably a tetanuran? 98.231.21.195 (talk) 17:57, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

New Zealand Ichthyosaur

edit

Should more info be given about the ichthyosaur in the notes, i mean we should have at least a bit of info on what is likely the largest animal to have existed (if using Shastasaurus proportions.) Kentrostego32 (talk) 21:15, 23 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Um, what? To date, no paleontologist has stated any Ancient Marine Reptile is bigger than the Blue Whale (or Fin Whale, for that matter.)50.111.41.216 (talk) 01:04, 16 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hector's ichthyosaur fossils being lost.

edit

Should the section on them being lost be removed? People know where they are now, per the linked video in its section, and the myth that they went missing in the Matoaka disappearance is used in the cited source for it being lost. The Matoaka went missing in 1869, with the first specimen of the ichthyosaur being discovered in 1871 and the infamous giant one in 1877. So it's impossible for the fossils to have been lost with the Matoaka. Ashe VSM (talk) 15:48, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Expert review of the tables needed

edit

I found this article by WP:RANPP and decided to fix up the table with some references. I added citations for most of what I could find, but based on the material I skimmed it looks like there would be many more candidates to fill the table. I'm not sure what the significance of these entries is compared to all other options -- I would flag this for expert review. For reference, in addition to the citations I've added to the main article, I think doi:10.1080/14772011003594870 (PDF) is a useful source because it lists and reclassifies a variety of fossils.
