Suggest name change

Ruth Underwood, at least, isn't just a drummer; she's a full-fledged percussionist. The title of this article should be "List of female percussionists". 'Percussionist' is a category which includes all drummers, but is much broader, and would admit also people like Underwood; Evelyn Glennie; Gloria Parker; Keiko Abe; and a host of others -- all of whom played drums, but were much more than drummers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.43.249 (talk) 23:46, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

We have a non gender-specific List of percussionists and a Category:Percussionists.
I am not sure why we have a List of drummers and a List of female drummers - the combination of such lists comes up regularly, as currently at Talk:List of classical guitarists where the proposal is to incorporate List of women classical guitarists - Arjayay (talk) 06:57, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Nonsense

I'm not sure why its a requirement to have a wikipedia article about the person to be included on this list. That is just stupid. To me that says: sorry, you dont have your own wikipedia article so youre not a real drummer. Stephanie Eulinberg has been Kid Rock's drummer for 18 !$&@ing years, she is listed on the page for his band as his drummer. This is the inclusion parameter for all such lists:- List of guitarists, List of bass guitarists, List of lead guitarists etc. Having an article shows that the person is notable in their own right, not just as part of a band. - Arjayay (talk) 05:58, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

The problem is that, without inclusion criteria, people add themselves because they might have played drums for a few weeks as a teenager and then can say "Look, I'm even on Wikipedia!" So we end up with lists that contain hundreds of names that mean nothing. And, to the reader, a list of names is useless unless it leads to more information. Hence the requirement to have an article. If you want a particular drummer to appear on this list, write an article first, and then include the link to the article here. MichiHenning (talk) 06:10, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

That is a straw man argument that can easily be got round by requiring a credible citation, something that is normal for Wikipedia. There are many very good female drummers who do not have a Wikipedia entry. The list is one of female drummers.--Samesawed (talk) 10:51, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, I just noticed Arjayay's comment "Having an article shows that the person is notable in their own right, not just as part of a band." My response to that is so what if they are only mentioned as part of a band. Are you suggesting that this should only be a list of drummers who are notable to the English language Wikipedia by having a separate English Language page on Wikipedia? Unless you are suggesting that it become a sort of "Drummerworld" list of an arbitrarily defined drummers who are "interesting" enough to English speakers to give them their own Wiki page. That sort of list can be auto-generated by correct tagging of Wikipedia articles.--Samesawed (talk) 12:49, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
