revert

I reverted some major deletions to this list made yesterday by 87.203.129.251. It seems that they are wanting to limit the scope of this list to "acclaimed female directors," something which seems to already exist here: [1]. Perhaps these lists could be better differentiated by their titles? Hairflag 18:09, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Separated out a List of female film directors

I created a separate List of female film directors, in my opinion, film and television directors should be in separate lists (yes, I realize there is some overlap between those lists with a few directors, but not many). Television and film are just too different. And this list doesn't indicate if a director is in television, film or both. OttawaAC (talk) 02:21, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

But there is just no point of having "film directors" & "film and television directors", as it is now. Possibly, there could be three lists: those who direct films only, those whose direct TV, and those who direct both. Seems that your list covers the first one and the old list all of them. Though, it isn't so easy to separate them: Kathryn Bigelow is considered to be a film director, but she has also directed some episodes of TV series. 82.141.75.217 (talk) 04:22, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Right now this is redundant to List of female film directors. If there are no objections, I'll remove all directors that have only directed films from this list and move it to List of female television directors.--Cattus talk 23:17, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

article's title is too vague

Shouldn't this article be called List of female motion picture and television directors? There are other kinds of "directors" y'know. wikipediatrix 15:24, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

But an artistic director at a museum is never just called a director in this way. 160.94.27.149 21:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

This list seems to include a lot of directors of pornographic films. Shouldn't those directors be on a separate list? They're mainly porn actresses ho have directed a few porn videos. This is not being "film director" in the usual sense. Carnival Honey (talk) 05:04, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Merge proposal for List of female film directors previously separated out

There is a List of film and television directors, but no separate List of film directors (the second redirects back to the first). There is far too much crossover now between film and television to justify keeping two different lists, and this is as true for the female lists as well as the overall. One is redundant. Kathryn Bigelow is just one example of many who crossover. Many, not just a few as suggested above. Then there is the question of where to list those who have only directed shorts. With television becoming more cinematic now, there is no point to making this distinction, and then we have two lists to watch over and revert people adding non-noteworthy entries. There should be just one list and it should be titled List of female film and television directors. - Gothicfilm (talk) 02:30, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Seems reasonable, I support the merger.--Cattus talk 16:46, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
Yes agreed, I support merger as well, though actually I think it ought to be merged again back with List of film and television directors since there really isn't a need to differentiate between male and female..Thelen Shar (talk) 09:43, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
I support a merger, too, provided that the final version attaches the country of origin to each name and not one name is lost in the process. And I definitely think there is a need for a FEMALE DIRECTORS list, because it helps raise the visibility of the accomplishments of women in an industry where they do not yet have parity with men, meeting the notability/worthiness requirement. But for simplicity's sake I do think there should be just one list and that it should be titled List of female film and television directors. Tallgrassweeds (talk) 10:47, 5, January, 2015 (UTC)

Reckless deletion of names

The following 9 names were deleted from the list on 11 May 2019: @ 15:38, @ 17:27, @ 17:32, @ 17:33. These edits were careless and incorrect. All of them have directed films. It doesn't matter if a person's directorial history is just one film -- she still directed a film (some are award-winning). And it doesn't matter if the subject of the films directed is pornography. If a woman directed a film ... her name rightfully belongs in this list. Many biographical articles about people with a history in film and television are not well written, and many also do not include filmography tables, but relevant information about them will be contained in citations and external links. It should come without saying that it is the responsibility of editors to double-check sources regarding an individual before making assumptions about a qualification (and if you find that a biography is missing information ... for goddess' sake, redirect your energy towards adding the info and improving the article).
