Need to sort the list of private organisations by country or as international. User talk:Alan Liefting

I found a lot of Canadian organizations just by going to the website of one organization I knew and manually 'spidering' through their links pages. I'm sure the same can be done for other countries. In response to Alan's comment, I have used subcategories for countries in the list of private orgs, but didn't for governmental because there aren't too many at this point. I was surprised that there is so little on environmental organizations on Wikipedia; I would have thought the environmental-type to be WP's prime audience! RealGrouchy 15:47, 30 May 2004 (UTC)

I'm surprised too. I intend to work on this, especially the UK organizations. I've started doing bits on the Friends of the Earth pages, since that's the one I am most closely involved in. Help or further discussion appreciated. --FrankP 19:41, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

the list of environmental organizations doesnt belong under Environmental science! it should appear under environmentalism or environmental movement, etc. Environmental science is strictly about the science of analyzing environmental effects. let others weigh in on this. regards Anlace 02:18, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

A complete list of environmental organizations would surely exceed 10,000. There are several thousand land trusts in the US alone. It would be more useful to establish listing criteria, e.g. a budget above $5 million for at least 3 years. For that matter, listing organizations in size order would be more useful than alphabetically. C. Cerf (talk) 18:27, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Many NGO organizations that have an international scope or presence and are listed under individual countries and vice-versa. Perhaps all should be moved to the country where they are chartered to avoid the problem of the international listing here. List or category?

This page has been superseded by the category system. What shall we do with this page? It is difficult to maintain and may become quite large. Alan Liefting 21:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I like both : list and category are complementary . for example for the groups by countries, it's easier to consult a list. although somebody take times to categorize, but sometimes it's irrelevant (one group in a country ...) --Ayanoa 22:35, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Brazil

Howdy, Added some organizations under Brazil. They don´t link anywhere. Maybe I´ll fix that. Maybe you will. haha. I deleted IPAM from the list of Brazilian organizations, since it links to some unrelated computer jargon and I´ve never heard of it. ~~Envirocorrector. 27 June 2007‎

Env. Science

I half agree that this shouldn't be within environmental science, which really is about the science. That said, many organizations are important players in environmental science. Something like 1/2 of The Nature Conservancy's staff are scientists. 27 June 2007‎

Law Enforcement infiltration

Did you know that some, if not all of the Environmental groups listed here are considered terrorists by the US and the UK, other nations ? See Operation Backfire for more on US law enforcement operations against certain environmental groups, orgs and against environmentalism in general. Here is a example: You and your buds are planning to burn down a KFC facility, because they said that your agenda was "full of shit". Suddenly, metallic objects crash through the windows and detonate (flashbangs), then milli-seconds after detonation, what look like soldiers (SWAT) burst inside, place MP5s, other guns in your faces, YELL at you, using profanity, to LIE DOWN on the floor, then they use plastic cuffs to handcuff you. You cannot resist, since the flashbangs has rendered you unable to do anything at all. Then they pick you and your buds up, all other evidence up, and haul you and it to the local jail and police station. Later, you and your buds are sentenced for criminal solicitation, using explosives and destructive devices, conspiracy, violating the USA Patriot Acts, attempted arson, arson, domestic terrorism (The one they got the OK. City Bombers on), basically "you name it". Then you're the "property" of the US govt.(prison garb often has "Property of the....(the county, state US)" on it.) for the next several years. Need for unique headings

Someone who understands the layout of this list should revise some of the headings and subheadings so that they are all unique within the page.

Deleted Links

I included a link on the "Other" group and it was deleted. The link is http://www.tiptheplanet.com/ which is an organization that aims to help the environment. I'm new here so could anyone tell me why it was deleted and any further recommendations/suggestions? Jrecinto (talk) 16:03, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

not much point to US list

there are so many organizations it is hard to make head or tail of them. you should have sub-headings specifying what exactly these groups are for. there are many environmental causes and US regions. 152.19.32.223 (talk) 22:38, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Article focus?

Should this article focus solely on environmental non-governmental organizations? That clearly is the main emphasis of the content. The first two sections, on intergovernmental organizations and governmental agencies, respectively, are covered better in their own main articles. I'm uncertain about the value/ strengths/ focus of this article. Arguably, its main strength is the listing of environmental NGOs. But, as argued above, would this best be done via Categories by country? Should this article be renamed/ refocused/ further developed as a List of environmental non-governmental organizations, by country? Should it be deleted? Thanks for your input. I favor a set of lists by country, parallel to the new article "List of environmental and conservation organizations in the United States". Each of those list articles can be optimally useful in the form of a sortable wikitable. (Addendum: Also, I favor the removal of the words "and conservation", because the category Category:Environmental organizations already includes the subcategory Category:Conservation organisations.)

• Keep as is - I think the strength of this article is precisely in the comparison of the three categories. In practice, environmental considerations challenge conventional national governance structures, and so from a research and encyclopaedic perspective it is very salient to see different organizational levels collected in one place.
