US states
editI do not find it encyclopedic to include details identifying which US states each individual Japanese consulate is accredited to. This is an administrative detail that could be subject to change, and there are differences in what are consular responsibilities and what are representational details (the Canadian consulate in Phoenix covers matters in Arizona, except for consular cases which are dealt by the consulate in Los Angeles). I really wonder exactly how is our understanding of the subject matter enhanced by its inclusion.
But does anybody think it is worth including this information for every federalised country in every article? Kransky (talk) 10:18, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- What about on an international level? (I.E. Switzerland assigns Mongolia to the Embassy in Beijing) - Also, has there been a case where a given country frequently altered a diplomatic system of a particular country? (I.E. commonly reassigned states, prefectures, etc) - IMO consulate generals are often added and dropped, and Wikipedia is an ongoing project, so as long as a system does not change too frequently (maybe around once every two or three years?) it should be easy for Wikipedia to maintain the pages. - What about on an international level? you are talking about non-residential accreditation. The articles are supposed to be about the diplomatic missions themselves, not the bilateral relationships, which are handled in other articles.
- has there been a case where given country frequently altered a diplomatic system of a particular country? I know that the Australian Ambassador to the Holy See was previously handled by Ambassadors alternatively in Dublin, The Hague, Ankara and Bonn before resting with a resident Ambassador.
- My main point is these details are not notable (please see WP:INDISCRIMINATE). How does knowing which consulate handles consular matters for the state of Nebraska help us understand more broadly about Japan's diplomatic network? Kransky (talk) 10:40, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

"Republic of China" (Taiwan)
editDidn't Japan establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in 1972? Didn't Japan end diplomatic relations with the Republic of China at the same time?
Of course I know "Yes" is the answer to both of the above questions. So why does the article say Japan has a diplomatic mission (which requires diplomatic relations) with the Republic of China?
I think the answer is probably not based in fact but rather in politicial propaganda. I will remove it. Before reverting my edit, please provide a source for when Japan reestablished diplomatic relations with the Republic of China.
For my part, there are many many sources showing that Japan long ago ended its diplomatic relations with the Republic of China and established its diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. This following is a link to the "Five Principles of Chinese Foreign Policies By Pobzeb Vang" publication which includes the full text of the "Joint Statement of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Japan" of 1972. [1].
Japan has an unofficial presence in the Republic of China through the "Interchange Association (Japan), Taipei Office" - As its very title suggests, that is certainly no embassy. Regards. Redking7 (talk) 11:44, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

editI undid revision 329674544 by Dushby Sorry, I didn't know I was supposed to report to brand new users. I have replaced your removal of text not elsewhere in the article, and will continue to do so. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:59, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Are you so starved for status in your life that just because you have accumulated many edits on this encyclopedia, you think of yourself as a superior user who can rule over new users without discussion?
If that's the case then I don't have time to help you with your self esteem. However, I do want to see the paragraph improved.
The sentence I removed is of low quality. It is unsourced, dubious, and just thrown into a paragraph that generally summarizes the landmarks of Japanese diplomacy.
I can't see how anyone else wouldn't think otherwise. I suspect you are just being stubborn because you have nothing better to do. Dushby (talk) 16:32, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
- Dushby, your comments above are unhelpful - you may notice it is very hard to encourage people to see your arguments when you insult them. I suggest you familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's dispute resolution procedures. Your position may be correct, but your attitude does not make people want to come to your defence.
