List or not
editWikipedia seems to have a strange habit of locating its articles at "list of..." wherever possible. This is a kind of list, but it's not just a list, and discusses the concept a bit. Can't we move it to "enacting formula" or "enacting clause"?
- That got redirected here D:... I suspect it'll end up getting split into two seperate articels. 68.39.174.238 00:25, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Oireachtas
editThe Oireachtas, in its present form, has existed since the Constitution of Ireland of 1937, theirfore I have removed "Oireachtas of the Republic of Ireland" as the Republic of Ireland is a name used only since 1949 and theirfore it leaves the matter of over 10 years unaccounted for. In any case the Oireachtas is simply known as Oireachtas and never "Oireachtas of the Republic of Ireland". Second reason no need to mix languages and in the process "generate" names which never existed before. Djegan 22:38, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
EU Treaties
editEuropean Union treaties have a common enacting formula. Can this be included? See Treaty of Lisbon. 81.155.125.119 (talk) 12:29, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Enacting formulae not dependent on formal components of legislature
editI removed this sentence: Whether or not the head of state is mentioned in a formula depends on if they are formally considered a component of the legislature. Because in many cases, the formal components of a legislature may include the head of state but have an enacting formulae that does not mention the HOS. In Australia, HM The Queen is constitutionally a part of Parliament(Commonwealth of Australia Act 1901, S.1) but the Federal enacting formula does not mention her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.233.191.82 (talk) 01:42, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Formulae or Formulas
editWhy does this article use "formulae" for its title when "formulas" is by far the more common in English? -Rrius (talk) 08:07, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Requested move
editFor the reason stated in the previous thread, I have requested that this page be moved. -Rrius (talk) 01:43, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose move to Enacting formulas there is no requirement to use the most common form of a plural in a title. While this may not strictly be covered by the guideline (unless formulae is more common in areas speaking British-derived forms of English, in which case it may be), WP:ENGVAR affirms the use of different valid forms of English words on Wikipedia. --Rogerb67 (talk) 02:20, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- ENGVAR is about different spellings in different English-speaking nations. There is no suggestion that that is the case. As such, under Wikipedia guidelines, the most common spelling should be used. -Rrius (talk) 03:08, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Comment why not use List of enacting clauses? 76.66.201.179 (talk) 04:36, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Good call. Let's just do that. -Rrius (talk) 04:45, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- While this is a highly irregular way to deal with a move request, particularly without a proper justification, cursory Google searches suggest the proposal has merit so I will not oppose it (I have amended my opinion above to clarify what it is I opposed). --Rogerb67 (talk) 11:05, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
